So I just decided I'm going to cover Master's Apprentices by Opeth. I just love that song so much.
Ok, I've heard the band Gonin-Ish tossed around a bit here, but I can't seem to find ANY of their stuff, legally or illegally. Any ideas where I can get an album? Or two? Or all of them? I really liked what I heard on their MySpace page, so I want to get at least an album or two.

Heyah boys!
I'm listenning to Kill Em' All right now. And even if Metallica are getting dissed all the time in the Hell... I think these guys were just great back then. This album, is one of the best Thrash Metal albums along with Rust In Peace.

Even though i'm growing to like 80's Metallica I REALLY just have trouble thinking of the idea that they, or even megadeth, have the best thrash metal albums.
For one, Metallica isn't very thrashie - they're slightly more brutal than evile, which is the least thrashie thrash metal band ever.
For another, that's totally shitting on all the thrash metal bands of the 80's and early 90's who didn't become successful.
Megadeth!!!! all the way....... no questions asked.
and plenty of favor metal songs!

Yeah, well, Megadeth did make some of the best thrash metal albums ever.

I don't care what others say, I'll always appreciate Metallica for their first four albums. There are some damn good stuff there!
I like early Metallica but they have become redundant to me for some reason, just like Iron Maiden. Ironically though i am listening to Metallica right now for the first time in quite a long while.
Do you guys know, Pensées Nocturnes? They're french and they play Neoclassical Black Metal, I just downloaded their new album, and I think it's awesome. Me as Metal fan but also Classical music fan, love it.

Seriously, have any of you heard "Rise" from VDOP? It's fucking insane.
I have to admit. "Rise" isn't really a bad song. Parts of that song were also used for one of the DOOM game tracks.
ANYWAY, who here knows of any good thrash bands recording now?
I've been browsing MySpace Music for hours now and I'm not finding anything good.
I heard that Byzantine is back. I just don't know if they're recording now however.

I really need to check out some more french black metal. Can't say why, but they fucking kick ass !!!

I own the album, it's way better than there second one.
It's good just not really thrashie at all except solos and the lyrics.
We Who Are About To Die is there best song, BY FAR.
Saying Metallica aren't Thrashie is fucking ridiculous, retarded even, given that they're one of the pioneers of the genre and definitely the most famous and influencial.
There isn't even a parallel universe in which Metallica are not Thrash. Thats how Thrash they are.
Metallica only release 3 albums too, by the way. Anything after Cliff died doesn't count.

I was going to do the same, but I can't play bass/drums/vocals and whatnot, and I don't want to cover it with the original song playing in the back. A full band cover would be awesome.
Also on this note of Metallica, I'll always appreciate them through all their albums, no matter how 'un-metal' that may be of me. They're a fucking good band, through their thrash days, the heavy days, the blues/rock days, the nu-metal days and the 'we made one song (Death Is Not The End) and divided it up amongst a whole album' days.

Some of us should do a full band cover of a Mayhem song. Preferably Freezing Moon.
I call Vocals.

It doesn't change the fact they're the tamest 'thrash' metal band from the 80's.
Unless of course you count speed metal, which was basically just power metal from the 80's.
and influencial.
False.
Hardly any thrash metal(or death metal, which was really just evolved thrash at the time) in the 80's was truly influenced by metallica.
Maybe you guys already know about this, but The Metal Hell is the thread with the greatest amount of pages in the C&C.
Damn! We are awesome !!!!

No, there's a signature thread with like 100K pages.
Or something. :P
What's everyone's thoughts on the new High on Fire album; Snakes for the Divine?
I've had a few listens though now and I'm really loving it.
cbf to check if this discussion has been done.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

Agreed. I really like the riff from the title track. Actually, I like all of the riffs. Hell, I like the whole damn album.

Precisely, the Doom track based on Rise is a good enough reason for Rise to be good.

Man, I keep hearing about this album and I'm not familiar with High on Fire. How much am I missing out on here?

I don't know how you can be the judge of whats tame and whats not. Metallica's sound is Metallica's sound, doesn't mean they're not aggressive.
Maybe we should ask Bill who actually went to an early Metallica gig.
BBIIIILLLLLLLLLLL!?
False.

Well Megadeth have been copying Metallica since forever, seriously, there is a pattern there. Look at the good albums, the great albums and the shitty albums. They're pretty much a mirror image of each other.
But anyway, since the 80s nearly everyone who has got into Metal has been into Metallica.

That's because Dave Mustaine claimed to have written most of the material in the earlier albums, before he left Metallica

They have their own sound, it's not generic, like some people view Maiden's, but influences from there include people trying to copy Hetfield's voice (it's been done a lot) and trying to drum like Lars Ulrich should be able to.
