Wait, so your girlfriend's decapitated scalp is on your desk?

My bad Bruce. I didn't think you were a murderer, so it came as a surprise if that helps at all.
Which it doesn't.

From what I remember it was more like something about screamers and bands with arshe vocals.
btw...
Statement: I pronounce Atmospheric Metal the greatest music of all time.
Agalloch
The Morningside
I need to find some more bands, these are simply awesome.
In fact, I should just say "atmospheric and ambient music".
Cause Ulver and If These Trees Could Talk also hold a very important place in my heart.
The Wind by The Morningside
I really don't understand what metal is, Ive listened to stuff like Slipknot, Trivium, since i was like 9 and ive always passed it for metal... but im wondering whether its just because you don't like it or because it actually is a different type of music? so what is it?

Slipknot are, on paper, Nu Metal. But personally, I wouldn't describe them as that. I would have called them Hardcore Punk back when they started, but I don't know what to call them now.
Trivium are just straight up Metalcore.
Neither are really Metal.
It is a different kind of music. Musicians can usually tell easier. But if you listen to Escape the Fate before you listen to Black Sabbath, you're usually pretty fucked up musically for the rest of your life.
I've just been completely wasted ever since the day of the Megadeth/Slayer show. Double Dragon suck balls.
Megadave were amazing, Slayer was better.

I've only listened to Focus a couple of times too so I can't really compare... as I can't actually remember either (cept for Veil of Maya).
Also... Ponos?
Yeah bloke.
And Focus is so good.

Fuck yes. Listened to that song like a million times.

They're not a favourite of mine no, but atleast they're promoting complex metal into the mainstream.
A couple of other things I'd like to add:
Duff, you're a fucking tard.
I stumbled across this DVD. All the members of Melvins and Fantomas playing a bunch of Mevlins/Fantomas songs. With two drummers. Dave fucking Lombardo, and Dale Crover. And Mike fucking Patton making fucked up noises. Really fucking sweet DVD. I've gotten high and watched it like three times. Drunk too. Good shit.

Shitty fucking half arsed deathcore crapshit.

Yea that's pretty much on the mark.
But they're a lot more Melodic/Atmospheric/Epic than other bands of that type.
This is a favourite of mine from their newest album.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

This album on the other hand, I'm liking this.I struggle listening to Dopethrone because of the length.
Really? I've listened through it twice with ease. If there's any length concerns in Stoner metal, it's Dopesmoker. These tracks have reasonable lengths except for the hidden track on Mind Transferral.

You have a lot to learn but we're willing to help you out but Ryan's given you a nice start. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
I just discovered awesomeness.
Seriously, they sound amazing. I don't know why I haven't heard of them, but I have something to listen to now for the next week or so.

Sorry for the double post, but I really need to answer this.
When I first tried to enter this place, my list was full of metalcore and nu metal bands. Everyone here was telling me that I need to listen to REAL metal, and so I did. Now I hate metalcore and nu metal bands.
We'll help you with all you need to know, and to be honest when you see someone who says "OMG HAI I LISEN TO METAL I LIEK SILPKONT AND DISTRUBD" shoot them. Or inflict pain amongst them anyhow.

Duff and I had a discussion after I mentioned them a while ago, they are one of my all time favourite bands at the moment.
Make sure you get the album Altered Genesis, it's by far their best :)

Yeah lets beat people up just because they like some bands that you don't like.
Can anyone recommend me some good Funeral Doom? Preferably something that creates an atmosphere that crushes you with despair.

Cool man, i'll check it out :)
I just need some money so I can buy some more music, I'm broke.

Since you like Mastodon, check out Ahab. It's a funeral doom band with a nautical theme. They have two albums out, so get both.

I was about to recommend them, but Idio beat me to it. Check out Ahab; no atmosphere is as despairingly crushing as the bottom of the sea (literally it will crush you to bits).
Anyone have any good blackened death metal bands that they would like to recommend? I liked Behemoth and Celtic Frost, so does anyone have any similar bands I should check out?
