Damn, we've lost a good player there. I hope we can get someone to step into the breach to replace him.

Yesterday, we signed Darcy Tucker to a 2 year contract. My first reaction - BUST! Never really been a fan of Darcy and why would we want players that Toronto don't want?

The Capitals signed G Jose Theodore to a two-year contract. Theodore, 31, became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after playing out a three-year, $16 million contract. The Avalanche replaced Theodore by signing G Andrew Raycroft to a one-year deal worth an undisclosed sum.

I think Raycroft has got decent potential, as he wasn't too bad for the Bruins and he managed to win 37 games with the Leafs in one season. Maybe he's got a chance with us. I'm somewhat surprised about the goalie merry-go-round this year, as I never saw it coming.

Granted, Chicago did need a goalie to shore up where Khabibulin and Lalime had been doing a half-decent job. They've got a good young core of players and the addition of Huet probably makes them into a contender.

Losing Theodore does free up some cap space for us, but if we've spent all of that on Darcy Tucker, FUCK YOU WASHINGTON!

More recently, the Avalanche solidified their blueline by re-signing JM Liles and Adam Foote to contracts. The Leafs also signed D Jeff Finger from the Avalanche to a 4-year deal worth $3.5 million a season.

Liles and Foote are the only two bright sparks on the Blue line from last year for the Avs. Losing Jeff Finger isn't so bad. Just need to see how the replacement corps can step up and play.

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Steve Bernier from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2010 and a third-round pick in 2009.

Dan Boyle has waived his no-trade clause and has agreed to a trade to the San Jose Sharks. In return for the 31-year-old defenseman, it is believed Tampa will receive a package that will include 23-year-old defenseman Matt Carle, a first-round draft pick, a prospect and a 4th-round pick. Sources say defenseman Brad Lukowich is also part of the deal going to San Jose.

Yeah, but it's a like-for-like trade. They're getting rid of a former captain of some other team (Jagr) to replace him with someone who still cares about playing hockey. Smart move (for once) in New York

I like how his agent played it up, like "OH YEAH WELL THE ISLES WANTED HIM BACK". Snow bitched him out on that one later on.

Also, Kevin Lowe just laid the verbal smackdown on Burke. Makin' Burke suck it, ftw.

Flyers signed Aaron Asham, as though they needed more fighters in their lineup. Hopefully he won't accidentally crush J-Loops too.

Everyone's favorite native of Bratislava, Jaroslav Halak, re-signs with the Habs for two years

For some reason Mark Recchi won't retire yet, so he signed with Tampa. Brandon Bochenski gets a two-year deal with Tampa (and their AHL affiliate). Then they brought Evgeny Artyukhin back from Russia on a multi-year deal. Got enough forwards yet, Barry?

Tampa have really gone all out to get themselves started early this season. Could be interesting to watch.

So with all the talent from the Western Conference now concentrated mostly in Detroit and the talent for the East concentrated mostly in Tampa, are we thinking they won't get far in the playoffs?

Witt gets a two-year, $6 million extension with the Isles.

Meanwhile, the blackest man in hockey pulled a Wade Dub and agreed to a contract in the Russian Continental League. The deal is reportedly worth $2 million plus bonuses.

I'm surprised no one has signed Jason Williams yet, or for that matter Marek Svatos. Several other solid guys still out there, including Pavol Demitra, Dick Tarnstrom, David Vyborny, Johan Holmqvist, Ladislav Nagy, Bryan Smolinski, Sergei Brylin, Marek Malik, Trevor Linden (?), and of course Mats Sundin.

I thought that Svatos was an arbitration case...

If he is a free agent, maybe people aren't going to go after him so hotly, due to his torn ACL - they might get a better deal if they can wait a month or so for his services.

Svatos is an RFA, but nonetheless I would assume that a team would make a play at him. I mean, they're making plays at Bernier...

So apparently Kris Draper's little girl took a shit in the Stanley Cup.

But wait, it gets better.

Not only did she shit in it, but once they cleaned it out, he drank from the cup.

"A week after we won it, I had my newborn daughter in there and she pooped in the Cup," said Draper. "That was something. We had a pretty good laugh.

"It was, well, clean it out. I still drank out of it that night, so no worries."

the flames have absolutely no second line. Last year it was the iginla line dominating the opposition, the second (tangs) line breaking even, and the bottom six getting destroyed. Camm might equal Tanguay's production as far as offense goes, but Alex Tanguay was a vastly underrated defensive presence and the flames' goals against numbers will reflect it this year.

Then again, Kipper might decide he wants to earn his ridiculous contract, in which case that all becomes a non-issue.

Chelios - good player, ageless. Some of the best players in the league never win the cup.

I don't really see a massive contribution involved in a cup win from a player that scored a game winning goal for a team that ran away with the president's trophy. Shrug.

Sundin saga goes on. I hope he retires, just because of how hilarious it'd be.

That's as meaningful as giving credit to the guy who takes a penalty that leads to the team scoring a short handed goal and turning the game around on that play :P

It will certainly be interesting to see where he ends up.
