Your friend isn't wrong though, you really can't go wrong with Borknagar in my opinion. I'd say the first one's to check out would be The Olden Domain, Empiricism, and then Quintessence in whatever order. Having three different singer's on each record definitely gives each their own vibe so it's up in the air which one you could like more.

Once you've got those three listened too I suppose you could listen to the other albums though Epic and The Archaic Course seemed kind of weak to me even though they're still great albums. I've only heard bit's and pieces of the self titled and Origin so I won't speak on those.
