The fact people at your school know who all those bands are wasn't cool enough.

The fact your school takes you on a field trip to see a metal concert completely for free makes it the best school ever.

Though I enjoyed them live. That was before I thought they were ghey though.
Moonsorrow on the other hand are win.

And oh those shows I'd go to:
Opeth
CC (For Neuraxis)
Stratovarious
The Bezerker
And whoever the fuck I liked because I'd go for my own taste and not because of the tastes of other people on an internet forum.
Peace out.

"sigh"

do you always have to interpret what I say the wrong way ?
I do not care about your tastes at all.

I was asking for which show I should see... depending on how the bands I like can perform live.
I did made a post to ask you guys if Cannibal Corpse was worth it live?... And no one answered... so I decided to ask you...

Please avoid judging me next time.

Not CC.

You will be ripped to shreds.

I went to many shows. I've been in a lot of thrash and nothing can surprise me anymore... I've seen a guy costumed as a Ninja doing some ninja moves during the thrash... funny stuff.

even Tarja would do...
She isn't metal you know.

Its literally opera music.

No, This is Opera

and This is Symphonic Metal

but I'm not sure of which would be the best.
If I were you i'd see kretor + exodus, Destruction, The Haunting, Stratovarius(If not for them for the other band playing with them) and Obituary.

Go to those five concerts, no lie.

I've already seen Stratovarius, but The Haunting looks awesome live, so does Kreator.

99% of the kids that will show up DON'T LISTEN TO THE BANDS. They just go becuase they hear people that actually do listen to them talking about it and go to try to seem cool. I don't give a shit if they actually listen to the music. What I hate is that almost none of them fucking do here. Metal is not a fucking fashion statement that you use to get attention from kids at school or to seem cool. Poseur cunts can fuck off and die.

And how can you even proove this?

There will always be some emos at any kind of core show, because a lot of them are posers of course. But actually... when I saw All That Remains, there was just a couple of them, and they do not actually get into the thrash... cause they are too small and skinny...

Your talking about posers just like if there was only posers for core music. There will always be posers for any kind of music genre... especially if it's popular. That's why I'll always avoid a Iron Maiden show... cause a lot of their fans cannot listen to any other metal bands in the world except for Maiden... and they all think that Maiden is the best fucking band in the world. And I'm pretty sure that theres a lot of posers who go to Cannibal Corpse's shows or Opeth's shows. You know... goths with makeup... chains and school-shooter trench coat.

And you are right Poseur cunts can fuck off and die.

Cause emos are wasting the core scene. They make it look bad... even for the best Deathcore bands. And along with goths, emos are the most annoying poseurs you get to see at shows...

First of they do not wear the black t-shirts of the bands that play... they get ther with their gay pinkish an blue shirts... they have horribe haircuts with a fucking ton of hairspray on it...

In fact they just make the whole genre look bad.

And I also bring core up as you said, because he mentionned Bullet For My Valentine. Basically when someone wants to give an example of whats happening on the core scene, the first band to come up in their mind is BFMV.

For those who are interested, you might want to check out the almighty Godflesh. They're a legendary band who's influence on metal have spanned genres (especially Doom and Industrial). They're one of the heaviest and angriest bands to have ever formed (more so than Anaal Nathrakh, just not quite that heavy).

Justin Broadrick has produced Pelican, Isis, and Jesu (his other band), so if you're into stuff like that, then they're worth checking out.

Streetcleaner, their first album, is dark and very claustrophobic and is definitely more atmospheric than most cookie-cutter bedroom black metal bands. From then on, they've moved into a more standard metal sound (especially with Selfless), although that comparison is pushing it. The riffs are distinct and heavy, but make use of significantly different scales than most bands. A lot of pinch harmonics, regular harmonics, use of the Devil's Triad (root flatted third and flatted fifth, aka a half-diminished arpeggio), and sound effects upon sound effects.

Again, Godflesh is worth having in your library, and if you don't check them out, terrible things will happen to your pets and or grandmothers.

This will help me if i post it here.

So what im trying to do is own an album of each metal sub-genre, for the sake of my CD collection.

Fill the gaps for me pl0x.

Speed/Thrash: Metallica (all of them), Megadeth (quite a few), etc.
Heavy Metal: (Though some may disagree) Hammerfall, one of their live albums.
Power Metal: Stratovarius (Elements Pt 1 + 2)
Death Metal: (Soon to be purchased) Death - (Symbolic)
Avant-Garde: Unless someone else says otherwise, that Arcturus album Nev mentioned earlier
Doom Metal:
Black Metal:
Folk Metal: (Soon to be purchased) Kromlek - (Kveldridhur)

Also, add any genres i may have missed pl0x.

Sham Mirrors or Masquerade?

Doom Metal:

Candlemass (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus or Nightfall) or Doomsword (Let Battle Commence or Self Titled)?

Black Metal:

DMDS. Probably your best bet anyways.

Both of those are complicated genres to narrow down to one album.

I've seen Candlemass' latest in CD stores, and I also hear good things about Orange Goblin's latest.

The only good black metal CD I own would have to be Ulver's Bergtatt. But go acquire some Drudkh.

I don't know about what CD's you can get in city's, as I don't live in one. But I have been to stores in the city and they have a lot of stuff, tis always fun to go thar.

I'm not sure how deep you wanna go with sub-genre's but these are pretty big ones IMO.

Melodic Death Metal: The Absence (Riders of the Plague), Arsis (A Celebration of Guilt), Neuraxis (Trialterla Progression) or Carcass (Heartwork).

Arsis and Neuraxis would be better defined as 'Technical Melodic Death Metal' butt I don't wanna split genre's for you anymore :P

Progressive Metal: Dream Theater (Images and Words), Symphony X (The Oddessy).

Funeral Doom [Cos it's vastly different from normal Doom]: Shape of Despair (Angel of Distress), DOOM:VS (Aeternum Vale) or Skepticism (Lead and Aether).

Industrial Metal: You'll probably have Ministry here but I'd like to mention: Red Harvest (Internal Punishment Programs).

I can't believe I never checked out Iron Savior until last night. I mean, a band that used to have Kai Hansen and Thomen Stauch? I'm surprised I never checked them out sooner. Other bands I had a look at last night were Demon, Racer X and Saxon. Perhaps I should have looked into them sooner, but better late than never, I guess. I'm discovering a bunch of artists now since I'm going to London next week, so I'll be taking my time in the music stores. :P

At 2/17/09 07:46 PM, SpeedMetalSandwich wrote: Kreator and Stratovarius. And shit, i thought they broke up, or did i miss something.

Apparently, Stratovarius are still around, but without Timo Tolkki. They have a new guitarist for the band and should be releasing a new album this year.

Hell yeah, you must be in one hell of a school to see people wearing all those shirts. The only time I've ever seen people wearing shirts of Helloween, Sonata Arctica and such was at the Iron Maiden concert last July. I do come across quite a lot of people here wearing Maiden shirts, but for anything else metal, I've only seen one guy wearing an Iced Earth shirt.

It's a shame the high school I went to was never like that.

i'll check it out some time. and by the way i thought the tritone is technically labelled an augmented fourth rather than a diminished 5th? (although being the harmonic equivelant its the same note) meh not that anyone cares apart from music theory freaks like myself

kayo-dot are pretty fecking awesome and quite definitive of the genre (apparently along with the older band maudlin of the well but i havnt got round to listening to them yet) more on the creepy jazzy end of things, very king crimson influenced.

Doom Metal:

i'd say sleep's holy mountain or electric wizard's dopethrone. unless you'd prefer more traditional doom, then early st. vitus or candlemass

Black Metal:

immortal's sons of northern darkness would be a good choice, if you don't own any black metal yet but your a big thrash fan.

Also, to those who checked out or previously knew of Godflesh, I sincerely thank you. And Kidd, they're angrier than Anaal in a different way. 1. Apparently, Metal isn't cool.
2. We hadn't practiced once.
3. I'm bad at playing guitar and singing at the same time.
