Ok.... first of all... no such thing as "Old Metal"... its not a subgenre anyway.
There is also... Folk Metal, Speed Metal, Metalcore, Grindcore, "Gothenburg" Metal, Goth Metal, Groove Metal, Industrial Metal, Alternative Metal...

Sure...
Folk Metal: In Extremo (note: lyrics are in german)
Speed Metal: Grave Digger
Metalcore: Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God
Gothenburg Metal: In Flames, Soilwork, Arch Enemy
Groove Metal: Pantera (has a little grove metal in there, but they are mainly Thrash)
Industrial Metal: Mnemic, Raunchy
Alt. Metal: System Of A Down, Nothingface
For Folk Metal I think that Finntroll could fit in this categorie.
I dont think that Lamb of God is Metalcore, metalcore is more like Atreyu and less heavier music than that

Atreyu is hardcore, which is not even metal. Lamb of God's older stuff, like before Ashes of the Wake, was mainly groove metal. Now they are pretty much metalcore, as their style of playing has changed quite a bit.

Blackened Folk I'd say, but you are right :)

No, I'd call Atreyu EMO.

Emo, Hardcore, Metalcore, and Grindcore are all similar styles, right... I'm not completekly sur about that because I have really only heard Metalcore.
And btw... the heaviness is random with Metalcore... compare bands like Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God... they arre bothq uite heavy... but Killswitch Engage isnt quite as heavy... and as far as the clean parts... especially in songs like The End Of Heartache... it is not nearly as heavy.

grindcore is nothing like emo, hardcore or metalcore. listen to napalm death. they r fuckin heavy. so its probly closer to death metal than any of them

yeh end of heartache had SOOO much melody in it. i was like WTF. but its still a fuckin great album.

EMO sounds a little bit more like punk, like My Chemical Romance or The Used. I still find that Atreyu is too much heavy to be EMO, its probably more like Metalcore than emo
the terminology is screamo :P and finntroll are black folk metal whereas korpiklanni are proper folk deffinatly worth checking out :D
Mnemic...Industrial Metal?? Oooook then...
CoB aren't speed metal.
Also, Mallcore is a great metal subgenre ;D

Yep... thats what they are... Industrial Metal... they also sound a bit Nu-Metalish...

Then what are they?

Eh, its not bad... I do like some of teh Alt Metal, and bands like Mnemic... which are loosley Nu-Metal... but still are.
CoB are hard to categorise they have the harsh lyrics but the musical style can suggest power (lol) but as Tharikifa usually says they are speed metal, several reasons
1. they are fast (duh)
2. the lyrical content and style doesnt really put them into melodic black or melodic death
i would go with them being speed metal.
i am so in dude i love heavy metal!!!!!!!!! metallica is my favorite band!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calling Speed Metal is more general really... and I do see a hint of Power Metal in there, they do fit in okay with bands like Primal Fear, only they are generally much faster... which only further proves that they are Speed... if they can outspeed a Speed/Power band. lol.
So if you want to get Technical, I would call them...
Melodic Speed Metal/Power Metal w/ Harsh Lyrics...
Wait... is there such a thing as Melodic Speed Metal?

Any other Metal bands that you like?
Hi guys, I'm back, the full length will be done soon, please tell me now if you want a copy (TehGaySatanist, don't worry, I know you want one) S&H I will tell you (it depends on where you live) but it should be reasonable, the price of the full length is $18.

Well then if you want in you are going to have to post some of your favorite metal bands...
Guys, what teh fuck is going on with the archives, every time I try going or seacrhing tehre I get:

Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.
The categorisation of Children Of Bodom is a topic that will never leave people completely happy. They have certain aspects from a few genres making them difficult to categorise. I find it better to just not worry about it.
Also, for folk metal listen to Elvenking. They are definitive of folk metal.
Regarding Metal Archives, I think they've been having some domain problems is all. I heard it was down a short while ago as well for that reason and it has recently come back online. I'm assuming it's the same sort of problems. Especially seeing as it has to do with billing.
Metal Archives is back up.

Site problems (posted at 10:13)
Good morning everyone,
I'm sure you all realized the site has been very, very screwy lately. I'll try to explain what happened to the best of my knowledge (explanations from my host were limited despite my numerous inquiries).
After all the MAX_CONNECTIONS errors were getting out of hand, our host moved us to a new, more powerful server. In the process they managed to restore only an incomplete database, missing quite a few tables (including the User accounts and Reviews). The board was unaffected, since all the tables for it were fine.
So after I yelled at them about this, they restored it back fully - but instead of restoring the missing tables only they loaded EVERYTHING, including the forums, thus overwriting everything that had been posted on the board in the meantime.
But the host decided to limit our bandwidth "for testing", and they would "remove it shortly", causing us 24+ hours (hah, shortly) of excessive slowness. I inquired (at least three times) how long this would last and received no reply.
Then, the next thing I know yesterday evening, they overwrote the database content AGAIN, using the INCOMPLETE ONE. Why they did this is beyond me, I have not received any decent explanation about it. So not only were all the posts made in between both database copies gone, but the reviews and such were still not back up, causing a lot of errors. I preferred to shut down the site with the short message instead of having a messed up buggy one, I'm sure you understand why.
I have then sent a nasty message about this, demanding a refund, but so far, no official reply. I did, however, speak with the lead staff this morning on MSN about this. He restored the database again, and now it seems to run fine. Of course, once again the forum posts are overwritten, but there's nothing that can be done about that at this point, so you'll have to live with it.
I don't know for how long this site will be stable, but I was told they would monitor it carefully. Let's hope this is the last of our problems, at least for a while. *knocks on wood*
We're very sorry for all the problems and downtime. Unfortunately it was all beyond our control. We have received a lot of complaints by email, and we can't answer them all, so instead I posted this and I hope it clears up some confusion. Keep in mind that the traffic for Metal Archives is HUGE, and seemingly keeps on growing, which might account for those problems. If it was more affordable we'd look into going on a dedicated server, but our options are limited at this time.
Thanks for your comprehension, and enjoy the site once again - for now.
