I've come to the conclusion that metal is about being over-the-top.

Examine every subgenre; they all try to be over-the-top in one way or another.

Power is fast, melodic, ridiculous, whimsical, and gay.
Thrash is aggressive and angry.
Death is brutal.
Black is, well, it's hard to describe what black is. But it's ridiculous and no one can disagree with that.
Doom is slow and heavy.
Drone is slower and heavier.
Stoner is trippy.

Well I've come to the conclusion that shitty metal is over the top. Good metal flows.

Power is over the top, traditional is over the top, and I never like those genres.

Good thrash isn't over the top.

Good death isn't over the top.

Doom ain't over the top, bitch ho.

Stoner isn't trippy, It's just implementing blues influence.

Over the top does work, for example, Clutch's vocals.

I did listen to samples of their new album and to me, it was nothing out of the ordinary for Cannibal Corpse. If the fans like it, good for them, but this won't do for me. I'll just stick to their highlight tracks.

Not once does he try to rap. Since you only have the self titled, they're a little more raw on that record. On Subsequent records Neil Fallon's voice has become more bluesy.
