Sorry for the wrong order of responses, but I'm lazy and you know it.

Good thinking, just in case Wade were to call the FBI.

As I said, I did and I thank Denvish for noticing me.

Watching the Portal page... THAT'S OLKOOL MAN! Seriously, nothing beats those long nights with tea and cookies you spend B/Ping all the time.

Great job though, Casualty. This is sure to help many young statwhores on their way to the top rank.

Which reminds me, I wonder if Afro will be using this? :P

Hahaha, that's kinda kill us all. But hey, if he wants to...

Good job Casualty, the force is strong in you.

Being a stat whore, I understand it and also <3

I hope the same doesn't happen to this.
It was on my suggestion that Casualty has put in the code to do the same, and I also suggested that he contact the admins to make sure they're OK with people using this program

And I thank you for that! I'm glad I can disable it in case it would hurt NG =P Thanks again.

This is awesome, way to go dude. :)

Thanks dude! Got any other good idea for another program, maybe? =P

Hahaha and something to sense if you have to vote high or low or what? Keep watching the movies for the movies people!

If you sit in front of your computer for 12 hours, it'd happen 2,880 times, so yeah, it probably would if you aren't on there the whole day =P But the notice only pops up if there are new entries, remember.

The thing is, I already have tons of notices sliding up on the bottom right: MSN, AIM, WinAmp, Gmail and GTalk. I kinda learned to ignore them, but that would be fatal with Portal Guard. Thanks for the the comments, anyway!

At 3/18/07 09:58 AM, Pog wrote: Vista compatible?

I have NO idea. But it probably is, and it's probably Win 98 compatible too.

I've got it to work now, thanks :). There was a weird glitch...

...if i moved the window just after it started, no error message, if i don't, it comes up with the "discontinued" error. Anyway, maybe something to check out :).

Seems to be working perfectly, very handy tool, nice and simple, although i think a better window screen would boost it a little. It less than .1% of my CPU, so it doesn't lag or anything :).

Out of interest, what was it made in?

Here's a bug I found: when your IP address changes while the program's running, it will silently stop working (i.e., stop checking the portal) until you manually click on the "Check the Portal" button once (after that, it will work on its own again).

If they disable it, then make it so that only your server pulls the HTML file and people can telnet in to your server on a special port and check for new submissions. This way seems to eliminate the bandwidth problem altogether.

This will make things much easier, especially during high bandwidth strains during the busy hours of NG.

Thank you very much for this neat piece of software.

Hmm, I have no clue on the way of solving that issue, but I think there aren't too many people changing their IP all the time, or are there? Thanks for posting about it, though.

I know, and I don't know why. Heh.

But yeah, it's pretty cool, it's actually motivating me to do b/p again. Not like e-stats matter, but w/e

You know you want those B/P points, so why refuse? =)

Actually, that will be the next step. liljim's idea was to make a script pull the Portal page every minute or so and then read from the server. Thanks for telling it again, though!

Not sure. I get disconnected by my ISP every 24 hours, and in fact, *all* ISPs in Germany do that - unless you get a "business" deal, of course, which is (naturally) aimed at companies and far too expensive for private individuals.

In any case, I can't really tell you how to fix it, either, but other programs manage to handle this just fine, so I suppose there must be some way to detect whether the computer's external IP has changed. :) Also, when you try to pull the portal on a non-existant interface, don't you get some sort of error that indicates that something went wrong?

I don't know about the IP thing, neither how to fix it. I'm really sorry, but this'll stay how it is for... always...
Also, if you pull the portal on a wrong interface or if the code changed, or anything similar, you just get 0 entries... I can't do anything about that either.

If you had trouble opening Portal Guard:

That means, if that one error always came up, telling you the project had been discontinued, download this setup file and install Portal Guard again. After uninstalling the old version, of course.

Also, you can now disable the pop up sound and I added a little thing that tells you if you should download a new version...

I hope it works this time. If it doesn't, I really don't know what to do...
