Is it just me or do christians always try to join in on what they used to protest? Like back in the day when rock was considered a path to hell but now theres like millions of gay christian rock bands. Also rap and metal seem to have the same thing.

it's possible that it hearkens back to the days when they would adopt holidays and certain traditions and practices of pagans to make them easier to convert.

it's a little hard to convert someone with christian rock though, because it all sucks.

Did you ever read the revolver issue that talked about how Christians stold basically everything from their holiday? Just more reasons to hate everything about them.

I didn't read the revolver issue. I do know, however, that Christmas is taken from the Nordic pagan winter solstice holiday Jul (Yule). For the winter solstice, my friends and I had a blot to celebrate (really, we just stayed up late playing video games and climbed a mountain at midnight and didn't get home until 3).

I'm not a christian, I'm an atheist but in this example here it seems to me you're blaming the wrongs of a few on the entire religion. Nowhere in the bible does it say that rock is devils music, so anyone who said it was were just making shit up frankly, and it's not them who then went on to form christian rock it was the generation after them. I don't see any hypocrisy there. It is kind of ironic though, I'll give you that.

Well we're stuck with shitty pretentious gospel and the overrated and cliche baroque hymns that haven't changed since 1200.

However I do agree that any Christian music blows balls. I don't like religion in secular stuff, like music. Also, overly satanic things are more ridiculous than offensive, so I'm more amused than offended most of the time. Nice try there black metal, but I can't take you seriously.

I feel the same. One of my favorite things about black metal is that it's just so over-the-top and ridiculous. I actually have difficulty fathoming that they could be 100% serious about it.

I know quite a few people that are. They view it as a lifestyle choice instead of just a music genre.

Yeah sometimes I find it weird how some people take black metal so seriously. I'm sure theres fans out there that just listen to black metal. I couldn't do that, Death metal gives me a break from it. Basically Black and Death metal are my favorite genre of metal.

I realize I am fucking late on this, but anyone who is a fan of doom must check out Reverend Bizarre's new and final album, So Long Suckers. This is one of the best dooom albums I have ever heard, and to me it also marks the death of true classic doom metal (which is kind of sad, really). Anyway, definitely pick it up, it will be worth your time.

How is it?

Metal is all about rebellion/non-conforming and having Christian beliefs behind it pretty much makes it hypocritical.

I'd rather listen to lyrics about people cutting their wrists rather than how much Jesus loves me.

Anyway, onto other business.

Unblack Metal has to be the stupidest title for a genre ever. Couldn't they have called it White Metal... or am I being too Final Fantasy?

Nah, I did think White Metal was the correct name for Christian Black Metal, but really, Black Metal with Christian lyrics? Doesn't sound right.

If they decided to fuck off with that protest bullshit, then I have nothing to complain about. I'm not against any religion, but those protests are a load of bollocks.

I usually tend to keep my mouth shut when some of you come up with this "argument" about black metal. For example, I don't like most Power Metal. There are many truly absurd bands in that genre with lyrics about fairy's, rabbits and lots of men without their manhood intact. So, do I lump all of them together? No, I don't because there are bands with good lyrics, a serious approach and stellar musicianship. There are bands who stray from the common stereotype and that's why I don't run around screaming "all power metal is gay".

So if you manage to take a look beyond your own nose, you might realize that the same thing applies to black metal. I thought you were that far already.

There is nothing wrong with that either. I don't take metal that serious, but if others do, who cares? Good thing for them.

I never said anything along the lines of, "lol all black metal sucks". I just said it's so over the top with the make-up and everything (which by the way, isn't threatening). That and you know I'm not a huge fan of black metal. I just don't like the trebly tremolo picked riffs so much and the shitty production on some black metal bands. Power metal is just as guilty as black metal is when it comes to absurdity, don't worry. While I'm at it, thrash isn't safe either. Look at bands like Municipal Waste who have that party attitude, which is again, ridiculous. Prog metal is also guilty of utter instrumental masturbation and sometimes over the top vocals.

In short, every genre is guilty of cliches

Not even the majority of bands wear make up/spikes, whatever.

That and you know I'm not a huge fan of black metal. I just don't like the trebly tremolo picked riffs so much and the shitty production on some black metal bands.

There are more than enough bands with neither the former nor the latter. As you said -"some".

In short, every genre is guilty of cliches

and neither is more confronted with them than black metal. It's just that, in this case, you always seem to rub in the most.

I already realized it, but it still doesn't mean I suddenly like black metal now.

Nobody was forcing you to like it. I was just trying to make my point.

On the other hand, I get pissed off easily at the moment, since a lot of bad shit is going on these days. Just a big load of crap. Oh well.

Yes, of course. Its stupid.
But the guitar tone for Sigh is very rough. And so is Jack Whites.

I know. But Ryan said that Sigh were a bunch of "amusical japanese guys." Amusical isn't a word, btw, the correct word is unmusical. But yeah i think the white stripes are good and they don't deserve nearly all the hate they get. A lot of people say that Jack is a shitty guitarist, but he's good. He has a good tone, and he can really shred in solos, he just doesn't solo very often.
