It's repetitive in a droney sort of way, like it relaxes you and calms you down. I don't mean minimalistic like "boring," just simple. The album would be awful if it had tons of instruments playing different melodies and such, it would be too cluttered. The strength of the album is it's simplicity.

Funny, because the strength of Blood Inside was its claustrophobic, cluttered, feel. It's amazing how Ulver go from one extreme to the next, going from straight folk music to balls out black metal to industrial metal to trip hop to symphonic electronic to avante garde rock to minimalist music like Shadows of the Sun. What an amazing journey.

And to Animetal: 2007 does not consist a long-timer. And you're digging yourself a nice hole there. Rule of holes: if you're in one, quit digging. I'm not trying to single you out, either; people seem to think the metal hell is the place to have flame wars. That's what General, or god forbid, /b/ is for. This is for discussion, not retarded page-filling multiple-quoted flames. It lowers the collective IQ of the bunch and kills my buzz worse than a DUI.

I was not judging minimalism. I just wanted to understand how it was a positive point in his opinion.

I tried looking more into Trip hop music...
but so far, I really didn't find anything like Ulver's City Of Perdition.

I've heard Once Was Not is better, if only slightly. But I won't get my hopes up.

I'd stay away from all this shit if I didn't feel obliged to listen to every Cryptopsy album at least once.

If you're wanting an explanation, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Son, it was established a fair while ago that Cryptopsy isn't worth listening to in the slightest. Get wit da program yo.

It's Psycryptik now, pretty much the same thing (trippy keyboards, heavy guitars, sloooooowwwwwwwwwwwww) but with drums. I have a demo out under that name and it includes a cover of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

LINKLINKLINKLINKLINK MOTHER FUCKER

And Animetal, Heavenduff may be aggravating, but both he and ponos have been here quite longer than you have, so your perspective is quite small. In other words, quit it with the flame wars. I've had it up to my ears with all these flame wars between self important teenagers who just need to smoke some blunts and chill the fuck out. Seriously. Either that, or shoot up fentanyl and watch your heartrate go down halfway.

Can you go one post without bragging about the drugs you do? Gol.

Oooh, I'm one of them.

If you listen to A Marriage of Heaven and Hell there is a fair bit of trip-hop. I asked Ghoul what it was once, I think it's just tripped out hip-hop and shit. Slow, trippy, trippy vocals. Tis a good album, even though it gets shat on a lot. Fucking idiots.

At 4/22/09 09:50 PM, ElGhoulio wrote: Orgasmic

I would say that was interesting. But ultimately, lame.

I've been staying with my metalcore loving cousin here in Sydney. One thing I noticed is he only likes music that has incredible guitar soloing, therefore he doesn't understand minimilism. He lacks musical understanding. I was listening to Darkthrone's Fuck Off and Die and he was like, "When was this made?"

"2007"

"WHoah!!!"

I just saw Memento and now my brain hurts and I no longer want to live anymore due to this mixture of complete bliss - cause the films brilliant - and confusion.

I can't tell whether or not this film is open to interpretation or whether what the Teddy character says at the start is true. Some of it doesn't add up. Like how his wife apparently killed herself with insulin, whilst also being murdered.

Not the right place but I know at least that Sensey is a film buff, so I don't care :P.

They changed their name according to MA. Elvenefris is amazing though. You'll be listening to a song full of blast beats and death/grind riffs and harsh vocals then it will randomly transition into these uplifting acoustic passages with strings and clean vocals. You've got to hear it to understand.

After knowing the band for around 30 months now, I finally got Accept's Balls to the Wall. A few listens so far, but I find it pretty good. However, I prefer Restless and Wild. Also, I just pre-ordered The Devil You Know along with purchasing Mob Rules, so I'm looking forward to listening to those albums next week. :)

Just a random curiosity: Does anyone here listen to the NWOBHM Demon?

Oh, and thanks to those who sorted out the bullshit arguments with AniMetal and HeavenDuff.

Indeed. And its only DTs fault for making albums like Awake, Images and Metropolis so fucking good that anything short of that seems poor :P.

Even so, their other albums are still enjoyable, except for Falling Into Infinity, which I never got into. There was only a track or two that I really liked out of the whole album.

Balrog are fucking excellent, Nazgul Warlord and Destroyer (The Broken Alliance) are fucking diabolical slabs of hateful, war-torn black metal. I love how the drums always seem to resemble artillery/machine gun/AK-47 fire.

Anybody want to recommend me any Tech Death?

It's a genre I have long neglected. However, by my recent discovery of Cryptopsy, (despite approximately only one third of the band's discography being decent or above) the genre has gained my interest.

I know Necrophagist (and like them), but that's pretty much it.
