Yep... but before I used the Archives I used BNR, and I still do, because it ahs quite a few bands that the archives dont. Metal storm is a great addition to my list. THe Archives I will always be the best though

God im so pissed tho, i got my friend into music pretty much, i gave him some nu metal (to ease him into REAL metal pretty much) but now after like 6 months of nu metal, he thinks he knows everything about metal. He also thinks bands like mudvayne, slipknot and the latest album by metallica is better than real metal. For example he called anaal nathrakh shit after listening to exactly 5 seconds of it. Fuck hes an arrogant prick. He also thinks hes a GREAT guitarist after just 5 lessons.
Anyway thats my rant for the day.

You have two options: One, you could have got him striaght into black metal with a band like Borknagar, Mayhem, or Burzum. Two, you can still turn him with death metal, then you can get him into black metal.

There are not many metalheads I know that are bigger ones than me... and I doubt your friend knows shit... as for him being a "great" guitarist... it took me over a year to get as good as I am now... adn I still ahve a LONG way nto go...

As far as I'm concerned... Nu-Metal... its even a subgenre of metal anymore... it is its own genre now taht it has so many sub genres like Alternative Metal, Rap Metal, Mallcore.... I can go on and on... I have been listening to Metal for YEARS and Nu-Metal for even LONGER. He dosn't know a FRACTION of what I know, and I still don't have many bands In my collection.

I think I've heard of Apocalyptica, but not actually heard them.
I kinda like Anaal Nathrakh (dl'ed LEGALLY) a few of thier songs, but I find their cds fucking hard to find. Nobody in any local stores even knows about them, much less have thier cd. can't buy of the net either, don't have a credit card. Sucks...

I have a friend just like that, just try discussing TRUE metal and get him to shut the fuck up, I dunno about yours, but mine was a stubborn little piece of shit that kept saying the same thing over and over again.. not only that, but since he listened to Shitknot, he started saying everywhere that he was satanic (yes that's right, because he listened to SLIPKNOT)... anyway, these are friggin posers who just want to use anything as a trend to get attention, so fuck them

The only ones I have heard of are Kreator and Destruction... and the only german thrash album i have is Metal Discharge by Destruction... I REALLY need to expand my Thrash collection.

Thanks, I shall check em out. In the meanwhile, you should check out Dawn of Dreams, if you haven't already. They are melodic death/black that doesn't sound like Dissection OR shitty Gothenburg bands. They sound like the good parts in COF songs, with grunts and rasps and no keyboards. They're awesome.

the closest thing i have to avante garde is Borknagar (Empiricism and Epic) and it's pretty avante-garde.

If you want some good songs, check out band's websites. I could be wrong, but I haven't heard of anyone on here distributing music through anything, and you kinda shouldn't anyway.
Seriously though, most of the more uncommon bands have free MP3s or other stuff to download that is perfectly legal.
