So I listened to this band right, they're called Threat Signal.
It's funny you say it's typical. Can't say I've ever heard anything like what they do anywhere else. And I think I know more about the melodeath-metalcore scene.
When you listen to something, you really have to go for the ensemble, not just break the complexe sounds to single parts. What makes Threat Signal is that everything blends perfectly together and that they know how to bring it to the fucking table. And dude, you gotta have some parts of your music that reflects the genre you play. So even these bands you like have typical "whatever the genre is" riffs and chord progressions.
Plus, these guys have thrash metal influences, so calling them just emo and core is not enough to describe their sound.
And last thing, they are one of the rare bands to do nice breakdowns. They are pretty much one of the only reasons why I didn't give up on core... Cause seriously... the bands who played before them...
A Dead Motion
Chainsaw Armageddon
Mass Murder Messiah (this band was kind of good)
Everything After Zero (that was pretty cool. You guys are gonna say they are core shit, but they still sound nice to me)

That's just two girls listening to that band. It doesn't mean the same thing will happen to a thousand other new metal fans while the majority who are getting into metal are more likely to enjoy Metallica (the good stuff, of course) and Iron Maiden than Agalloch.
You still know what I mean. You have more chances finding real metal fans if you do not go for the most commercial bands all the time. What will most likely happen is that these kids will stick to one of these bands, let's say Maiden... become shitty fanboys and never go for anything else. I know a lot of people who are just like that. But since I've been introducing my favorite bands to my friends, they have learned a lot more about metal than what the usual 4 or 5 bands we always list did. Plus, if these people you talk to were really interrested into metal, they would already know about Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeth...
