Checked out Arsis's music video for their upcoming feb. album.

It fucking sucked, I hope they don't play too much off the new album when I see them with Arch Enemy and Exodus this weekend.

I know, reading that made me want to cry.

Speaking of Dragonforce though, I hate Valley of the damned.

Ultra Beatdown, Sonic Firestorm and Inhuman Rampage were all good(But not anywhere near great) but valley of the damned is just...ugh.

Second of, I would like to know which of Katatonia albums are your favorite? I'll take anyone's opinion :)
I like Origin because you brought them to my attention. You're alright, Duffeh.

Well, you brought Agalloch to my attention, that's definitely a plus, considering they are my favorite band now.

Discouraged Ones. I like The Great Cold Distance too, that takes my second.

I've read things about The Great Cold Distance and Brave Murder Day being their best twos. Are they really worht buying?

Yeah, they're great guys. Also, very related, I just had sex (seriously like 20 minutes ago) to Sonic Firestorm, best sex ever. And I've fucked to Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, much better bands.

Again, my sex albums are Images And Words, If These Trees Could Talk, Perdition City and An Ancient Muse (Dream Theater, If These Trees Could Talk, Ulver, Loreena McKennit)

Time to get stoned brothers.

Thinking about doing so, cause I just ordered Dopethrone !!!

Brothers, tell me about your wimenz. I know Smeagol fucks some black chick or something.

lol

Em, my girlfriend is 18. She is really into visul arts like painting, drawing and photo. She's stuying arts right now. She was not really into metal before we first met, but she already liked bands like Megadeth. But now, spending more time with me, she got into Agalloch, Ulver, Blotted Science, If These Trees Could Talk, The Morningside, Sonata Arctica and a few more. It's pretty nice going out with someone who's really into arts, because we learn a lot from each others. I go to museums with her and she comes with me to concerts. We have seen a few very good plays also and like watching movies together. Very intelligent girl, we've been together for a year and a half now.

I won't deny the fact that they know how to play their instruments but I still don't like the band.

Personally i like Trivium, especially the latest album Shogun.
The only thing i don't like about them is Matt Heafys lame growling, but they had one song where it didn't sound as bad.
Also they are doing a song for the God of War III metal album that is coming out.. Which is cool.

What is speed metal? I always thought it was just another name for thrash metal, but from further research, it seems to be a seperate genre. Also, what are some speed metal bands? The only one I found was Agent Steel. Any others?

Bergtatt is still my favorite. But Nattens Madrigal is also really worth the listenning. After you get used to the ear-raping over-boosted trebble sound you will actually get to understand the music better and begin to like it. Perdition City is quite good two. I would like to ear more of them. Even if I do listen to 4 of their albums, I know there is more stuff made by Ulver that I should check out. Perdition City is amazing! Everything on this album is pure awesome ambient music.

Speed metal? I've heard this lame classification a few times... and I think it sucks...
What would it be anyway? Metal played very fast? There is already a name to this and it's Technical Death Metal. A lot of other metal genres are played with very fast tempo. So speed metal as a genre just shouldn't exist.
From what I understand... those who do use the speed metal classification use it for some kind of music that would be a fusion between thrash metal and power metal...
I've heard people call GammaRay speed metal...
On wikipedia they say it's a mix of hardcore punk and NWOBHM... guess that would make more sense..
I still think it's a lame genre name...

Speed Metal is the genre in between thrash metal and power metal.

It's not really used anymore, but it could be used to describe the power metal from the 80's like earliest helloween with kai on vocals, blind guardian, Stratovarius, Iced Earth and the like.

But as power metal became more melodic and thrash metal became more brutal, most bands stuck to just one genre.

Basically, it's a dead genre.

And people that label dragonforce speed metal, are idiots.

I would like to play the other two beforehand and while it would be nice to get the EP, what makes me reluctant to get it are the two artists I don't like and one I don't even recognise. However, Opeth and Dream Theater? Hell yes!

I've doubted the term speed metal several times in the past. Whatever I heard was considered speed metal were mostly power and thrash bands. To me, the genre is rather redundant.

Speed Metal is things like Racer X and Cacophony.
It's really just Traditional Metal thats faster, but not in a way Punky enough to be Thrash.

I think its legitimate.

Ermm... kinda.
I thought Cacophony were actually quite cacophonous. Poor production and immense shredding doesn't go well together. But a guitar duo of Marty Friedman and Jason Becker is pretty awe inspiring. At a better quality than Limewire I imagine they're a lot better, but I wasn't that impressed.

Racer X are good if you like you're classicy Rock riffs and sweet shredding again. But Scarified is easily the best shred song ever.

Practically, I haven't been too far away, but I feel as if there's so much going on around me...I do many things but don't have much time for most of them - that's probably the most accurate description ^^

I have bought myself an electronic drumkit a few months ago and I love it to death - seems like I'm a fast learner too. Just bought an additional cymbal by Roland...gotta install it now.

Lots of work to do in my job, friends and girlfriend, studying for my summative assessment.....

Anyway, I have a little time on my hands so I thought "why not checking Metal Hell again?". It surely has been awhile.

What have you been up to?
