Yes! quite!
I'd also like to recommend You Amorphis, not really similar, but I think you'll like it to bits.

also my project, Necrowhore, we're officially going insanely technical, I've been listening too much to decapitated!
Also, Is it just me, or Is the whole Catch Thirtythree album by meshuggah, just about 4 riffs over and over again?

Funny thing, we don't actually have the ball bins in Ireland. Not in any McDonald's I've been to at least.

They sound really unique, quite unlike anything I've ever heard.
It's just occured to me that I still have Black Metal listed on my 'Music Genres I Will Always Hate' list on <insert social networking site here>. But as I've now listened to Sigh, Bal-Sagoth, Behemoth and liked all of them, I think I might just remove it.

A quick wiki reveals that they're supposed to be Progressive Melodoom/Death. All I hear is slightly Progressive Symphonic Hard Rock.

I'd rather hear some Necrowhore on NG then.
Ponos, I don't feel like continuing this discussion. At all. I have made my point clear. Although I do have to say that Smeagol doesn't quite have the reputation to command anyone to leave. Nobody's being kicked, shit's over, move on.
So, there's a lot of rumors about the new Slipknot song being "death metal" with blastbeats, etc. I've decided to waste about 10 minutes of my life and downloaded the promo for the track "All Hope Is Gone". Well, while it is most definitely the most "metal" track of their career, it's not actually death metal or any similar style.
If anything, it sounds like modern metalcore with a few death metal tendencies thrown in (the blast-beat parts with the tremolo-picked riffs above them) and probably the worst vocalist on earth. Yeah, of course Corey Taylor still sucks major cock; and of course there's still a whole lot of their old sound in there, which can never be a good thing. I forgot to mention, there's even a solo in there and it's not even as shitty as I thought it would be. Not good, but tolerable.
There's a breakdown in the middle that copies about every modern Metalcore band and that shitty breakdown is used as an actual riff in the latter half of the song...
Well, overall - it still sucks major cock, albeit a bit less than before. Form your own opinion, my friends:

Haha, that had to be expected, right? :P Too bad that almost none of the people I know listen to anything beyond the heaviness of Nickelback...but when it comes to Slipknot, I should be thankful ^^

Meh, they're from Iowa, and either you hate them or you love them, thank God it's mostly hate around here. Nickleback is more annoying than Slipknot IMO.

Well, at least when it comes to Nickelback, every song sounds the same just with different lyrics on top, meaning they are so inoffensive that I don't even hear them when they are being played. Slipknot is too "harsh" to be overheard, which makes them more annoying to my ears :)

Yeah, but the repetitiveness is what kills me on the inside with Nickleback. I'd rather hear a lot of random shit than the same chord progression, same drums, and same vocals, but with different lyrics. I'd rather listen to Dragonforce over both of them though.

Fun fact: Nickelback, Creed, and Hinder are part of a secret conspiracy, and are, in fact, the same band.

Just hit that damn STOP button and the torment is over :)
I just dusted off "Thelema.6" by Behemoth. Forgot how good it was. Good times.
I read an article on the train on Monday about how this new album is Slipknot's coming of age album and how they've grown up... but it's not like they used to be 17 and are now more experienced. From my understanding they've always been fairly old. It's not like Blink where they used to sing about cocks and then started whining about death and stuff... or something, I didn't pay much attention to that part of their career.
Not sure what the point is... bad journalism I suppose.
Also, I think Earth is better than Sunn O))). Anyone agree?

Haha, this is priceless! :D
On the topic of doom metal, I have heard so much about Warning's "Watching from a Distance" (correct title?) but I have never checked them out yet. Doom is not my alltime favourite genre, but I like The Elysian Fields, Candlemass, Mourning Beloveth, old Paradise Lost and the Beseech debut - basically everything from Gothic/Doom to Doom/Black/Death if done tastefully. Will I like this album?
At 8/20/08 06:51 PM, Goatchrist wrote: Nobody in for some "br00tal death metal" Slipknot? :P
No and here's why:
Back a few weeks ago when I heard Slipknot's demo, I was surprised. You know why? Because it was metal, that's why. It was heavy, raw, no annoying cock-garbling vocals, tasteful drumming, no useless DJ or extra percussionists who only take up space.
I listened to AHIG and I thought to myself, "well this could be worse". It's true, it could. But their attempt at anything remotely brutal is laughable at best. Joey Jordinson (whatever his name is, the drummer), was in a grindcore/brutal death band called Anal Blast. They were actually undeniably metal. If Slipknot wanted to actually make an album "the world isn't ready for" then they should emulate something Anal Blast-like. Or better yet, emulate themselves. They're demo was metal, fuck, they should re-release it, or make an album in the vein of their first. I can't promise you it will be metal, but I'd be damned if it wasn't decent.
So in short: the new Shitnuts is still a cock monster, but not as bad. They should re-release their old demo (Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat for those interested), or make music in the vein of MFKR because it would work in their favor.
Here I am, bored with everything.
At 8/20/08 07:03 PM, Goatchrist wrote: Haha, this is priceless! :D
He also said that the lyrics are now more about "bitching about what's wrong in life."
lmfao. so it's basically the same thing.

Because it's drone, which is rather different then all the other genres of doom metal.
unrelated, thy light's suici.de.pression must be one of the best piano tracks I ever heard on a metal album.
