I come back after a week break and we are talking about power metal?

www.myspace.com/mefisto1986

^^^ the unsung heros of the 1st wave of Black Metal. supposably had a major influence on the early 90s swedish death scene. Best black Thrash I've ever heard. There is a link to buy thier compilation on the myspace.

I can't remember if I've already recommended them but Nonexistence is pretty great. Death/Doom with gothic elements and a focus on space in atmosphere and lyrics. Been listening to their debut album Nihil on and off for a few months now.

Especially for the Metalcore part :'(

If Rotting Christ and Opeth are what is needed to make an awesome list :P

But this list is quite diversified :)

That supports me.

I love power metal and listen to nearly all of those bands I listed.

Now I couldn't be a fan of more than 30 black metal bands at the absolute most because I find it to boring.

Oh well.

I didn't know that, Wastefall are an amazing prog band.

2.) Opeth
3.) Epica
4.) Zero Hour
5.) Stratovarius
6.) Into Eternity
7.) MoonSorrow
8.) Rotting Christ
9.) Destruction
10.) Obituary

This list is full of win except for Opeth, which is good but predictable.

Like our 233534 newest members... they post their 10 bands and never ever come back :(

I'm going to check out The Black Dahlia Murder. I heard that they make both Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore. I know Metalcore isn't really welcome in here, but for their Melodeath work are they worth it?

You'll find that most popular metalcore is melodic death metal and metalcore it's just to what extent is it core. Jarrydn said something about that a while back and it blew my mind, something about how modern metalcore is At the Gates worship as far as riffs go and they even borrowed the 3 word band name. I think it makes sense.

I know what you mean. And these metalcore bands are the only core that I like.
Tell me what you think. I think there's two categories of Melodic Death; the melodeath/core and the pure melodeath. Just check the newest stuff by Nightrage and it pretty much belongs to the melodeath/core group, but If you check for the albums Descent Into Chaos and everything that was made before, it's much more like the definition of what I call real or pure melodic death metal. Just like Symphonic Black Metal isn't much like True Norvegian Black, there's two genres of Melodic Death.

And if you check out the newest album of Soilwork... you can feel the core in their music... and I think that it's kind of sad that their music isn't anything like it was before.

also, did you read my translation of Alcest's lyrics, TakeNoPrisoners?

You have problems.

I can't stand any metalcore except all that remains, which is still pretty shittie.

And I actually like some deathcore and grindcore because some of it is decent.

And if you check out the newest album of Soilwork... you can feel the core in their music... and I think that it's kind of sad that their music isn't anything like it was before.

Which is why i'm glad of the 20 songs soilwork played when I saw them they only played four songs off their new album.

That whole band is really good.

But I can't help but think how they can so perfectly transition between serious and playful music.

Its both cheerful and depressing at the same time.

I recommend the band for the prog fans.

Can you be hit with Drone's awesomeness? Normally when I'm hit with awesomeness it'll be a particular riff or vocal melody or something (Psycroptic's 'I AM NOT A BELIEVER... OF YOUR POP RELIGIONS!' is a good example). Drone to me is just something I listen to and think 'Hmm, those sounds are very interesting'.

Though I suppose 'Hmm, these sounds are more interesting than other sounds of this genre making my point redundant oh so very easily, but I made the point about Psycroptic and I love that song so I shall just continue this post to its tedious conclusion... a phrase that I heard on a Richard Herring stand up routine and am going to copy...'

And The Sinking Belle is fantastic.
As is Jesse Sykes. I can't make that point enough. She's ace. And hot. And old which I suppose would make her a MILF. But its more beautiful, and MILF just seems insulting. Though I totally would.

And so ends my fairly pretencious post.

I personally say, it doesn't matter how many metal bands you listen to, it doesn't make you any more 'metal'. For me, im happy with the...lets see, i can't remember how many bands i have but i know it doesn't go any higher then about 60, and im content with only listening to about 5 of them in a month.

In other news, i plan on owning at least 1 album of each metal sub-genre. So far i have loads ofThrash, loads of Speed, loads of Power, Industrial and soon to be one Death Metal album. All my black/tech death/folk is all stuck on the computer.

Need recommendations for the other missing genres.

It's Prog gone coo-coo-bananas.

Just go on Wikipedia and search for it, theres a nice analogy about building houses with Mike Patton and John Petrucci.

Which would be a brilliant TV show.
