Well, I think you made a mistake there.
George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher - Cannibal Corpse
Thomas Gabriel "Warrior" Fischer - Celtic Frost
I agree with what you are saying though.

I do think so. obviously not purely doom, but the majority of their sound qualifies as doom.

Tru dat. Although I havent really played GH beyond playing it in blockbuster once.

I disagree. GH is fun to play if you have friends and you want to have fun and play some songs without having to spend years learning them on the actual instrument.
however, like any video game, if you take it too seriously it's lame. especially the people that actually practice the songs rather than practicing an actual instrument.
while i understand where you guys are coming from, saying that people who play GH should play a real guitar is like telling people who play call of duty to go join the army and actually fight.

Thats the only part that makes GH good. Otherwise it pisses me off when i hear a bunch of guys "Oh i finally managed to play </epic hard song here> lastnight."
"Oh, so you play guitar? What do you play?"
"Oh no i mean on GH."

Of course I see where you are coming from...

...but that's what most of the people I know seem to do with it. *Hey look, I can play that EXTREMELY HARD SONG!!! I'm like so cool!"

I didn't say that people should grab a guitar instead - I said that I WOULD.

"Atmospheric Folk/Dark Metal" - Metal-Archives.
But I do agree with you, I don't see much Doom in them, maybe a little influence though. The Folk, yes.
The Doom that I see in them is of Draconian, Swallow The Sun and Saturnus style, Melodeath Doom.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

Except, you know, learning to play guitar is a little less extreme than joining the army.
But yeah, playing it on easy is like taking a small hammer and whacking it in 3 different spots on a table until it's considered an accomplishment.
If I were to classify Agalloch I would call them post-doom. But labels aren't important.
Awesome albums acquired:
Acceleration - Age Of Silence
Arcturus - Sideshow Symphony
I never really looked into avant-garde before, never knew what i was missing out on :/

I ain't into avant-garde. I prefer my music to be a bit more musical.

What's not musical about avant-garde?

After listening to a bit of Arcturus, I found it a bit jarring and not really melodic, out there, and artistic I guess, but not very appealing.
In other news I've been checking out Porcupine Tree's older stuff. You can really only buy Fear of a Blank Planet here, but I just downloaded Deadwing and it's pretty good.
On the whole guitar hero topic i agree about how it may stop people from learning guitar.
I had friend (i moved away and i don't see him at all anymore, i think his name was eric..) and he could play the shit out of his guitar, he could nail the entire song "freebird" by lynyrd skynyrd, both guitar parts( i believe there's layers to that song...), anyway he discovered guitar hero, got obsessed, quit his lessons, and can't play shit.
I personally think the experience of an actual instrument is much more enjoyable, and u could end up as a guitarist for a career, but a band that plays with "rock band" instruments? Not gonna happen. Even if so it would all be cover music anyway.
Lol people taking video games a bit too seriously.... It's a bit of fun guys.
Bands i'm really starting to love:
New Katatonia
New Anathema
New Porcupine Tree (Havn't heard anything older than Deadwing yet though)
Woohoo for experimental/doom/prog rock! Anyone else liking this?
For Irishgun m(and anyone else who wants to see it.. i guess)

That's what I think. It's fun to play when you've got friends around and it's good to play some songs on GH rather than taking a lot of time to play them on real instruments. I haven't thought about getting a real instrument, so Gutiar Hero's good for me. :)
however, like any video game, if you take it too seriously it's lame. especially the people that actually practice the songs rather than practicing an actual instrument.
I tried to play a lot of songs on higher difficulty, but then I wanted to play on other games rather than playing on Guitar Hero all the time.

I wouldn't say deadwing is new, hahah. But it's very good. I've got his PT's first album, as well as the sky moves sideways and deadwing. All are good, but the first album is pretty out there. It doesn't really sound like anything else they've made.
