They're technically Progressive Death Metal, and that's what they call themselves. They're similar to Opeth in that respect.

Dimebag was a good lead guitar player. His solos were pretty good, but his riffs were really broish. Their only really good song cementary gates, and Dream Theater already made a much better version of it. Oh, and he had one of the worst guitar tones of all time. Not to mention that after he died he got titanically over rated. But that happens with pretty much every artist that dies at a relatively young age. The only exception I see here is Chuck Schulinder.
