So am I the only one who listens to Old-school death metal? I haven't heard you guys talk much about any of them, Morbid angel, Deicide, Massacre, Obituary.

Do us a favor and do not spam or troll. This is Metal Hell, not a stoner club.

Obituary and Necrophobic are playing Bonecrusher Fest next friday, should be interesting as I haven't seen a death metal band live before.
I'm there for The Black Dahlia Murder though :D I really hope I get to meet the guys, Trevor and Shannon especially

Right now, I only have their first two albums but I will eventually get the rest of their albums going up to Clayman. I really like The Jester Race and Lunar Strain is alright.

What kind of name is iwrestledabearonce?

I'm sure Obituary get mentioned quite often in here. Morbid Angel too.
And I listen to Death and Carcass. Not much else beside that.

Do not preach to regulars of this club. We will talk shit all we want.
Also, you're list was shitty, more than likely you'll be deemed unwelcome here :). I recommend the Nu-Metal/Metalcore Club.

I do too. Tastes Like Kevin Bacon is a great song. But thats irrelevant.

A silly, pretencious one :P.
They're basically what happens if you mix terrible Deathcore with Wayne's World.

You forgot the best Death Metal band and also one of the very originals, Death. Death comes before any of those bands.

Oh sorry, I'm kind of new. I've only been here for two or three years, so I'm not really familiar with how things are run around here. Are you a mod or something?
At any rate, it's relevant to metal because stoner metal is my favorite genre of metal. I didn't get to listen to any when I was high, though, but I swear that one day I will.

Believe it or not, Amon Amarth is not Viking metal. They're melodic death metal, but they just talk about vikings.
Either way, yep. Some of their tracks are just awesome, and a lot of them are just orgasmic. Still Insomnium is better.

Viking Metal isn't even a real genre.

Insomnium>>>All other Melodic Death Metal bands.

More of a Pagan Metal to me.
At 1/31/10 02:36 PM, smeagol1 wrote: More of a Pagan Metal to me.
That's even more stupid.
The only band that could get away with calling themselves that would be Spinal Tap.
Viking metal is dumb, 'cause it doesn't even describe a specific sound or style. Viking metal is literally just metal with lyrics about vikings. Since many of these bands are also folk metal, people confuse folk metal for viking metal and aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Also, pagan metal is even more dumb, 'cause it's like a wannabe viking metal name that's also dumb and shitty. Just call it folk metal and be done with it. If the name doesn't help describe a specific sound, then it's useless.
No genre is more retarded than "Fantasy Metal"
Seriously, if you knew anything about metal lyrics at all you would know that this would describe basically nearly every metal band in existence.
Flower Metal however, is perfectly fine for Sonata Arctica.

How come Sonata Arctica is such a hit or miss band?
It seems like every metal fan either loves them or think they are douchebags.'

Nah, it wasn't sarcasm. I'm honestly wondering; every page has like three zings from you, and I wanna know if you ever get tired of it.
Well I don't care if Amon Amarth is Viking metal or not. Personally I find it easier to say Viking metal than Melodic death metal. That, and Vikings are bad-ass.
But I don't really get how people think that Death metal vocalists lose their voice just like that. Someone was telling me that the singer for AA " must have been really dedicated to destroy his voice like that ". If you growl the wrong way then yeah, you could fuck up your voice but it's not like those people tlak like that every day of their life.

Oh, well no. Just the way I am man :).
At 1/29/10 11:21 AM, Oppugnant wrote: I think the closest thing to Progressive Black Metal that doesnt stray too far from being "tr00" would be Atmospheric Black Metal.
Yeah, that. Atmospheric black isn't exactly progressive. But bands like Wolves In The Throne Room are far more progressive than, let's say, Mayhem.
At 1/29/10 11:24 AM, ZpLiNtEh wrote:
Well melodic death metal with lyrics revolving around Norse mythology :p
but yea I just call them viking metal, it's a wee bit easier to say :)
I don't. A lot of people tend to classify bands by their lyrical themes, but I think that you got to listen to the music first and then the lyrics. So if you have black metal bands like Xasthur and that they write very depressive lyrics, than you can call them Depressive or Suicidal (I like Depressive better) Black Metal. But they will still be Black Metal before being Depressive Metal.
If you want to call Amon Amarth, Viking Metal, you should still say they are Melodic Death Viking Metal.
But that would still sound horrible...
Saying a band is Viking Metal is kind of random...
What do you learn about the genre when you read "viking" ???
Nothing... right...
It's just like when the kids say Ensiferum are Folk Metal...
it just kills me...
Ensiferum are clearly Melodic Death Metal (some douche bags would say Power Metal :P) and absolutely not Folk...
For me, there are like 2 genres of Folk.
The Ulver kind of Folk
and the Equilibrium kind of Folk. One being more Traditionnal Folk sounding and one sounding more epic.
But Ensiferum... Folk? Not really.
So em... no... Amon Amarth still are Melodic Death Metal to me...

Iwrestledabaronce ?!? These guys are not fucking metal at all, they are straight down fucking deathcore. PLUS, it's not cause you play some circus music in the middle of your track that you become avant-garde or experimental...
In fact, it just makes you sound wannabe...

No matter how much I hate Denta... I think you just don't have any kind of right to tell a regular what he should and what he shouldn't do here.
Also... when did you make your list of ten bands to be admitted in the Metal Hell?
So please, make your 10 bands list, and then we will be able to tell you that you are not welcome here :)

I've recently listened to Behemoth's Grom album a lot. I really enjoyed it, but almost very review I've seen for it is negative. Am I just crazy?

No,you intitled to your opinon about an album or band.
At 1/31/10 05:42 PM, Zodir wrote: I've recently listened to Behemoth's Grom album a lot. I really enjoyed it, but almost very review I've seen for it is negative. Am I just crazy?
Well, reviews from Metal-Archives on this album are not all Negative. From what I've seen, some people gave it very good ratings. Sometimes when a band release an album that doesn't fit the genre of their previous work they get lower ratings from their long-time fans because they don't like to see the band changing the genre they first liked them for.
If you take the example of Cryptopsy's The Unspoken King, you have the greatest proof of what I just said. I wouldn't say Behemoth have taken their style so far away from their roots that they would have stopped playing Metal, though. Cryptopsy is an extreme example.
The Unspoken King is not an horrible Deathcore album though. It is pretty good for the genre, but as nothing to do with the Cryptopsy of 1996.
If a completely different band would have started their career with the release of The Unspoken King, nothing would have been the same. Musicians starting as a Technical Death Metal band that would evolve in some kind of deathcore band would obviously get stoned thrown at them by the Metal community because they once were a death metal band.
But a band that would have started as deathcore, even if they are not really liked amongs metalheads communities, wouldn't get as much attention.
We could just say that... you will always hate a traitor more than an enemy.
