I'm going to skip the recent drama here. Anyway, I'm glad some of you approve their music. Mastodon evolved from a hardcore influenced sludge band to a more stoner metal oriented band with Blood Mountain. I really can't say that any of their albums are bad. Leviathan is a great album by the way, and the MA people are closed minded.

Exactly. He is screaming because it adds to the mood. And his albums only got better. Dunkelheit is a true masterpiece, and the distortion effect he uses on his voice sounds really awesome too.

Very true. A tight rhythm section is excellent, nothing wrong with that. But if they overshadow the melody, what's the point? The two should be ideally be equal, and failing that, melody should take precedence.

Also, teh aforementioned Primus makes use of the bass as the primary melodic instrument (not to say that it's melodic like melodeath, but melodic as it drives the melody along). Death From Above 1979 (not metal) also make use of the bass being the main instrument (the only actually).

The drum programming in that sounds alright. Because it's not in the background like in your song. You can hear it. I think there's also reverb on it. It's not a ticking sound either, there are no highs in the kick, and the snare's sound is mostly from mids. The guitar is easy to hear aswell. The vocals in my song are god fucking awful. But the reason their better then yours is because they aren't distorted, their all roughly at the same level, it's not overpowering anything. It's a big sound. Big drums, guitars and some vocals. Your sound was little drums, little guitars and overloud vocals. Fix it up and resubmitted it. And heed my fucking words.

I was watching The Lord Of The Rings : The Return Of The King sooner today... or yesterday might I say and I was thinking about all the metal bands who took their name from some stuff in the books. I think that there is a band named Isengard and one named Minas Tirith.
Some of you probably know that Burzum means "The Dark" in Mordor's Black Speach.
At some point of the movie, near the end, Frodo and Sam are entering Mordor and a little later in the movie, Aragorn clearly say that they will have to get through the Plateau of Gorgoroth to get to Mount Doom.

I was wondering why all those black metal bands were taking names like these. Most of those Norvegian bands base their lyrics and music on the Viking religions, and some of them on Satanism. And I think that it's kind of strange to give to your band a name of some place from a Fiction Novel when your actually trying to send a message about religions and serious stuff. Some bands are more oriented towards fantastic themes, so they are writting fictionnal stuff, and so that's making more sense for those bands to use that kind of name.

All thise stuff can probably be explained by the fact that, in general, metal fans or metal artists, also are fiction fans, but em... that's just a guess, I cannot really prove it. But maybe you guys have some opinion on this.

Back before everyone knew about LOTR it was a dark and awesome story about evil and war and stuff. The movies made those bands look kinda silly, but before the movies not everyone knew about what Burzum and Gorgoroth were, other than that they sounded evil.

I'm starting to get more into black metal, but Bathory is just not doing for me... I just can't seem to like that kind of music.

Just think about Varg, who killed Euronymus and burned down churches. Think about the band Mayhem, these guys made an album cover with a picture of "Dead" when he was... dead actually with a bullet in his head. When Euronymus found him... he didn't call the cops... he fucking went out to buy a camera so he could take photos. Also this guy was cutting himself with broken glass and stuff on live concerts. I know Mayhem are fucked up and that they aren't using any LOTR references in their music, but Varg used to be in Mayhem.

I also do not think that Viggo Mortensen ever killed someone in real life... and I do not believe that Tolkien was impaling sheeps and pigs heads in his room...
