It's silly to say that one musician is the zenith of human ability; there have been millions upon millions of musicians, some of whom achieved great fame, and others lived in total obscurity. To claim that one is better than all the rest is impossible. If you narrow it down and say something like "Gene Hoglan is one of the greatest death metal drummers," I'd be more willing to give that merit. Saying "Gene Hoglan is the best drummer ever" is absurd.

Also, it totally destroys the whole meaning of music. Music isn't about being the best at what you do and defeating all the other musicians, because music isn't a competition. Music's about having fun and playing.

and that's my unprovoked rant of the day

It's like eating ready made pasta meals from a supermarket, and then moving to Italy and marrying a totally babelicious Italian cook, who cooks you delicious authentic pasta dishes whilst sucking your dick.

Alright, hey everybody! I absolutely HATE Iron Maiden - In my opinion they are incredibly boring, their guitarists(all of them) are totally overrated and their lyrics are shit.

Also, you can never hear the bass guitar, and don't even try to point out the obvious countless number of songs where you can hear the bass, because my opinion will stay the same about that too!

Also, while I acknowledge I thought they were great once, I have moved on to other bands like Judas Priest who are obviously superior while being jsut as much overrated!

It's like eating ready made pasta meals from a supermarket, and then moving to Italy and marrying a totally babelicious Italian cook, who cooks you delicious authentic pasta dishes whilst sucking your dick.

Seriously, shut up. Pantera aren't the best band, and they aren't the most influencial.

But guess what? THEY WERE NOTHING BUT METAL AND IN THE LATE 80'S AND 90'S THEY THRASHED, HARD.

Fuck Grove Metal, I don't even consider that a legitimate genre - In my opinion, they were thrash metal but just a different style of thrash.

Calling Grove Metal a different genre from thrash metal is like saying Speed Metal is a different genre from power metal.

John Petrucci is totally the best guitarist in Dream Theater!

I didn't even say anything to that effect.
I never dissed any of Pantera's talent. I just don't like the band, I don't like the music.
It's like you arguing that I'm not allowed to feel how I feel about their music.

Well, it is.
Bands like Racer X and Cacophony are nothing like bands like Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica.
Just because your Helloween and Blind Guardian are the like have dabbled with both of them doesn't mean they're the same thing.

You can't forget to add Martin Lopez. Though I guess that's kind of a given... Seeing as he's definitely up there with the best.

I honestly feel opeth's new drummer is much more innovative and original than Lopez.

Speaking of which, do you guys think there album Damnation was tremendously hated by people who listened to it expecting death metal?

Neil Peart and Dave Lombardo are both legends, they're better than just about everyone.

Vinne Paul is still a comptent drummer. He's not the best, but he's by no means a bad musician.

I'm sorry if I implied that he's a bad musician. I didn't mean that in any way. People just worship him like he's a drumming God when he's pretty average.

I disagree. I mean, I'm not a drummer, and I haven't heard Martin Axenrot drum on six separate albums, but Martin Lopez seems like a much better drummer. To me, on Watershed, it sounded like Axenrot used the same technique/fill (I don't know what it's called) in a lot of the songs. Not to say he's not a good drummer, but not as good as Lopez in my opnion.

Speaking of which, do you guys think there album Damnation was tremendously hated by people who listened to it expecting death metal?

I don't really know that many people who are into Opeth, and everyone I know who is liked Damnation.

And there is such a thing as real metal and no-metal.

That totally explains why the MA allowed them, Damageplan, Superjoint Ritual, and Down on the site.

MA isn't the bible, cock stain.

Last I checked, Pantera has guitar solos and the drums don't sound like garbage cans.

I'm talking about the MUSIC. Not the drums and solos.

Of course you think Paul Mazurkiewicz is a good drummer, so you really can't talk.

Already explained that, let it go. I said is good. Not as good as others.

Pantera started Groove Metal.

Also Iron Maiden aren't angsty fags.
And when a load of passengers were stranded in some country, Bruce personally flew his plane out to go and get them back home to the UK.
Phil Anselmo probably would of gone over and called them pussies or something.

In other words, as bland as Iron Maiden are, at least they exude likability.
