Not a legitimate genre of metal, as there are no other bands that are grove metal.

Plus, when was the last time you heard someone say something along the lines of "I'm a huge fan of GROOVE metal" "I'm getting into a lot of groove metal" etc? Exactly, never - Because there are SO few bands that are groove metal that it might as well not even be a genre.

And when a load of passengers were stranded in some country, Bruce personally flew his plane out to go and get them back home to the UK.

Really? Wow.

Wait, Bruce can fly his plane? I thoguht he just hired people to do that for him.

In other words, as bland as Iron Maiden are, at least they exude likability.

True.

I never really got into Iron Maiden. My favorite metal band was Metallica when I was younger, but I haven't listened to them nearly as much as I used to.

I don't undestand what you mean by this, they started much later than the earliest metal bands, and they weren't even the first band in the NWOBHM movement.

I don't see how any of these bands are similar to Pantera other than maybe a few influences.

Well, I don't care about the specifics, I don't listen Heavy Metal or any of the early bands. But they pioneered Metal.
Thats what I meant.

While Dickinson hopes the gunman doesn't realize he shat all over himself.

They're hardly 100% Death Metal.

There is a Death influence but its not overly strong.
And there is a Groove influence (which I started below Gojira and Mastodon), amounst other things. They're Prog, its what you expect.

They're technically Progressive Death Metal, and that's what they call themselves. They're similar to Opeth in that respect.

They're Prog of some sort. I don't think they have enough Death influence to be called Progressive Death personally, but I can see why they would call themselves that. Also compared to Opeth, I much prefer Gojira. Not just because they are one of two Whalecore bands, but because They don't have a damn acoustic break in every song.

What's wrong with an acoustic break when it's motherfucking awesome?

Apparently motherfucking is a legit word, as this doesn't say it's spelled wrong.

Pffft.

Call me when the Metal Archives reviewers can actually think of a valid point to criticize them for.

I don't know what reasons the reviewers gave since I don't really read the reviews, but I think pretty much everything after Cowboys From Hell (which was awesome) is not so good.

99% of groove metal is fucking shit, the sub genre is a laughing matter.

I can't really back up this statement since I haven't heard much, but I don't have trouble believing this could be true. The groove metal I have heard has given me a pretty bad impression. That's actually the reason I haven't heard much. Although if Gojira really does count, then there's an exception. I dig them.

80's Exodus = Kick ass.

90's Exodus = The Grunge stuff they did, while they sold out, still kicked ass.

2000's stuff = There rifts have become really core-ie and annoying(While they are technical, they are not good to listen to) and also there vocalist utterly sucks(Although he puts on a good show live). Also they are trying way to hard to be meaningful with there lyrics, before they wrote about whatever they wanted to and it was good - These days they are limiting there lyrical topics to, pretty much, religion and the flaws in the world. Basically, they've become pretty horrible.

I mean, there vocallist is trying to hard to sound brutal even though it's making him sound like what the singer of Linkin Park should sound like.
There instrumentalists are all trying to hard to be mega technical, even though they aren't pleasant to listen to.
And there lyrics are all trying to much to be something meaningful, despite how much they are boring.

So yeah, they suck now - That being said, I would still see them if they came around again.

I know the subject died, but eh...

Dimebag was a good lead guitar player. His solos were pretty good, but his riffs were really broish. Their only really good song cementary gates, and Dream Theater already made a much better version of it. Oh, and he had one of the worst guitar tones of all time. Not to mention that after he died he got titanically over rated. But that happens with pretty much every artist that dies at a relatively young age. The only exception I see here is Chuck Schulinder. At least outside youtube videos >_>
