Bloodbath is awesome.

Any of you guys ever heard of Pombagira? They're a local doom band I saw last year opening for Wolves in the Throne Room. Fucking awesome.

Hey guys :3

How's everyone doing? I haven't been here in a while, so fucking busy with tennis and video games. Anyway, I started buying my music finally. I feel like a man now, but it's getting really expensive.

Also, one of my dumbass friends keeps telling me how nu metal and metalcore are real metal, which I keep telling him is not true. I can't really explain myself that well though, can you guys tell me how to explain it?

Your best is probably to show him REAL metal bands instead, or alternately, just not to talkmetal with him at all. Second option would probably work best, mainstream metal fans can't take anything more complex than say... Limp Bizkit.

Just tell him to listen to Kings of Metal by Manowar.

If he still disagrees tell him 'just 'cause'.

Can't you put, you know, a good album by Edguy?

I think that each and every single song on this album has something interresting.
I hate it when you act like that... and you do this anytime we talk about Power Metal.

Not only that, but that album is entirely consistent of a more traditional metal style instead of power metal.

It is power metal...
It has the guitar riffs of power metal, the lead guitar solos of power metal, the vocals of power metal, even the drums screams: "power metal"

Some researching on instrumental only metal bands lead me to an extremely obscure band from Guatemala (I've never heard of this country myself) called Else. Only have one EP but so far so good. I may have to look into obscure bands more often if I can find such gems.

Maybe so but that's where the term Epic Doom Metal came from and it's exactly what it says on the tin.

Depends on what kind of DM you want, but for now, try Entombed. Fantastic Swedeath band.

Try that, and tell me what you think of it. If you like, I might be able to give you more.

same band, just nihilist has shittier quality.

Either way, Gorguts, Deicide (old stuff), Abhorer, Death and Necrovore are best when it comes to Old stuff.

I know Nihilist is the pre-Entombed band, and production doesn't bother me. If production bothers you and you like DM, then that's laughable. Plus, OSDM is wide and varied. You can't sum up all of it just by naming a few bands.

Abhorrence's self titled EP kicks ass. I've been listening to that every time I feel like some death metal for months now.

Yes but I'm talking about really unknown stuff here and I sure hope I get more luck with these kind of bands, especially when the band themselves offer stuff for free since I'll easily take them for granted.

I haven't gotten to listen much of the classics, but if you consider the 1990's also "old school", one of those that I could think of is Dying Fetus.

You guys listed all the old school death metal bands that come to mind, all but one - FUCKING VADER.

But yeah, that's basically all of them.

Immolation and Selptura are death metal too though aren't they? I've heard they are, never gotten around to listening to either though.

This is true, every track IS interesting in some way.

Except Mysteria, which sucks cock.

It IS a good album, HOWEVER saying this album is hardly power metal.

I mean COME ON - Wikipedia, metal archives and myself, a tremendous powerfag, all view the album as heavy/traditional metal and not power metal.

The only songs that are close to power metal on the album is that epic balad which I forgot the name of and Navigator.

Everyone needs to stop saying Hellfire Club is amazing.

Edguy's albums from best to least best:

1.) Rocket Ride - AMAZING
2.) Vain Glory Opera - AMAZING
3.) Theater Of Salvation - AMAZING
4.) Hellfire Club - Really good, but not as good as everyone says
5.) Tinnitus Sanctus - Kinda boring but still good.
6.) Mandrake - REALLY boring and just plain shittie.

I still need to get Kingdom Of Madness and The Savage Poetry so that's why they're not included in that list.

Anyway I went to see Razormaze, Hatchet, Witchaven, Vulcan, Powerstance and Lich King on friday at a warehouse called Unit 11.

Tickets were 8 bucks and there were maybe 200 people there at most, but it was fucking sick.

Nearly everyone was either drunk, stoned or both.

It was intense.

Anybody here like Incantation? All of my friends say Immolation is better, for some reason. Never cared much for Immolation, though. Yes, I admit that I haven't given them much of a chance either, but I don't think that matters.

Both are very good, really. I usually don't like to put one band over another when they're that close, but I think i'll start listening to Incantation now. Thanks man.

I always thought Power Metal and Heavy/Traditional Metal had a lot in common. Maybe this album sounds more like Heavy, but I still don't think it's a random album that just pops out of Edguy's discography as being a "totally different" genre of music they played on this album.

The only songs that are close to power metal on the album is that epic balad which I forgot the name of and Navigator.

This is kind of funny though, cause I really thought that The Navigator was very Iron Maiden-ish.

I like it better then Rocket Ride, but I think Theater Of Salvation is just as good as Hellfire Club.
Can't believe you are saying Mandrake is bad.

Kingdom Of Madness is puke, believe we. Except for like two songs...
When A Hero Cries and em... can't remember the other one.
