Alright, figured I should post here since I'm a fucking metalhead and I love visiting Newgrounds.

Name's Kris. If for some reason you know me from one of the other forums I frequent, feel free to PM me. Or even if you think you know me. Whatever.

Anyways, here's the rundown on some of the shit I listen to:

Aborted, Acid Bath, Agalloch, Alestorm, Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Arch Enemy, Atheist, Augury, Aurora Borealis, Bathory, Behemoth, Belphegor, Blind Guardian, Bolt Thrower, Borknagar, Brujeria, Brutus, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage, Cradle of Filth, Cryptopsy, Cynic, Danzig, Death, Decapitated, Decrepit Birth, Deeds of Flesh, Deicide, Demons & Wizards, Despised Icon, Disgorge, Dimmu Borgir, Dio, Disgorge, Dismember, Dissection, Dying Fetus, Emperor, Exhumed, Falconer, Fear Factory, Fleshcrawl, Gamma Ray, Goatwhore, God Dethroned, Gorerotted, Gorgoroth, GWAR, Hate Eternal, HatePlow, Hypocrisy, I, Iced Earth, Immolation, Immortal, Impaled, Intestinal Strangulation, Iron Maiden, Job for a Cowboy, Kataklysm, Krisiun, Leviathan, Lockup, Macabre, Malevolent Creation, Marduk, Mayhem, Megadeth, Metallica, Minibosses, Misery Index, Misfits, Mithras, Morbid Angel, Municipal Waste, My Dying Bride, Napalm Death, Nasum, Necrophagist, Nile, Obituary, Offspring, Old Man's Child, Opeth, Origin, Pantera, Phazm, Psycroptic, Rammstein, Satyricon, Sepultura, Severe Torture, Sigh, Skeletonwitch, Skinless, Slayer, Suffocation, Testament, Turisas, Type O Negative, Vader, Vehemence, Vile, Vital Remains, Xasthur and Zyklon.

I do not claim to be an expert on metal, but I do know that those are a few of the bands that I fucking love listening to, in addition to shitloads more that I am sure I'm missing.

If you find that you're into something I'm into, PM me! Ask me about a band or my opinion (if that matters) and I'll tell you what I think.

On a side note, I'm a metal DJ and I constantly get to listen to new and exciting metal. If you're wondering about a new album, chances are I've heard it and I can give you my two cents, again, if that's worth anything.

Cheers, hope you boys don't ream me too much for, y'know, being me.

I don't think you can anymore, I tried playing it again just before, it give me a message saying that the BETA weekend has ended.
I guess we'll just have to wait until it's released. (February it says, so hopefully it will.)

I'm not Ponos, and the Myspace isn't fake either - I just came here because I figured, y'know, I've been coming to NG for years now, but never really took the time to join and participate properly.

You guys can also check out my radio show's myspace page: Symphonies of Sickness

Right now I have interviews on the page with Johan from Amon Amarth, John from Dying Fetus, and everyone in Skeletonwitch. Check 'em out if you're interested.

Sorry, if this seems spammy. Didn't intend for it, but figured some metalheads might be interested.

At 1/12/08 10:30 PM, D3NTATUS wrote: Okay, that's just a bunch of bullshit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting lessons on an instrument. I don't give a fuck if you're a mod or not, but you're wrong. Sometimes people just can't learn by themselves, Mr. Virtuoso. I'm taking lessons on the clarinet and sax, that doesn't mean I'm stealing all my ability and technique from them. It's important to have someone show the ropes to a new player, otherwise they'll sound even worse. I'd be total shit on the sax/clarinet if it weren't for my teachers, especially my jazz sax. If it weren't for my teacher, I wouldn't know how to use all the jazz techniques I've learned about.

Hey, I once saw a band of young guys, maybe 17 or so who have learned how to play UBER fast from some teacher. Sweeps, rim blasts, the whole nine yards. THEY SOUNDED LIKE SHIT. Why? Not because they were out of sync. Not because they didn't know their shit. It was because they used techniques out of a book, instead of playing what the spirit of the music called for. There's a certain hypnotic state that's achieved in music, and it just can't be taught. I'm not against learning techniques, but I AM against aping someone better than you without understanding WHY they play like that. There are technically shitty bands that ROCK ASS because they understand this principle, and technically brilliant bands that should never be allowed on stage... EVER for this very reason.

I know what you're saying here, but the truth is is that blues is the blues scale and a chord change taking up a certain amount of bars.

I just remembered the right phrase for what I'm talking about. Some people say "metal by numbers" when they mention the problem I'm trying to convey. Formating and structure CAN be great, but when you get lost in it and forget what music is really all about (HAVING A FUCKING BLAST) that's when you cross the line into irrelevancy. I mean, if you do your homework, it doesn't take long to realize EVERTHING has been done before. Some of the greatest composers ever got bored and started doing atonal music, and some of it was really great because the spirit of the song called for atonality. The composers that copied them SUCKED and ruined atonal music because they just didn't get it.

So that's what's great about experimental, and that's why i listen to it. They say "fuck it" and basically eschew the general standard way of doing metal/blues/jazz/rock, whatever.

Agreed. And don't get all hung up on me being a mod. I'm not a big enough asshole to ban anyone for disagreeing with me; I was a regular user LONG before I got a golden aura.

========================================
=======

I played the New Daisy in Memphis yesterday. The terms were gay (battle of the bands) but overall it was pretty cool.

We did a great stageshow, where we fucked off the first two songs, then got all pissed and yanked Mitch out of the crowd. We had bags filled with fake blood and raw steak cut into strips like intestines, and a porkchop folded in half to look like a heart duct taped under his shirt. I whipped out my nine inch bone handled bowie, pinned him to the ground, and cut the guts out of him and ate some, then threw the wads of bloody meat into the crowd.

SHIT WAS EPIC.

Then I dragged mitch's limp body off stage and we finished the set FLAWLESSLY, as though the sacrifice gave us the power we needed to play our shit right. Mitch even layed their without moving 'till we were done, which freaked the crap out of this little kid who was watching.

"Daddy? Daddy... Daddy.. he's not moving Daddy... I'm scared.... what if the big man in the devil mask yanks ME out of the crowd? Daddy.... Daddy...."

I don't think that little girl is ever going to go to another metal show... EVER. She'll probably have nightmares for life.

All those faggots up there, with their shiny new equipment bought with their daddy's money, practicing their guitars in their squeaky clean bedrooms while looking up bullshit guitar tabs on the internet between games of gutiar hero and gears of war. All those pseudo poetic homos, breaking their hearts over lyrics even though you can't understand SHIT they're saying over the PA, drums and guitars. Not one of them would know REAL metal from a hole in their ass.

Man, I can't wait to play again... I have a feeling I'll be gigging the Rally Point again soon enough...

What bands of mine wouldn't you consider metal?

On a side note, anybody got some sweet concert experiences they'd like to share?

Best concert for me was President's Day, 2004, when Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Exhumed, and Vile played the Mason Jar in Phoenix.

Didn't have a ticket (because there was no online box office and I lived in Sierra Vista at the time), and when I got there the show was sold out. I was looking around for scalpers when out of the blue I see Jack Owen talking on his cell to his girlfriend. Ended up chatting with him, and he felt bad that I couldn't get in, so we waited until Vile finished playing, then let me in as if I were a guitar tech or something.

Long story short, AWESOME setlist, great guys, got a lot of merch signed, and it was indubitably THE show that made me want to pursue a career in music.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The production was amazing, man. Fake snow, pyro, a full light show, and a dueling guitar solo on platform that was raised up to the second story of the colosseum.

Fucking epic, and I look forward to the next time they're in town.

im glad for the change last year, i got scar symmetry instead of mendeed.... win

also now with kataklysm bloodstock is looking good the list of bands i will see are, At the gates, Opeth, Tyr and kataklysm, the rest i will decide how im feeling dimmu is a maybe, could be enjoyable. i dont want to see soilwork, i think moonsorrow wont really work live, helloween i find a bit boring imo, and by see i mean be at the front for, i want to catch something this year again, last year i caught a Head On CD which was quite cool, and a ton of In Flames pick's, my mate got a load of picks from other bands as well.

this year we are gonna take some proper food, last year we basically just had nutrigrain bars and they make your shit come out like chocolate moose and have no real nutritional value, and also getting up later rather then getting up at like 10am after getting to bed at around 3am which means you end up going to bed earlier the next evening and miss out on merry making.

got some new albums

Einherjer - Dragons of the North
Einherjer - Odin Owns Ye All
Einherjer - Blot
Finntroll - Jaktens Tid
Agent Steel - Order of the Illuminati
Axenstar - Far From Heaven
Axenstar - Perpetual Twilight

Now I just have to get Norwegian Native Art and my Einherjer collection will be complete (strictly speaking of full length studio albums).

Sadly, I discovered that I don't like Axenstar nearly as much as I used to. A lot of the power metal I used to like bores me now. Sonata Arctica, Avantasia, Axenstar, Steel Attack, and probably others. It's not that I dislike them. I just can't enjoy them anymore. There are still a couple I like, though, like Angra, Symphony X, Zandelle, and Blind Guardian.

Some of these bands need to learn a new fucking drum beat. The percussion is the same in a lot of power metal songs.
doo doo tcsh doo doo doo tsch doo doo doo tcsh doo doo doo tsch

So, I still like power, but I'm picky with it.

I can tell you that the Agent Steel and Finntroll album are fucking awesome, Jaktens Tid in particular is jam-worthy on any occasion.

I recently got hold of the new Alestorm, Saviours, Gamma Ray, Annihilator, Disfear, and Birds of Prey albums. For the most part, good stuff. Alestorm, Birds of Prey and Gamma Ray are fucking awesome. Haven't had a chance to give Saviours and Disfear a proper listen yet, but I like what I hear.
