I was just wondering if there is any real big Melodic Death Metal fan in here?

Cause everytime I post about Nightrage, Scar Symmetry, Profugus Mortis, Dark Tranquillity, Wintersun or any Melodic Death bands (except for Kalmah... cause you guys seems to like them a lot) my posts get ignored or go unoticed. I think that it's kind of sad, because it's basically my favorite metal sub genre.
I think that it just brings two different genres of metal together. With heavy riffs, heavy drum lines and bass lines, bands like Nightrage really know how to keep it very Death metalish. And that vocalist !!! Fucking sick !!! Probably the hardest kind of scream you can do. Before they never really did any clean vocals, but on the most recent album, some parts have clean vocals or harmonic of clean and scream vocals. Some people find that kind of music kind of metalcorish... but I really do not see it that way.

But you guys can see the difference by yourself

This is a track from their 2004 album, Descent into Chaos :
Being Nothing
and this is a track from their most recent album, I'm not quite sure about the date, but I think that it was released in 2007. This is from the album A New Disease Is Born :
Spiral

I think that it's bringing a really nice contrast in the music to mix some clean vocals and nice melodies with great heavy parts.
But their older stuff is really nice. The melodic parts and heavy parts are not separated, and that's probably the big difference between the two genres of melodic death metal.

Listenning to right now : Silence Calls The Storm by Quo Vadis

I quite like Melodic Death and those band listed are great.

But it's not something I can listen to very regularly as I find it gets a little boring. For me anyway.

I really prefer earlier Nightrage though, Sweet Vengeance is a terrific MDM album, that doesn't just steal straight from the Gothernburg Melodic Cook Book.
This song is a perfect example.

That song is pretty nice, but I like speedy riffs better, they are my favorite.
The two songs I have linked you to earlier are my favorite examples :)

But Nightrage is still one of my favorite MDM band.
Talking about this, I'm probably going to see Soilwork live in February :)

I really do not know this music, but I'd like to learn a little more about brutal death metal, so tell me... what is the name of the band Hour of Penance?
Cause there is an album named In The Absence Of Thruth, by a band named Isis.
So I'd like to know what's the band your talking about :)

Listenning to right now : Suffocate The Ignorant by Kronos

Thanks man! I've heard of all of those bands save the first three, but now that you've told me to get them I definitely will. Starting with Weedeater. Just cos of the name.

Oh and funnily enough, I just got Atheist's Piece of Time and Suffocation's Effigy of the Forgotten. Yes, ponos likes death metal. Ponos likes old death metal. Done very well. I now listen to 3 death metal bands, woo!

I was in HMV today and got Muse's Black Holes and Revelations (I'm fully aware they're not metal) and Opeth's Ghost Reveries for £10. I've heard that Ghost Reveries is one of Opeth's weakest albums, but I decided to get it anyway since there were no other Opeth albums that were part of the 2 for £10 deal.

As a raging Opeth fan, I will say this; Ghost Reveries is a weak album for Opeth. I enjoy it. I think It's awesome. They just simplified their sound. They did the same thing on Deliverance, but I think Deliverance is their weakest album. Ghost Reveries is very enjoyable. Watershed is better.

Ghost Reveries has some strong songs, Grand Conjuration, Ghosts of Perdition.
I've never actually listened to Deliverance but I've heard most of the album the various times I've seen em live and the songs never really struck me as amazing.

They never play The Moor live :(.

Still Life is fucking amazing. I love that song. My pick from that album will always be Face of Melinda though.

I'm starting to get into Orchid/Morningrise now. They're very hard to get into, 10 minute songs that change all the time.

I only have Ghost Reveries, and it's good, but I've never got into it too much...Reminds me of agalloch though.

Ghost Reveries does NOT remind me of Agalloch :(

Also, acquired Weedeater's "And Justice For Y'all", and It's fucking awesome. I had to download it 3 frickin times though. It was worth it.

I got High On Fire's debut album "The Art of Self-Defence", and for those who don't know, Matt Pike from sleep is the main guy behind it. And It's very Sleepy.

Seriously man, no need to get all defensive, if you post a band, you have to expect to get some opinions about them, even if they're negative.
