I think the team that wins out of Dallas and Vancouver can make it to the finals quite easliy, as none of the remaining teams play with a style like either the Stars or the Canucks.

Matchups, with my predictions

Detroit Vs Dallas - Wings
Anaheim Vs San Jose - Ducks

lulwut?

Well I think that the Ducks could prolly take on the Canucks, but the Stars they would have a bit of trouble with. I still think they would come out on top though. I think their challenge would be with the Sharks. Then again, that would be one hell of a series with the rivalry and all.

Jersey is a pure defensive team and I very much doubt they can handle the complete package of the Sens. In order for them to win, Brody will have to either play the best of his life or Cam Janssen better start breaking the necks of each talented player.

So, how much do you enjoy beating off to Heatley & Alfie at game time?

Just a note -

Van and Dallas are the two worst teams in the west. They're far too slow to handle any of the other team, and it should be considered cruel and unusual punishment that we have to sit through their sleep inducing games.

I have to say I'm cheering for van tonight.

Van wins, ducks get them.

Dallas wins, ducks get the DUN DUN SHARKS.

Also, that sets up an intering situation, because the Ducks may end up facing vancouver, a team with fewer points than the sharks, who would then play the wings.
The wacky seeding may actually serve up the wings a harder second round opponent than a team(Ducks) that finished behind them in the standings. Hooray NHL!

The decision which New York Islanders GM Garth Snow and owner Charles Wang make this summer about captain Alexei Yashin, their highest-paid player, with four years remaining on his contract, will determine how many members of a free-agent class headlined by heartbeat forwards Ryan Smyth and Jason Blake will return next season.

Yashin, who totaled zero points and was temporarily demoted to the fourth line in the five-game loss to the Buffalo Sabres, is owed $26.45 million through 2010-11.

A two-thirds buyout would cost $17.63 million spread out on the salary cap over eight years.

You could be right Twerpo but he pulled off some sweet saves tonight. Trading Bertuzzi for Luongo is the best move the club has made in years. Can't wait for the next round. :-)

I just get one of those feelings that the Ducks won't be able to handle the Canucks. I think the twins will be able to cause an upset here, backing up Luongo's heroics of the first series

Yashin = overpaid. I said the same about Jagr when he was in Washington, but now he's with the Rangers, he's being paid what he deserves

Not that I'm bitter, but Roberto Luongo should be wearing an Avs jersey and guiding us to the cup :'(

Two overly conservative completely non-offensive teams handing out shutouts in the playoffs? What a fucking snooze-fest.

i enjoyed those games. The goaltending was fucking amazing. What a game yesterday!

My Matchups

EAST

New Jersey vs. Ottawa - Ottawa will finally get their revenge and make their way to the conference finals.

All NewJersey has is Martin Broduer and their 1st line + Zack Parise.
Ottawa has goaltending, and 4 lines that can play against anyone. all lines are an offensive threat, and Ottawas defense has picked up.

Buffalo vs. New York - Buffalo will win in under 7 games.

New York is hot, but Jagr and Lunqvist cannot contain the high flying Sabres. Sabres are a dangerous threat no matter whos on. New york has their 1st line, and their other lines get in on the action every now and then. But it wont be enough,

WEST

Anaheim vs. Vancouver - The first few games will be tough for Vancouver due to the long series with Dallas (which was the best ever! i feel bad for turco tho...) but once Vancouver gets their stride, they will dominate.

Vancouver has the Sedin twins, Naslund and Luongo. They are a very defensive team with an offensive spark. Some may argue because of the lack of production in their last series, however that was due to 2 defensive teams with amazing goalies playing the same way.

Anaheim is a bigger team, but vancouver is more disciplined,
They have offensive punch, but will it be enough to get by Vancouvers amazing lock down defensive play?

Detroit vs. San Jose - I think that there will be an upset and San jose will beat the Detroit redwings.

Hasek's an old shit that gets lucky because players shoot the puck right at him.

yes i hate hasek because hes a pussy (think ottawa)

San Jose has decent goaltending and arguably one of the best play makers in the world - Joe Thornton.
Detroit has a good offense and great defense but i believe that San Jose's play will be better then Detroits.

San Jose in 7.

comments?

GO OTTAWA!

Ottawa and Vancouver in the Finals!

Finally, someone who shares my opinion that it was a great series to watch!

I'll grant you, New Jersey is somewhat limited, but they always seem to bring something else to the table come playoff time. That, coupled with Ottawa's playoff form over recent years, makes me think that the devils are capable of outlasting the Sens for at least another year.

Well, you're overlooking Shanahan, which I wouldn't reccomend any opponent does. They have what it takes to overcome the Sabres, but they will need fortune. I think the Sabres can win this mexican standoff of the second round. This one is the most likely to reach 7 games.

WEST

Vancouver is capable of big scores. Granted they only averaged 2.7 goals per game in the regular season, but to ignore their big players like the Sedins and Markus Naslund would be mad.

Anaheim averaged 3.1 goals per game in the regular season, which isn't that much more, but their goaltending is far less stable than Vancouver's. Granted, this is Luongo's first taste of playoff hockey, as he never got that far with the Panthers. Bryzgalov and Giguere have so far shared the duties, while Luongo has carried the Canucks past the Stars, with a .950 save percentage and only 12 goals conceeded in 7 games, for a 1.41 GAA. That's obscene, since he's made 228 saves already.

Anaheim is a bigger team, but vancouver is more disciplined,
They have offensive punch, but will it be enough to get by Vancouvers amazing lock down defensive play?

I don't think Anaheim will be able to break through the man-mountain of Luongo, unless they get off to a really good start. They need to capitalise on home ice advantage.

Detroit vs. San Jose - I think that there will be an upset and San jose will beat the Detroit redwings.

Wow, that would be a nice upset. As an Avs fan, I've never really liked the Wings, but I dilike them even more, as Steve Yzerman has retired now. Could be tight, but I still think the wings will prevail.

Wings will destroy the Sharks...

Sharks has a lot of talent, they don't play a hard game like the Flames. Detroit responds much better against skills. They are younger and faster than ever...
Probably the last year of Hasek and Chelios they know it's their last shot.

They don't loose very often at home 41 games played, 4 lost in regular times... it speaks for it-self. They'll win 3 at home and still one in San Jose; I put my bet on the Wings in 5!

I just want to say MY predictions:

Anaheim vs. Vancouver:
I would like to say that this one will come down to the wire. Both teams have got great defense, not to mention great goal tending . Giguere (sorry if mispelled) for Aneheim and Luongo for Vancouver. Although these teams already started to battle, I'd say it will be Vancouver in 7 again.

New Jersey vs. Ottawa:
No doubt I would want Ottawa to win, because they're Canadian. But with the likes of great goal tending (once again), Brodeur will steal the show. But Heatly and Alfredsson will be a challenge to the Devils, seeing as one has scored 50 goals (Heatly). A long battle will ensue, but (un)fortunately the Senators will be sent packing in 6 games. Devils in 6.

Detroit vs. San Jose:
I wish in this one that San Jose fans will boo at Bertuzzi just like the Flames fans did. But it didn't work. Anyway, Joe Thorton will knock the other veteran's socks off and show Chelios that the game should be left to the young. Dominik Hasek should realise this too. The Sharks will bite the aging Red Wings back home four games to one. Sharks in 5.

Buffalo vs. New york:
Doesn't it get you irritated that we've not called this one "a somewhat battle of New York"? I mean, Buffalo is part of the state too. Back to the game, even though the Rangers felt proud sweeping a team that just appeared in the playoffs for the first time (Atlanta), don't underestimate the Sabres won't do the same thing. But Nylander will rack up more points and Miller will be cross. I say the Rangers will fall to the head smash of the Buffalo. Sabres in 5.

And there, I'm finally done. If you want to say anything about this, say it now.
