Yep. Lars sucks balls. Everyone knows this... even Lars probably knows that.
Who the fuck does he thinks he is to talk about Metallica in that way!?
An opinionated character?

If you'd just listen carefully to their stuff and understand the feeling in their music and all the nice melodies, maybe you could understand what Gothenburg Metal is.
Listen to metal. >:(
maybe you should try before telling us :)
btw guys, I was just listenning to Agalloch and I was wondering how it should be classified. I know it's folk metal, but they do use some black metal elements, so em... yeah... I was just wondering.

He got a BIG point. I listen to Iron maiden and they kick balls.
But... Metallica is no shit.
btw... why Lars got crappy? He was so kickass in the 80's and he got crappy...
Reason I could consider:
1- The age... Probably he has like 40 or 50.
2- Never took care of himself.
3- Should have practiced a little more.
4- Should love less that snare drum. Snare drums sucks.
Lars never did anything that other drummers weren't doing. He was decent at best and recently he just devolved into a standard modern rock drummer with some double bass.
Here I am, bored with everything.

Depends on what metal you are listening to.
Some bands are sounding better than ever, while other bands have turned to utter shit.
Iron Maiden can rape Metallica, and Anthrax, and Metallica's drummer is crappy. In Death Magnetic they used a drum machine with a horribly programmed snare drum"
Hes right 100%.
Who the fuck does he thinks he is to talk about Metallica in that way!?
Someone with an opinion? God forbid.

I think he did write some nice stuff.
Nothing too technical, but still some really nice stuff.
and he didn't get worst, he just changed is music style... I think he still can play like before... he's just not writting anything like he did before.

just don't. some bands defy genres, or atleast to cover every aspect of what they do is impossible. blackened progressive apocalyptic folk rock post-metal maybe? =P

Well smeagol discovers the art of black metal photoshop and turned his girfreind into a corpse of art.

My favorite subgenre of metal is avant-garde. And I listen to a lot of black metal and stoner doom/sludge type stuff these days.

Sounds about right to me. Even my best friend whose favorite band is Metallica admits they suck now. We were watching something on TV about Metallica at my cousin's house and the most painful moment, I think was when lars was screaming (not to be confused with any kind of agressive vocals with, you know, technique) into a mic as loud as he could for as long as he could in one breath. He fell to the floor curled up still screaming, looking as if he was about to eat the mic. They call that music these days. My friend seemed pretty depressed.

I just see whats dominant and where the main style lies.
Like the Black Metal elements of Agalloch are still Folky (I think, I've only listened to one album once and I'm just making assumptions... but I bet I'm right). Or they'll be more Folk than Black or something.

Sounds like the Some Kind of Monster film. Gayfacewhatshisname... Bob Rock goes "Just scream "Fuck" into the mic really loud" and he ends up looking like a twat. As most of that film shows him up as.

Melodeath.
Apologies for the double post but I ask the fans of these two bands; Muncipal Waste and Enslaved to recommend songs (or maybe a particularly good album)... or maybe even both if you're crazy like that.

well... even in the video they said it sucked and it wasn't what he was supposed to do... so they didn't use it in their song.
But just listen to their new album, it may not be Ride The Lightning, but it's an awesome record for thrash metal. I mean, just listen to it carefuly, what more could you expect from a thrash metal band? Nothing!
At 1/29/09 12:13 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: what more could you expect from a thrash metal band?
a talented drummer, decent vocals, audible bass, rawer production and sick riffs would be a nice start.
Death Magnetic was shit.
Really shit production.
Really shit riffs.
Really shit structures.
Fucking abortion.

I listen to way more metal than your pop garbage.

Elements of folk/doom, black metal and post-rock in their first album, more post-rock influence in the second, even more post-rock in the third.
I've never heard that before, I just naturally assumed it was typical black metal. What's Children of Bodom's typical genre then?
Bodom's early albums were pretty much power metal with death metal influences, maybe. Then they added thrash elements I think.

I still like it, and listen to it. Though there are many a horrible track (see 'All Nightmare Long + video'), i still think its a listenable album. Sure, its not the 80's like they promised, nor is it on par with it, but lets be thankful they didn't go all St. Anger on us again. And be happy they fucked that piece of shit Bob Rock off.

At my school, our newspaper class has a small little room called "The Pub," with about 8 computers that we use to do our articles and format the pages and whatnot. However, we have to share this room with the yearbook class, who uses it the period before. The yearbook class thinks there's some sort of rivalry, and have taken to writing somewhat snarky comments on our pictures we've hung up.
My friends and I are putting pentagrams and black metal pictures in the room for fun. We're using mainly Immortal promo pictures, because Immortal is hilarious.

I still like it as well. Sure, it's nothing compared to their first four albums, but after their last few albums, I was rather satisfied with the album, even though the sound production could have been much better.
Arch Enemy will come to Argentina. Fucking great.
WE WILL RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At 1/29/09 12:13 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: what more could you expect from a thrash metal band? Nothing!
To me, good thrash is early Kreator, early Overkill, early Annihilator, early Exodus, but perhaps best of all, Sodom.
I just gave Kalmah a listen, and holy fuck.
It's as boring as hell.
It's not bad, by any means. It just doesn't have any energy.
Whatever the fuck that means in a musical context.
Anyway, Death Magnetic.
I feel that it's an alright album musically. The riffs are good and the vocal performance is the best it has been in years. The solos are, naturally, drowned in wah, but otherwise acceptable. Lars is just 'there', and Rob isn't even 'there'.
I have one big gripe with it, though.
They can't play the songs live.
Like, at all.
The whole album is filled with fluke after fluke, like James' ending yell on All Nightmare Long or the last, double bass-filled chorus on That Was Just Your Life. Maybe it was just because they were going all out to redeem themselves after St. Anger, and after they did that, they could take it easy for a while.
Actually, they performed Blackened not after the album's release, and I had been blasting the fuck out of Lars for not playing the double bass parts live. Then, the first chorus in Blackened ends, and the fucking double bass comes out of nowhere.
I'd like to say he's still got it, but it was just that one song.
Anyway, back to Metal.
Well, better Metal.
I've been checking out Kiuas, and I like them. Pretty original and varied. Almost Progressive. Not something I'd listen to very often, but they make a nice break from the norm.
