You guys pointing out what a douchebag I've been over the fact that black metal isn't Norwegian bred has made me realize that I was being an asshole without realizing it, sorry about that. I can't help it, I just rub most people the wrong way without realizing it.

I just wanted to make a point about the fact that Black Metal isn't exclusive to Norway, and there were similar scenes happening around the world around the same time. But I suppose since the Norwegian scene is the most popular, that's where most modern BM bands will get their influences from. No arguing there.

If you like the heavier brand of Doom at all, Yearning are a fantastic band to check out.

Idio mentioned them way back and I've loved them ever since.

I never listened to ZZ Top, but Keelhaul's cover of Just Got Paid is good.

Speaking of which, anyone here who likes metal should check out Keelhaul. You guys like metal, right? Then check them out.

How 'bout Yob? very good sludge.

and wait a minute. You mean to tell me you don't listen to Yes? As someone who likes prog rock, you ought to give them a listen. Fragile is a fantastic album.

or some good Japanese composers such as Yoko Kanno and Yuji Ohno. And if you dig instrumental hip hop with jazz influence (and samples) Yesterday's New Quintet is very good chill shit. I have the album Angels Without Edges. It's pretty much Madlib under a different name, but hey, It's another "Y"!

And yeah, Yearning is good doom metal.

Oh yeah, and Z.

Zoroaster and Zebulon Pike are both good sludge bands, and Zemial is pretty good black metal. Zandelle is decent power metal.

I'd just like to say, that there's a huge difference considering black metal is often connected to norway.

Every country of importance has produced a fair number of death metal bands.

Fuck, even Poland has popped out Vader and Decapitated.

Metal Hell isn't the be-all end all of metal, and neither is Metal-Archives.

This. They're my only Y (thats Metal).

My only Z is Zaius, they'll be Doom of some sort but I've not listened to them.

As far as I'm concerned, this has nothing to do with your knowledge of metal. You're just being a cock.

He his right about this part. It's true that regulars of the Metal Hell are acting like they know everything about Metal. He is not the first one to point this out. This is why we are still a bunch of elitists.

The guy is not dumb. He prooved that he knows some stuff about metal. His interpretations may not fit the typical views of the Metal Hell, but as I said before... we need to stop acting like if our opinions are indisputable truths and open our minds to new intepretations. We should also show more respect for our newest users.

I'm not saying that he was right or wrong, but we really are threating new users like shit here. I guess it's true that he has misinterpreted some of Bruce's posts... but we are still going too hard on him.

Em... I've also read some stuff against Death Metal on this page... makes me sad... Death Metal is pure win :)

Yes, Iron Maiden fanboys are annoying in general. Dimebag fanboys are also pretty annoying..Kai Hansen fanboys, good thing he's not that famous. But still, every band has it's fanboys.

Mägo de Oz

Never seen anybody discussing their stuff in here and that's sad. All their lyrics are in Spanish, but it's amongs the greatest folk bands out there. Their music if pure epic fucking win. The album Finisterra which is in two parts is awesome from the very beginning of the album and will kick you ass until the end of the last song of the album that is a 15 minutes long track with various riffs and melodies from other songs they wrote in a big medley. I really think you guys should check them out.
I guess you guys can do the researches by yourself on Metal Archives and YouTube, but if you need any guidelines on what you should check first by them, just ask me :)

I would get some Yes albums myself but the problem is that my dad already has a few of them and it's best for all the CDs by one artist to be in one place and not two.

You know what really bugs me about Pantera fans?

Dimebag wasn't even that good. He was great, yeah, but he didn't really pioneer anything like some other Metal guitarists did. Any death is a tragedy, and the death of a well-respected musician in particular, but some of Pantera's fans make him out to be some kind of god.

I don't think any band can be unique, every known band has a band that is influenced by it (if not, a band that copies the band)

That's a pretty pessimistic way of looking at band styles. I can name at least two dozen bands off the top of my head with a unique sound that they would be immediately identifiable for.
