Update on the pentalist's progress in the NG FanNet:

44. NG 2x10k+ PENTALIST gfoxcook 26 36

Unfortunately, I forgot to check the fannet page prior to midnight NG time, so the above 26/36 values are what I remember from like 20 hours ago (but at least the #44 is accurate)... If someone happened to notice different IN/OUT scores from later in the day, please don't hesitate to tell me. So anyway... we may or may not have broken the record again for the fifth straight week, I have no way of knowing. ;_; The IN votes for the past several weeks were: 27 24 22 18 16 17.

In any event, that's three straight weeks the PentaList has remained in the top 50/frontpage of the fannet. I thought for sure it wasn't going to happen this week, as it'd gotten down to around #49 by Thursday or Friday, but somehow it hung on thanks to your clicks! Good job, all who helped out... and feel free to immediately begin clicking the pentalist up the ranks right now. I certainly waited long enough to post the update--fannet is reset, all clicks are now counting towards the week that JUST started an hour ago. #;-}>

Anyway, I hope to follow up last weekend's fully-caught-up status with another full catch up today, so we'll see. But until then... ENJOY THE LIST UPDATE and the rest of your weekends, peoples!

More or less, yeah. There are some variations, mostly dealing with how you handle data that contains commas itself; the most common approach seems to be to put that data into double quotes. It's not immediately clear, though, how you're supposed to handle linebreaks in double quotes then - do you ignore their special meaning and just treat them like any another character (because you're in a double-quote), or do they take precedence and terminate the current line (thus probably causing a syntax error of sorts)? It really depends on whether you fundamentally view a CSV file as a bunch of lines or a stream of characters, I guess.

As for spaces, I think those are allowed just fine.

Well, linebreaks should act like spaces, then, IMO... As for data with commas, it should be FORBIDDEN. #;-}> Numbers don't need commas to break the 1000s apart, it just makes them easier to read when they're really long, but that kinda thing doesn't really matter in a CSV, I'd wager. Europeans use ,s instead of .s for decimals, though, and therein lies a slight issue...

I occasionally think about the users that are one deposit away from level nine. Can you imagine what goes through their minds when they see the point increment jump from fifty to almost one thousand? Aside from their heart stopping I bet one of the first thoughts they have is the system must be broken (lol). You have to be really determined nowadays to level up an account.

Many times they think "OMG, THIS IS A MISTAKE" and then go and post a panic-stricken thread on General or Wi/Ht? about how the exp system has a glitch. You know the type of thread I'm talking about. #;-}>

Understatement of the century! Blams and saves are the best (and easiest) way to get PentaListed and maintain your rank on the list. ** holds on to the number 3 spot with white knuckles **

Well, the ease of 10k blams makes 10k saves look like 10k reviews, in a way. #;-}>

But whether you have an easier time posting, reviewing, or saving (look at X, for an example of saving going along slower than the other two), blamming is fastest (if you do it... i.e. you aren't Toocool #;-}>).

If pentalisting matters that much to you, then yes, it makes sense to trade your saves for his reviews. You can easily pick up 10,000 saves again whereas 10,000 reviews is insanely hard.

OTOH, there's no way in hell I'd give up my 22222+ saves for just 10250ish reviews. Bad currency exchange rate there... I'm not sure I'd even want to trade 9390 saves for 9390 reviews (though that would give me exactly 10k reviews with my current 610 reviews). That's a whole lot of saves, and my #2 saverank would be toast. ;_;

BBS posts are easier to make for most people than reviews, because there's a conversational flow to BBS posting. Reviews do have the possibility for a response from the author, but only one time and one time only, and you can't reply back. And other reviewers can't reply. So discussion of reviews would have to be done via AIM and/or e-mail or whatever else, and thus not be tied in with NG directly (well, I suppose you could take it to the BBS... but then we're back to posts, eh?).

Meanwhile, posts have much more freedom, and thus are easier to make a ton of.

Unless you post huge amounts of text in each one, like say... me. Then again, my reviews tend to be long, as well. #;-}>

Now when the newbies visit the Wi/Ht? forum asking about levels (like I did when I first arrived) or blam/protect ranks, I can direct them to my sig instead of continuously typing out the formula (makes it easier for me). I should've done that a long time ago. I'm gonna try and add Newgrundling's whistle FAQ too.

Thats true, but I wouldn't trade even if ~X~ wanted to (which I'm sure he doesn't). Accounts are kind of a personal thing so it wouldn't mean much to me unless I earned them. A few months ago I wrote a review for a game (first one in ages) and the bloody thing was flagged (stolen submission). Put me off reviewing for a spell but I think I'll start up again.

That's a whole lot of saves, and my #2 saverank would be toast. ;_;

I wouldn't want to trade my account either. Our accounts have a lot of value to them... we put in all this time on newgrounds voting, reviewing, posting opinions.. and depositing everyday... trading it away is like throwing all of that away.

reviews and posts right now are the only stats that I need to even reach quad or penta listed. I'm not much of a poster.... and I don't like to spam.... reviews take a lot of patience and good criticism.

no, definitely not. .... When she's home, she blasts the television so when she's home I do not review. It's much more difficult to stay focused for writing reviews when a television is on...
