Well hey, one bad apple ruins the bunch. Especially if they're saying that Metallica is heavy metal.

You can't say they are straight down Thrash Metal.
And you are the one talking about bad apples here. These guys may like or dislike Slipknot but still consider them Metal. I don't like some metal that I can still consider as part of the metal universe. These guys just have a different conception of what Metal is.

But they are... well, were. There's a reason they were the biggest band of the Big 4 of thrash (the reason was that they were thrash).

I was just making a joke, I don't want to get into another bullshit argument about the subjectivity of the term "metal" and how we all need to accept that some people think metalcore and nu-metal is metal and some of us don't, because those arguments don't do anything.

Megadeth also were one of the Big 4 of thrash, still, they did play some Heavy Metal stuff...

Again, thrash. And again, like Metallica, they stopped playing straight-up thrash after thrash was big. I prefer to always think of them as thrash bands who happened to make some other stuff, which may have been alright (megadave) or musical abortions (metallica).

i forgot to mention that i don't really consider a band's genre to be the summary of all the genres they've played. i usually classify bands based on what each album is. i dunno, i'm tired, i'm gonna sleep.

Last.fm trolls are so terrible. It's annoying as fuck because they think they're hilarious.

Not bad from what I've heard. I'll be sure to check him out sometime but that could be a while. Right now, I'm aiming to finish off a few artists with getting all their albums like Judas Priest and Manowar. Then I have a few other artists who I've been meaning to get one of their albums for a while now.

At 3/13/10 09:09 AM, Zodir wrote: Which is heavier, black metal or death metal?

Does it matter which is heavier? As long as it sounds good, I could care less about how heavy it is, hence why I can enjoy metal bands that are considered to be the "least heaviest".

You know, I don't even have two of the same albums and if there's going to be any albums I'll re-buy, it's some of Judas Priest to finish off the remaster collection and Blind Guardian's first two albums for the demo tracks. However, I'm sure I can get the demos elsewhere.

Not entirely crap but you know to be cautious about what they say. I'm still weary about what Metal-Archives say at times after accepting Trivium when bands which are clearly more metal than them such as Uriah Heep and The Black Mages are rejected.

I'm sorry dude... but to a lot of people, Nu-Metal is a form of metal. Can't say I could blame them... just look at the name...

So...What have you learned from the metal community?

You won't see knights and wizards in DT's lyrics and album covers. Plus, I said that sometimes Heavy and Power Metal are confused with each others.

Actually, you might want to take a look at In the Presence of Enemies.

It's reasons like this why I stay far away as possible from the community. It's an embarrassment to humanity. I'd say they're as bad as YouTube. All I do on Last.fm these days is look at my charts and see how my friends are on there.

I have not heard of Demolition Hammer or Paradox before, but Artillery is amazing. Should I check the other two out if I like Artillery, or they different styles?

Similar, not too similar though.

Still amazing though.

Also why the fuck are you guys saying Evile? They're nothing compared to some other modern day thrash metal bands.

Like seriously.

I know Im going to get shunned for this but, I think the Twisted Sister cover of Burn In Hell by Dimmu Borgir is better than the original. I expect to be lynched for this. :3

I'm assuming stoner doom is okay. This isn't a list of the most influential, it's just my three favorite doom bands.

Electric Wizard, Sleep, Kyuss/OM (i couldn't decide)
