Oh yea forgot to mention.
Saw Devin Townsend last night, was pretty much the best thing ever.
The Pre-Show music was 'Ziltoid Radio 93.5FM' which consisted of Vengaboys and Aqua + other stuff like it. Was hilarious.
Devin is one of he most entertaining guys I've seen live and for a 2 hour set it was just brilliant.

I love it when venues play stupid radio music before gigs, it makes it all seem so much more brutal when the band comes on :P
Also, just an observation, it seems that to be a thrash band, you MUST have at least one song across your career that involves mutation, war, or toxic waste.

it's a genre in-joke, obviously

Extra points for having all three in once song.

I'm hardly familiar with modern thrash bands. :|

Metal-Archives means jack shit. They'll lash out at almost anything they desire. There are far more reliable metal reviews out there. I should try and review metal albums more often and try and be one of the better and least douchey members of Metal-Archives. I'm sure it's possible, I just need to persevere.

I only need to mention just the one particular band.
Candlemass
That's the one!
So Dimmu Borgir is supposed to have a new album coming out this year. Wonder if it will be worth listening to without Mustis and Vortex in it.
I! AM! IIIIIIIIIROOOOOOOOOOOOOOON MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

I hate MA reviews because they don't review albums on their individual merit, they rank them based on how true the band remains to their original style. And if a band isn't considered "true" to begin with, like The Sword or something, then they're fucked.

Yeah, just like Bring Me The Horizon... Oh wait! They are not true, forget about what I just said.

So my writing class has assigned an incredibly metal assignment!
1.) Pick a 2 - 3 minute long segment out of any song we want as long it is:
A.) Swear-free
B.) has nothing blatantly to do with religion
C.) Not sexist or any of that shit
D.) The song segment has a definite mood.
2.) Play the song segment to our class, record how it makes everyone feel emotionally.
3.) Write a short essay as to why I think everyone felt the way they did based off said song segment.
There are NO limits at all when it comes to genre and whatnot as long as it follows the rules I just menitoned.
WHAT THE FUCK SHOULD I USE? I NEED SOME IDEAS! :D

Some song by Opeth. Do a song like Demon of the Fall or The Amen Corner. Haha, that's pretty cool that your teacher is letting you do that though.

I'm going to see him this summer at a metal festival. He actually performs 2 times, on the other time he's going to perform Ziltoid the omniscient in its entirety and it will be recorded. Too bad i'm not going to be seeing that show, just the regular set.

This is the problem with MA. There is a huge bias at times and it ruins the average rating of what the site thinks. That's why they're the last place I rely on when it comes to recommendations.

I would have said that but I felt I was being too generic, even if Megadeth are the best.

Aren't you the biggest power metal fan here? Surely you can find a power metal song to use that follows all those rules.
Megadeth have released better albums, let alone other bands.
But Rust in Peace, man! Rust in fucking Peace!

Most of their songs break the time limit rule.

Yeah, it fits like 97% of all power metal bands.
BUT since the sky is the limit when it comes to vocals and instrumental(As the lyrics are the only thing that could prevent me from using a song) I wanna do something wicked brutal and/or evil.
But Rust in Peace, man! Rust in fucking Peace!
Touche.

Well I could do a 2:00 - 3:30 segment from an opeth song, but since opeth have so many great segments in so many songs it would be near impossible for me to chose.

Yeah, that's the same problem I would have if I had to do that. If you do manage to pick an Opeth song though, try and include a part where it transitions from soft pretty acoustic to heavy growls. Like in The Amen Corner from 3:20 to 6:20 or something.

Lol no.
I heard that they were grindcore? Or are there multiple Dystopia's? Or am I just crazy?
You heard they were Grindcore despite my constant hollering about them whenever Sludge or Doom is mentioned?
They're Sludge/Crust Punk apparently. I just call them Sludge.

Porcelain Heart. Depressing song is depressing.
The Grand Conjuration. Soft whispery vocals transitioning to heavy growls, almost scared me the first time I listened to it.
Ghost of Perdition. Soft to hard parts.
Something from damnation. All those songs are emotional.
Isolation Years. Awesomeness.
Benighted.
Coil.
Speaking of Opeth, The throat of winter.
Just listened to Non Opus Dei. They're pretty awesome avante garde black metal.

List above and Mayhem for sure.
By the way, I do seriously hope that Corey Taylor gets cancer.
Yep.

Since it's really the only black metal that I know, I'll give you some black/folk metal suggestions.
Arafel is really good in my opinion, just the vocals are too black metal shrieky. Instrumentals are great though.
Klabautamann is really good too, my friend just showed me one of their songs on youtube and I was hooked. Their album Der Ort is their best in my opinion.
Melechesh is some good Middle Eastern folk/black metal also.
That's all I can think of for now.
What is you favourite Metal subgenre?
I would say mine is Melodic Black Metal, and it's even better if it has gothic influences like Beyond the Dream.
