Reviews for "The Big Fat Tutorial"

Very nice job

Very cool indeed. And a helpful piece to boot. :)

Helbereth responds:

*slicks hair back* cool?... yeah... I'm cool.

*trips over his own feet*

I meant to do that!

Thanks for the review!

Useful for even pros

Very very useful. i just started making flash movies and i found this tutorial the greatest i have ever seen. for all thoses starters i suggest looking at this

Helbereth responds:

Thanks. I'm not a pro, but I've learned a lot. Share the knowledge, I always say.

Thanks for the review!

Pure awesome!

This is so far the most immersive and beautifully-done Flash tutorial I've seen yet. I especially liked funding out how to do the 3-D environments. Thanks, man, you've helped me kick my skillz up a notch!

Helbereth responds:

Well, thanks, I did try to make it easy to get into. The 3D thing is really an old trick that I just incorporated into flash (quite easily, I might add). I think it's been done by several people in flash before, but nobody ever really went over it.

I hope it does help you, and I thank you for the great review!

This tutorials is HELPFUL (Rare on NG)

You have made a great tut, but I cannot get the cam to work right

Symbol=camFrame, Layer=actions, Frame=1: Line 1: '{' expected
function camControl():Void {

Symbol=camFrame, Layer=actions, Frame=1: Line 9: Unexpected '}' encountered
}

^I get that message when testing, I dunno how to check wot AS im using. hope u can shed some light coz i wood love to use this technique.

thanks

Helbereth responds:

Well it's one of very few issues.

Either you copied the script wrong (which is mortifying, from what I hear.

You may need to change your publish settings to use AS 2.0 (only available in MX 2004 or later).

Or you put the script in the wrong part of the camera itself. Remember the camera movie clip has 4 layers... either one can have the script, really, but it has to be in the MC, not applied to it.

Those are the only 3 possible solutions I've encountered with people not being able to use the camera. Otherwise it works.

To this day this is my favorite flash tutorial. When I first started using flash this helped me a lot. So pretty much, thanks for teaching me the basics of flash way back when!
