it's not an argument in the sense of a debate argument, but it is an argument. A T-Shirt with a band's logo on it is arguing that you like the band, an advertisement is arguing that you should do what it says, and a logo is an argument like the ad's.

never heard that before :P

it's a subgenre of noise rock, characterized by really layered guitars, vocals low in the mix, and a spacey atmosphere. Like My Bloody Valentine or Low.

What you're doing is you're taking examples of people who listen to one or two Metal bands of a certain style and saying that, that doesn't constitute them being a Metalhead.
Yet people who listen to lots of bands in one genre is completely different, because they're listening to lots of Metal bands. Just not from a variety of genres.

Cause you'll have to admit that metal is so vast, that you can be a power metal fan and hate every other genre of metal.

I wouldn't call in an argument, I think it's called an opinion.
Arguments are made to support your opinions. But saying "You suck, this band sucks, your stupid!" may be an opinion, but that would make a really poor argument.

You can't really say they are influenced by Sabbath if they are influenced by an influenced by an influenced by Sabbath band. Cause in this way, you would have to say that every single band is influenced by the first guy who ever played guitar. That would be true... but still kind of pointless to mention.

I could talk about this till the cows come home, and I don't think you're going to understand it better. But let me try one last time.

In english, we dissect an argument into four parts; 1. Position. 2. Support. 3. Analysis (Why is this important?) 4. Further implications.

A good argument is thus:

1. We should drink milk. 2. It has calcium and vitamin D in it. 3. Calcium and Vitamin D are good for you, so milk is good for you. 4. If you drink milk, you will be healthier.

Bad argument:

1. Buy this product. 2. ???? 3. ????? 4.????
OR
1. This band sucks. 2. ????? 3. ????? 4. ????

You see, they are arguments, but they're missing the whole part of the argument. If you cut a leaf off of a stalk of corn, it's still corn, but you wouldn't recognize it as such.

I do not really know noise rock genre, but I always thought that noise rock was kind of pejorative for a genre classification.

Noise is one of my most favorite genres. It's not really pejorative because it's pretty accurate; it's noise, but it's also rock.

I didn't fail to get it dude, I understand what your saying, but I'm just sticking to my point.
In fact we're talking about the same thing right now. Your just naming it otherwise.

I say

1. This is an argument
2. This isn't an argument

and you say

1. This is a good argument
2. This is a bad argument

You see, they are arguments, but they're missing the whole part of the argument. If you cut a leaf off of a stalk of corn, it's still corn, but you wouldn't recognize it as such.

If your talking about corn it works...
But if I'd say it for a pen let's say, it would be totally different...
If you would dismantle (I don't know if that's the correct word, sorry I'm french speaking) a pen and only keep the ink you couldn't say it's still a pen.

I did get your point though.

I do not really know noise rock genre, but I always thought that noise rock was kind of pejorative for a genre classification.

I think it sounds pejorative cause most of the time we use the word noise to talk about annoying sounds or very loud and cacophonous sounds.

Noise is one of my most favorite genres. It's not really pejorative because it's pretty accurate; it's noise, but it's also rock.

Hey Duffy, I'd quit it with the whole antagonizing thing, right about now. It seems like every time you see something you disagree with, you find it to be your civic duty to argue the FUCK out of it, no matter how trivial it is.

Face it, what we talk about here is trivial. Big deal, we like metal. Twenty years from now, no one will care, and we won't care.

The difference between Benighted and Mindflayer is that Benighted has a melody. And coherent tones. And the songs aren't 10 minutes long and full of static and feedback.

care to explain then?

Well he wasn't actually insulting Gamma Ray. See, in the previous discussion, people were saying ridiculous comparisons non-metalheads have made about metal with other bands; blind guardian to iron maiden, etc.

AniMetal comes in, humor-hat donned, and poses some hypothetical quotes. See, the humor of the quotes is in the exaggeration; no one could possibly compare Gamma Ray to Bob Dylan. Like, after that, he makes a hypothetical quote from a hypothetical idiot who thinks that Opeth is Nickelback with a different name. See, the humor from his joke is derived from the irony of his statements; they're just too ridiculous to be possible opinions.

Note that he used quotation marks when discussing Bob Dylan and Gamma Ray.

In other words, you argued over nothing. AniMetal doesn't think Gamma Ray sound like Bob Dylan. For all I know, he probably likes Gamma Ray. He was a-jokin'.

sidenote: for a champion of fair opinions and logical arguments, you sure did rip on Bob Dylan a bunch.

And you'll realise that the three last posts this gay kid made do not contain anything else than insults...

Is pretty telling. I'm thinking you're more of a reactionary thinker than you think. You champion a view that you've gone flagrantly gone against plenty of times. Was calling him gay a sign of frustration or is that something you're comfortable doing to anyone you disagree with?

If someone's just going to throw insults at me I can't see why I should try to make intelligent posts... I made a few posts, explain my thoughts and opinions (even if I was mistaken). And still everything he did was throwing insults at me. But as I said, I was wrong, I didn't realise soon enough that he wasn't serious.

When I disagree with someone, I like to have an intelligente debate with him, and you'll probably be able to see that I do not insult people when were having a correct dicussion.

I'm not trying to beat that dead horse. You made a mistake it happens sometimes. If your original response to him had not been a mistake, it definitely would be a stupid post. He hasn't responded to the fact that you were misunderstood yet and I don't really blame him for jumping the gun. The fact that you blast people for name calling only to turn around and do it to them is still hypocrisy regardless.

Almost? That's pretty much the objective as far as I can tell. The lyrics are in french so I don't know what those mean but in interviews with Neige he's said that most of what Souvenir's is, is an ode to nostalgia.

Probably... but as you may know, I'm always fighting with people in here, and I tend to get angry when I see that when someone disagree with me he always has to call me names. I always try to avoid insulting people, as much as possible. And second of, I never use an insult as an argument.

I decided to take a look at Wikipedia and they say that Shoegaze comes from the fact that the first guys to play that kind of music where always gazing at their shoes and standing still.

I read some stuff about Alcest also and I would say from what I have read and heard that they are something Shoegaze Black Post-Metal or something like this.

And I feel that the music of this band is so... not heavy at all... It almost feels happy :)
Almost? That's pretty much the objective as far as I can tell. The lyrics are in french so I don't know what those mean but in interviews with Neige he's said that most of what Souvenir's is, is an ode to nostalgia.

No it's not really happy and it is in fact really nostalgic. But I feel that compared to other atmospheric or ambient bands, Alcest doesn't sound melancholic or sad. That's pretty much what I meant.
Maybe tomorrow I'll translate some of the lyrics for you if you care.

Also, I really like the cover of the album

That would actually be really cool. I tried to find them translated through google back when I first started listening to the album a lot and couldn't find much.

Also, I really like the cover of the album

I do too.

Sorry for the double post but the song I've been waiting to be accepted into the audio portal and validate my account has finally popped up. If you guys wouldn't mind listening to it give it a go. Don't expect much though, I know very little about music I guess I've just been doing it for fun lately. It's not metal at all, just some good old fashioned piano and strings.

Why is it that every single moron thinks that all power metal bands are influenced by Iron Maiden and that they all sound like em.

Number fucking 1:

All power metal bands RRRRRRRR influenced by Iron Maiden.

TWOOO, to the untrained ear, or even a trained one, they share elements.

Fuck your bum.

So em... their just saying that Edguy, Helloween and Sonata Arctica all sound the same...
I think it's stupid... high pitch vocals are not all that similar.
I think that These three bands have very good vocalists and that they are all different...
Whatever...

And I was just listenning to Agalloch, and I'm really wondering how they should be classified...
some people say they are Doom and some random guys say it's Folk, but I doubt it.
What do you guys say?

I already told you they were doom, with folk and post-rock influence. I have them classified as Folk/Doom Metal on my iTunes.

Wow, I think HeavenDuff is actually really really smart. He insulted someone really poorly, showed off that he had a job to try and look more mature, AND embarrased himself at THE SAME SMEGGING TIME.
Clapclapclap.

Just one of the reasons why Black Sabbath used to be the absolute greatest band in the world.

Because Maiden are just absolutely laughable. I watched an Iron Maiden dvd the other day. Jesus christ.

I just call them Folk Metal. That seems to be the dominant style, the Doom/Black influences in there are just part of their Folk sound.

They are more of a doom metal band than a folk metal band, if I may say so sir.

You know I'm a big Brutal Death Metal fan right?

More like a lame Modern Death Metal fan wrong.

Which is all clean and pleasent sounding, with lots of ghey in between :D:D:D:D:D:DHAPPY

TL;DR version:

Duffy has to go away now, because because because because.

Black Sabbath's first 6 albums are the best music there is period blood.

I watched an Iron Maiden dvd called "Death on the Road".

40 year old guitarists playing simple as shit stuff, with a really homo-erotic singer who likes to dress up.

But in all fairness, Steve Harris is brilliant.
