Oh, Indeed. Drakkar is my favorite out of all of them. I'm about to add Blind Guardian and Stratovarius to my collection.

That would be a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good choice indeed!
Also add Kamelot and Symphony X.

Not me. I hate it, actually.

Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth is a good one. Or something like Dying Chant by Insomnium, any melodic death metal song would be fitting for that matter.

That's awesome man, what's the name of it? I love Behemoth, they're my favorite blackened death metal band.
Rather than one song im gonna make a disc so when i go play airsoft with my light machine gun. Me against the world well my freinds with snipers because there main auto broke.
So far I have
Dark Fortress-No Longer Human
Naglfar-Plutonium Reveries
If I have to die in battle I want to die like a uber beefy game boss. Specifically General Raam from Gears Of War. Go out guns blazeing well massive troika. I die in battle gloriously and is sent to hall up high.

What do people that people that hate power metal use as reasoning to hate power metal?
That it's too cheesy? Personally, most metal bands(power or not) are cheesy regardless soooo.

Don't really care about the cheesiness, I just never saw any emotion or energy in it. It's just not brutal enough at all.

Well that's all metal really.

You've apparently only listened to Dragonforce, Manowar, Iced Earth and Hammerfall.
Most power metal has a LOT of emotion and energy in it.
Sonata Arctica is a prime example, every single song they wrote you can tell the singer(Tony) put his heart and soul into writing the lyrics and singing them.
IMO Power Metal is the only genre of metal where MOST of the bands put emotion into, all other genres of metal only some bands do. (Whose going to tell me that thrash metal bands that write about murder are putting emotions other than angst into their song writing?)
And also, basically ALL power metal bands do a ton of moving around, solos, hair flippage and the works at shows if you ever went to one with a power metal band.
It's just not brutal enough at all.
Brutal = / = Good.
You could argue that Slipknot are brutal.

He's not arguing that brutal is good, he's just saying that he prefers his metal brutal, and power is not brutal enough.

Speed Metal is your solution to that problem.
Seriously, Speed Metal is basically Thrash influenced Power Metal or power influenced Thrash Metal.
Oh yeah, and Dragonforce.
lol
I mean anyone that can tell me that Helloween's very first album, all of Blind Guardian's albums except there 2006, Iced Earth and the like ARE NOT brutal in there own way obviously can't hear thrash metal influences.

It's called Evangelion. Some standout tracks include: Ov Fire and the Void and Lucifer.
Also has some pretty beast album art.
Proud Demon residing in the METAL HELL!
Lay down your soul for the god's rock n' roll!

This man is right.
And Slipknot is not brutal, it's shit. Shit metal, to be precise.
I've listened to Sonata Arctica, Drakkar, and Helloween, and to be honest they all bore the hell out of me. I'm not a big fan of the soft stuff.
Perhaps something a bit heavier than the melodic stuff?
Like Blind Guardian
Kamelot
Symphony X
Beyond Twilight
Listen to these four songs.
Tell me if you like.

Behemoth always has great artwork. Except maybe Thelema.6 but every album has cool mythological and awesome shit on it.
Everyone knows Dethklok is the true incarnate of brutality.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

That album is tits. I listened to half their songs so far and they're all awesome. I might just have to buy that album, and I rarely ever buy my music.

Blind Guardian
Was alright until the opera-like vocals.
Kamelot
Not bad again, but still don't like the vocals.
Symphony X
Very good, actually. But according to the tags it's progressive metal?
Beyond Twilight
Better than the first two, but still not that good.
Tell me if you like.
Compared to the other power metal I usually hear they weren't bad, but I'm not really a power metal guy in general. Thanks for the songs, though. At least I don't hate power metal THAT much anymore.

Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned

Also, we just had a hueg discussion about it. Lol.
I just picked up a Virgin Steele album the other day. Good stuff. And Helloween is boss.
Helloween - Savage

To me its the vocals im not a fan of pretty much any power metal bands vocals, the only power metal ive listened to and even liked remotely was Iced Earth not too sure why though haven't listened to them since the summer.
I've been listening to Gris a lot lately, does anyone have some other depressive/suicidal black metal to recommend?
?

Ah I heard that on youtube the other day, creamed my pants as well.

That it does.

So he's not a fan of power metal, big deal. As long as we don't get any "power metal is not metal" bullshit, all is well.

They're prog/power but I'm glad to know you've given the genre a better chance and much respect for that.
Hey guys I'm back! Sorry it took so long to post for so long I had school and shit. But I got some new jazz shit on the drums under my belt so I can come up with some crazy metal shit. Also I brushed up on my Black Sabbath kick ass band and if you guys like them you should listen to the Sword they sound like they did before Ozzy fucked his voice. And I think I'm a prog metal and thrash metal guy more than then anything else.
Oh I forgot to say that I think Dragonforce is one of the fakiest bands of all time and power metal is alright and its a lot better than hair metal

How the fuck is Saxon power metal?
They are NWOBHM and the cheesiness of their lyrics transcends that of power metal.
It's really nice to see these new members here actually posting.

a little heavy, maybe, but then, it's metal. but yeah, not brutal.

More like StudioForce if you know what I mean. It is a lot better than hair metal, you're correct. God, I remember when I first started to get into music and listened to that 80's shit nonstop. It's embarrassing to even admit I worshipped Twisted Sister, Winger, Warrant, Night Ranger, and even more awful bands.
