What do you mean, pop ups? Advertisements? If it's that, it's probably your computer, because the only advertising you have on NG Log is the shit spawned by your own computer.

Yeah, I put that one script in. If it registers your IP, you get auto-raped.

I think the admins are busy enough working on the redesign for now, and I'd rather keep it like that =P
I might drop a word later though, maybe. I'll just see.

Doesn't it run on a Mac? I'm sorry, but I don't have a Mac and I have no idea what I should to to make it compatible... =(

Well, I don't know if it's possible to make it compatible or not...

Thing is, Macs aren't made for opening ".exe" files. The file format generally used for program installation and such is ".dmg".

I just got a "Runtime error '9': Subscript out of range".

On a side note, I've also found that the program occasionally stops checking for new entries for no apparent reason - it's not related to my getting disconnected from my ISP or anything like that, at least.

Might be an idea to release a new version that keeps a debug log that I could send to you (for both problems). :)

Pfff... Again, I have no idea! It just shouldn't stop, because there's no reason! Oh programming is so exhausting, sometimes.

Just open a text file when the program starts and put info into it that you think will assist with debugging should a problem occur - in particular, write out info in the code paths that get taken when something goes wrong. (On a side note, always be sure to check for errors after operations that have a chance of not working.)

I'm not sure if VB allows you to install handlers that will get called when a runtime error occurs, but if it does, you could use those to dump the program's state upon errors, too.

Also, thanks for all the comments and help!

You're welcome! :)

Response to Introducing: Portal Guard! 2007-03-28 02:52:42

I just got the same "subscript out of range" error again. The circumstances were roughly like this at this point:

1) The program had stopped checking the portal last night; the last check shown is from 22:31:45 (it's now about 08:50).
2) I've reconnected to my ISP since then (which, among other things, means I got a new IP address).
3) I tried to manually start the periodic checks again by clicking on the "check for new entries" button.

Now if only I had an idea what actually causes the program to stop checking the portal...

Indeed I can't! I'd have to pull every single review page (read: billions of pages) every 15 seconds and I'd need a script to find abusiveness in reviews! So, maybe in another life.

I figured that out, but I just don't know about the error handler... I'll have to search for some tutorials on Google or something. That always helps me out.

I'll do it later, when I feel like.

Whew, another subscript error... The weird thing is, you're the only one who seems to report them. Which could also mean... It's your computer that causes them. I didn't have any other complaints about the program stopping the checks either, so I really can't do anything about it =(

Although, I thank you very much for all your reports =P

Could be that it's just me whose computer stops checking for some reason, but I think the subsequent subscript error is definitely your "fault". ;)

As for what you could do... well, investigate. :) Prepare a version that keeps a debug log of what it does with all the information you think you'll need; I'll run that one and send the log file to you, and you'll (hopefully) be able to figure out what's wrong and fix it. Then I'll try out the new version, and if things are still going wrong, I'll get another debug log to send you, and so on...

Although, I thank you very much for all your reports =P

You're welcome. :)

Again, that's not a bad idea, but I have no idea how I could detect errors. I'll have to investigate on the net a bit, and maybe ask a few people. I will TRY to include it in the next version (which will be at the redesign)...

Also, I could just make the debug logs send themselves... I think. I'll just see =)

That's kind of a problem, because of the fact that you have to be logged in to read your PMs. This makes that:

1. I need to be able to log in as you (via the program, that is).
2. Therefor, users need to give their password. Would you do that? Because I could easily steal it then. Of course, I wouldn't do that, but on the internet... You never know...
