As you said, most of it is metal. I know what you mean when you say some melodic death is dancing on the line between metal and metalcore, but not a lot of these bands falls under that description. I'd say that the bands who only use clean vocals for the chorus to get a "catchy pop melody" during their song are the kind of melodeath that should be considered metalcore.

i think there are no set lyrical themes for a genre, its all about delivery. Summoning use tolkien fantasy but they arent like blind guardian.
