Rediscovered Om today. I love their music, but the songs are so damn long that it discourages me from listening to them. You sort of need to have a designated time to listen to them, I feel.

Shut up, Hawkwind rule, and bear a resemblance to metal. If we had to talk about metal all the time, I would stop coming here.

Sorry Capn, I just don't think you're ready =(

I wish it could be different, but it's just how it's gotta be mate.

Also checked out Novembre, everyone go listen them now if you haven't already! (except Capn :p)

Seems like the best option and I will look into the first few albums as you recommended. A relative of mine is into Hawkwind and said he'd try and get some of their music for me but that WAS ages ago. Anyway, thanks again Bill! :)

And one last thing, they have a TON of comp discs, way too many, granted some are good but the rest are the same rehashed material, if you want to get a comp let me know which one and I will let you know if it is worth getting.

I try and avoid compilation albums as much as I can, unless I feel I'm better off with getting one instead of many studio albums. For Hawkwind, I'm sure I'll be good with studio albums, despite how many they have overall.

We've talked about other non-metal bands here before. Prog rock's a great example. Also, did you forget when we were all talking about Radiohead a few months ago?

I actually don't have any of Opeth's stuff, but Om definitely has Opeth beat in the song length category; Om's songs have an average length of about 15 minutes :P

I always think 'Ooh, yes I have heard these'. Then I check iTunes and find it I've listened to Novembers Doom instead :P.

Novembre makes me think its going to be some kind of Death/Doom or something...?

And despite being about 90% longer the songs are 1000000% more interesting*.

wow...

I knew right when I wrote this that you would react as an immature kid. You know what... I have just stated this because you talk about stuff that isn't metal most often than not, and that I think that this is still the Metal Hell. If you can't take criticism, than your the immature kid right there. So fuck off with your "dumbfuck". I don't have a prob with you answering questions. I have a prob with you talking ONLY about rock and early metal. If I'm wrong, than tell me. I can take it. I'm not immature and I don't have that much of an over-sized ego.

Did I say we shouldn't talk about anything else than metal? Never in the past I've said anything like that. Batman, from what I see, can't stand most of today's metal bands. But tell me if I'm wrong. If he can proove that he's Agalloch, Ulver, Behemoth, Kreator or The Morningside's greatest fan in the world. Than FINE. I will apologize and admit that he respect what we like and that he like's it. Than fine. I am no troll... I am no dumbfuck...

If they are metal than fine, if they influence metal than fine. And if batman likes stuff that influenced metal, than fine. So leave out all the insults. I'm not saying that we should talk only about metal. But if someone come in here and that he cannot appreciate anything else than old-metal and rock... it's just like when you guys told me in the past that I was not fitting in the Metal Hell when my tastes were exclusively Melodic Death Metal. I got your point when you guys told me I should get into more metal to fit in the Hell. Cause it was true.
So yeah, I'm only saying we should only show a kind of interest in metal IN GENERAL (yes, IN GENERAL)

If you dissaproove, than feel free to say it... but please man...
insults are stupid and immature.

thanks a lot.

Released from the bondage
Bloodlust is turned to knowledge
I will kill you
Return into the carnage

Sentient forms have risen
Time is an endless prison
You will die
I'll become cold and wizened

You know your place in history
Are you denying I am free?
Any prophet of this new dark age can see

Rise from the tomb of millions
Crawl to become reptilian
I will kill you

Like those who came before you
Life never ceased to bore you
You will die
History will ignore you

Then you'll engage in prophecy
Why can't you handle being free?
Another victim of a slaughter prophecy

No need for ritual slaughter
Bow to the crest of martyrs
You will evolve
But not getting any smarter

You think the truth will set you free
While you're denying what you see
Any prophet of this new dark age can see

I Will Kill You/You Will Die - The Lord Weird Slough Feg

So what? If thats Bill thang, its Bill thang.
Plus you say its all he talks about (which isn't true, for a start) but you have to think that Bill hardly ever posts. So it's not like your intolerance is a regular occurance.

Idio mainly talks about Stoner Doom, does that bother you too?
Goatchrist mainly talked about Black Metal, did that bother you?

Duff: you have to keep in mind that bill is more than twice your age, and his tastes reflect that. He grew up with "old metal and rock" and he was with it from the start. We shouldn't disregard bill's opinions because he likes Motorhead more than recent bands (or any other bands).

Just found this band today, don't know if they're popular or not but according to the views they look underrated.

And before anybody thinks of not clicking on the link, the band is The Scourger.

Wait... what? I apologize if I ever hurt anybody here. That never was the point of any of my posts.

At first I thought about making a huge reply to what you said Bill. But I think I'm the one who missjudged you. I remember you said that a lot of today's metal was shit and that may have been the thing that pushed me to just fight back and leave a useless comment about you not talking about metal music. But I guess I was just wrong. I missjudged you and for this I apologize. So let's move on guys. I guess that really just was a waste of time. Except for the fact that I learned a little more about someone in the Metal Hell.

Em... just so we can leave this all behind. Could you give me some suggestions of bands from your favorites?

On an unrelated note to the arguments, I got myself Electric Wizard's Dopethrone today. Perhaps this could be the beginning of myself getting into Stoner Metal. OK, I did try Sleep's Dopesmoker ages ago but I didn't particularly enjoy it due to the unnecessary length. This album on the other hand, I'm liking this.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-10-17 18:43:46

I have yet another band reccomendation: Blood Tsunami. They seem to be pretty obscure, with only 1 album out, but it kicks major ass. I'm not quite sure what to call them, considering their instrument style is more thrash, but their vocals are a mix between black metal and death metal. So... Blackened Death Thrash Metal? Is that a genre, if not, it is now.

not really into into many metal subgenres. I like power metal, some thrash, progressive, and just a tiny bit of industrial. These are the bands I listen to with some frequency

Children of Bodom
Insania (Stockholm)
Iced Earth
Rammstein
Oomph!
Symphony X
Steel Prophet
Megadeth
Metallica
HammerFall
Mago de Oz
Nightwish
Pantera
Jag Panzer

I can listen to death metal but I will not like it very much. There's a few songs here and there that I like. In the end, I'm more of a hard/classic rock dude.

I struggle listening to Dopethrone because of the length. Plus I mainly feel in the mood for it whilst I'm waking through supermarkets, so I only ever get as far as Weird Tales - and then I just listen to Dopethrone as the song is fantastic.

Dopesmoker didn't do it for me either. Not because of the length, I just didn't find its monotony as engaging as I do with Om or Sunn O))) or something.

And really Stoner ain't my bad. I'm not into grooves much, I prefer soul crushing misery :).
