Have you heard their collaboration with Sunn O))), 'Altar'.
Try it out, its brilliantly. Or at least listen to this.
Beautiful song. Not musicians... pah!

Altar was a pretty awesome collab. Boris are far more experimental with their sound than most drone metal bands.

I have an interest in making grindcore music and some drone tracks. I did some drum loops on fruity loops and modified some already existing songs in audacity. All sounds pretty shit, but I was wandering if the drum sound that berzerker use has a specific name or type, I really want this sound.

The sound is used practically all the way through Burnt. It's like they've modified some drum sound but i can't be sure.

In other news I bought the Acid Bath demo cd of Amazon for £5.68.

Cock joke! The only un-metal thing about me is 98 percent of my cd's aare burnt the other two Stormblast and Twlight of the thunder (which sadly I have to wait till winter solistic aka. Pagan x-mas to get says my girlfreind) are the only real albums I have.

You don't need to be a virtuoso to make Drone.

I could probably do it.

I think it's called 'turning the gain all the way up'.

Accuser, accuser,
Exhaustless fountain of poison divine,
I ate of Death to cleanse my flesh of God
To make me thy entrance to the veins of the world,

Now as we turn to seek thy face,
Pour down on us thy redeeming wrath,
For you will ascend into heaven,
And will exalt thy throne above God,
And you will sit also upon the Mount of the Congregation,
In the sides of North,

And you will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
And will be like the Most High,
Yet where you brought down to the sides of the pit,
Which we now must merge with the skies.

Opposer, opposer,
Core, marrow and essence of my Will,
I renounce this flesh in the name of thy praise,
To kindle the coals of Salvation's spring.
I drank of hell to cleanse my soul of God,
To reach the light in which thou dwellest,

Adversary, adversary,
Glorious slenderer and everything's adversary.
Whose blade alone split the tongues of the world,
Yet shall the highest of truths mark thy crown,
Now as we turn to seek thy face,
Pour down on us thy redeeming wrath

Drum kits tend not to have a gain control.

most members of drone bands are in multiple other bands, all of which are more traditional metal (usually doom). Furthermore, drone takes a lot more than just playing chords. All you're thinking, Ryan, is "Huh, these guys are just playing a chord." Well no shit, that's why it's drone. But you're not thinking about the musical integrity of the song; what feelings does it evoke? how does it evoke them? and if you say a smartass, hackneyed comment like "it makes me feel bored," know that you're not being clever by doing so. This includes saying the comment because I mentioned it.

Ryan, you have a nasty penchant for baselessly bashing bands, musicians, and entire genres that you actually know very little about. I have a feeling that you listen to about 30 seconds of a track and form all your opinions on it. For example, you say you hate black metal for years, but then you decided, out of the blue, that you liked it. Why? Because you actually listened to it. You had never given it a chance. If you give drone a chance, you will probably like it. You already like Boris (though i dunno whether you've listened to their noisy drone or their stoner rock stuff). I think, deep down, you have a good taste in music, you're just not trying to tap into it.

Listen to Earth, listen to Sunn O))), Boris, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, and as Nev said, Boris and Sunn O)))'s collaboration.

I'm supposed to listen to it, and feel good afterword, not think about what it makes me feel for hours on end.

'hackneyed'?

That's a new one. I think I'll write it down.

Guilty as charged.

Sunn O)))-Just plain shit, don't like them.
Boris-Awesome.
Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine-Pretty good, the guitar tone's shitty, and the tracks are unneccessarily long, but I guess those are givens. I would actually go as far as to call this 'epic'.
Boris and Sunn O)))'s collab-Judging by musical merits alone, shit be good. But it's not really my thing.

PWNT.

"all the way up" can mean a LOT of different things. The drummer from Berzerker is playing with a rim blast, and that means his sound incorporates a large amount of fundamental shell noise. If you've got any balls at all and do your own sampling, I would suggest taking a super sweet mic and sampling the sound of you striking a headless snare to get that "fundamental shell" noise, blending that with, say, the sound of a TIGHT aluminum snare or piccolo drum, and using that combination to get a sound LIKE his, but not necessarily what his triggers are using. If he's using triggers at all... I don't use them, and I can play fast as balls.

BTW, Subterranean Fecal Root is the best shit EVER. Their production sounds like shit, though. I actually kind of respect that about them; it proves they're not cheating and using drum machines.

They came through Glasgow recently. Fucking dole >:(

Also, I get to go see D12 and Jay-Z, yet I can't take my girl to go see Mayhem and The Berzerker, what's with that? :O

I remember an ex-friend of mine saying that it just sounded like "A man ranting over a drum machine". Pah! PAH! I say.

Hopefully with my first wage, I'll have enough money left over for a nice rare Throbbing Gristle record that I want and then maybe some Zweizz and Burzum.

The most obscure band at Huddersfield HMV is probably Candlemass. It's crap, a very small Metal section made up mainly of core and emo/punk stuff.
Blackpool's is bigger and better, but in terms of less known stuff its pretty poor.

I'm sorry, but if it can't be played live, it's shit. Music that only sounds like that in a studio compared to music that sounds good live is like the difference between watching porn and getting laid.

O))) is pronounced "Sunn" so no worries on that one. It just seems redundant to me to write Sunn O))). It's like writing "three (3)" or "% (percent)"
