I dunno about Whitesnake but Judas Priest should be cool, let's hope they play Painkiller or The Sentinel.

SENTENCE FRAGMENTS ARE TOTALLY METAL
Necrophagist lyrics are fine, considering they're German.
And give Muhammed some slack, he has to sing whilst playing those riffs.
What is everyone's opinion on The Black Dahlia Murder?
Melodeath? Metalcore?
I got Miasma and Nocturnal from a friend recently and listening through them at the moment, I'm kinda liking it.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

Something like that. If you like them you should check out Arsis. Get "A Celebration of Guilt".

the lyrics are ridiculous...I see nothing wrong with the below lyrics. Metal isn't know for it's lyricism... I mean, Necrophagist and Cannibal Corpse have awful lyrics.
But Cannibal Corpse are making the lyrics sound this way on purpose and when disussing Death Metal, lyrics rarelly are the main subject.
I think they really are wannabe dark and mysterious piece of crap...But what about the musical content? Lyrics are nice, but when it comes to music, isn't the music the most important part?
The musical content is good, but it's a vocalist's solo project, so I expect decent vocals and lyrics at least. The vocals are nice, the guy can sing for sure, but the lyrics are too wannabe. It's a little like when I was talking about Manowar; there's nothing wrong with being ridiculous... except when you just don't know that you are ridiculous...
And as a vocalist, I really do consider that lyrics are important. Sometimes, even if they are quite simple they can still sound great. The problem with King Diamond's stuff really is the structure of his vocals. There's a lot of useless verses, stuff that he adds just to fill the gaps. But I shouldn't say that all his stuff is horrible, it's alright I guess... just not my favorite :P
I think that the lyrics really are important, especially when your using clean vocals.
Behemoth on Electric Wizard's self titled album is the same fucking song as Black Butterfly!

Viking metal isn't even a real legitimate subgenre. There's just folk metal.

Some viking metal is like folk, some viking metal is like melodic death metal, some viking metal is like black metal...all of it talking about viking stuff

It's not a real genre. It's a label given to metal bands with lyrical themes involving vikings.

But it doesn't describe the genre. Therefore its not a genre.
Its like having a label called Philosophy Metal for bands that write about Philosophy.

true, but even tho its not really a genre, Its still a legitament term.

Its a stupid term for bands trying to sound more interesting than they are.

ya kinda...only really 'Viking Metal' bands I like are Bathory and Turisas...and Turisas is just mediocre at best...and I prefer early bathory, when they were thrash/black

Might not be correct, unless they sited their sources...
"At the age of 14, in 1989, Suiçmez wrote the lyrics for "Onset Of Putrefaction"."
Explains ALOT
Tho I do like the instrumental work that Suiçmez does, the lyrics are bollocks

Oh shit. A nostalgia bomb just went off up in here. I haven't listened to The Kovenant in probably more than 2 years now and I used to love Animatronic when I first heard it. Something tells me I forgot about it for a good reason ... fuck it I'm listening to it again.

Necrophagist are still fucking awesome though.

Necrophagist is good because of Muhammad's skills...the fact that he can growl and play that technically at the same time is genious
I have mixed feelings about Necrophagist. On one hand, Suiçmez is a fantastic guitarist, and his vocals are very good too. To me, though, his songs feel sort of aimless, and are more of vehicles for wheedly-wheedlies rather than actual musical content. I still enjoy the music, though, but not even close to as much as other tech death bands, like Atheist and Demilich

I'd have to agree. Muhammad does a great job, but his songs arent the best...the feel rushed, and often like they arent going anywhere.

Also Death would be a good one to have mentioned.

Just the death-defying, technical, complex music the band puts together as a whole is astounding. The two guitars, the bassist, even the drummer, they're all at their best. Also, random neoclassical shredding.

thats the reason I listen to (some) necrophagist...they have so much talent.

I don't listen to much Death, even though I like them, so I'd feel like a poser if I added them :P

lol, the only reason I really do listen to death, is for Chuck, he does an amazing job at doing technical guitar licks while screaming...I pretty much have every album...believe it or not Death is one of my major influences
Fancy that...Black metal inspired by Death metal?

Death is pure awesome. Chuck Schuldiner is an influential vocalist and the epitomy of a master of extreme metal guitar. He's written some of the most creative and mind blowing riffs and solos, IMO. I love their oldschool sound on their first two albums, but then they evolve until they are almost progressive and they have a super bass player and ferocious drummer.

wow, thats some pretty strong wording there, but ya I'd have to agree.

I'd say that Death is one of the most influential Death metal bands, if not one of the most influential metal bands.

Death is just awesomeness, no matter what they play...be it hardcore death metal or progressive death metal...it will forever be awesome incarnate.
