Is brutal death just heavier death or what?

Basically, yeah. They have more gruesome lyrics and just an overall heavier sound. Like Death is brutal death metal, but you could call Aborted brutal death metal. Their subject matter is gorier and whatnot.

Huh, I thought it was something like that.

So yesterday I was on the bus listening to my walkman with a Sonata Arctica CD in it.

I was blasting it, cuz I do that with my walkman even if it's unhealthy.

Anyway on the bus ride home from school I was just about to put my headphones on when some freshmen stopped me.

I asked him what and he said this "Please don't turn on that major pussy music, it is really degrading to people who take pride in their music." ...........and he was wearing a MCR shirt.

I wouldn't say Death are Brutal Death Metal. Death are perhaps more technical and they're not far off thrash really either (obviously still Death Metal tho).

I'd say the epitome of Brutal Death would be Mortician. I'm not saying they're good, I'm saying they're BRUTTALLL. Like it's a little ridiculous exactly how brutal they are.

But yes, generally Death Metal but a lot heavier. I suppose it can be technical a little too.

I'd say Death are the band most removed from Brutal Death Metal. For a start you can actually understand what Chuck is saying.
And they're definately more Technical and Progressive.

I think of Decapitated (cause of that Fresh Prince video) and Nailed.

It's funny because it's true. I can't listen to Opeth at school without this nu metal douche bag saying he can't get into it (in other words it's terrible in his eyes) and that I should listen to some real music, like Mudvayne, or Slipknot, or Puddle of Mudd (all of which are not metal).

I have this friend with hair down to his ass who EVERY SINGLE DAY wears an Opeth shirt.

He won't fight anyone about anything, bu if you diss Opeth he'll beat your ass into a pulp.

Yes, it is.
OPpeth albums are very hard to find here. And they are very expensive too

Seeing all your guys' shit about bad musical tastes at school makes me feel fortunate to live where I do.

There are douchebags here, sure, lots of Mexicans listening to rap and whatnot, but my friends all have wonderful taste in metal, partially because of me. much stoner metal, black metal, and folk metal. there's also this one dude named nils who listens to metal, but he's a douche. he also likes nu metal and not-metal (he has like, a rammstein shirt, a slipknot shirt, and a marilyn manson shirt. and an immortal shirt, and a gorgoroth shirt)

Yeah, I got into metal three years ago and I still have problems with death metal in general. I don't hate it, but I need to listen to the right music. Bands like Morbid Angel and Death really impress me, but Cannibal Corpse and Bolthammer made me picky about which bands I'll enjoy and which I won't.

I had to listen to a bunch of 8 bit versions of metal tracks and I have to say, they sound pretty cool. Some of the songs, most especially Holy Wars sounded like something that could fit nicely into Mega Man and such.

I don't consider it as the album that ruined Opeth, I just don't think its very good.
It has some of my favourite songs on (Harvest, Blackwater Park, The Drapery Falls) but I just don't like the album as a whole. The other tracks bore me when I listen to them as an album.

Hiya! I'm an older metal fan very partial to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and my question is what new Heavy Metal bands can fill the slot after Maiden and Priest?

No death, speed, trash and what not please!

I know of Hammerfall and Soundgarden, but would like to hear about more recent good metal groups.

Hammerfall is POWER METAL.

SoundGarden is Grunge, Alternative Rock, Hard Rock and Alternative Metal. None of which are metal.

I know you said no speed metal, bu I think you might like Running Wild. And since you mentioned Hammerfall, I can give you some other power metal. Perhaps you'd be interested in Stratovarius, Dark Moor, Falconer, Zandelle, or Helloween (though Helloween's first and, imo, best album is speed metal). And for some awesome progressive power metal, you should check out Symphony X. Maybe not their latest album. What I heard from it disappointed me, but all of their other full lengths are very good. Divine Wings of Tragedy and the Odyssey are often considered their best albums. And for more awesome progressive power metal, check out Angra, especially the albums with Edu Falaschi, which start from their fourth album. It's all good, though. And Savatage is a heavy/power metal/prog rock band you might dig.

Not all of the bands mentioned were recently formed, but if any of the ones I named are bands you have not yet heard, then hey, it's new to you, right?

Just to pick a fight, most of genres you're mentioning weren't even thought of in the early eighties, when I was young. Yes I am that old.

Give us band names and we'll tell you bands that are similar to them, I guess.

Hammerfall may be power metal to some, but to me they are hard rock or even Heavy metal. Genres are not very easily determined.

Bands are; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Tygers of Pan Tang, Van Halen, Saxon, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Accept, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Deep Purple to mention a few.

I have you beat by 2 years, if you would like to join our family here just list 10 metal bands you like. I am sure you will fit right in and it would be real nice to be able to converse with someone in my age bracket finally.

Well as I said I'm a fan of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and this also includes some traditional hard rock groups. So without any specific order; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Tygers of Pan Tang, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Saxon, DIO, Whitesnake (a bit glam but still good), Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Accept, Led Zeppelin, Losoland (a Thai band, really good), Ozzy.

Well batman64 we old ones Thanks to th have to keep together, somehow! Thanks for the support from everyone, I never thought Heavy Metal was so important.

vdviking:

I know my fair share of bands with that kind of mid-80's Trad. Metal/Speed Metal sound that might not necessarily be from that era:
Axel Rudi Pell (Their earlier stuff in particular)
Hardline
Accomplice
Viking Skull
Crush 40

This is pretty cool, having 2 guys here in their early 40's.
