I liked ObZen. Messhugah is quite a strange band, but they have many interesting sounds. I still have Chaosphere, which I listen to frequently.

Im prettty sure Mayhem IS the first wave of black metal. I mean they are the first black metal band to exsist. Venom and king diamond were the influence to black metal.

Yeah, I think there has to be certain levels of a genre. Mayhem is a really... evil band. After listening to most of their albums I really don't think they could be the first.
