I really like the banner-at-random idea, BoM,, so everyone can have their own little "piece" of every month. Maybe you could have an actual submission form on the site? Nah, that'd be too crowded.

To Bez: I like the divider being in there, but the arrow isn't doing it for me...perhaps nix the tail on it and make it just a triangle? I'd also like to see some sort of outline color on it to make it look more "designed."

We use this thread for people to post banner pics specific to a month and then the header just randomly chooses a pic from that month.
That sounds good. Its better than everyone trying despriately to get a banner spot.

I like it a lot. Its definately more appealing with the unique icons.

1. Added "Associated Link" section...to see it in action, click the 1st AS Wars date. New additions will have the option.
2. Added in Bezman's new icons
3. Tweaked color scheme and link coloring a bit (I tried the recommended colors, but they weren't working for me)
4. Re-formatted the event details page to be a bit more organized looking
5. Tweaked the spacing and justification of events displayed on the calendar to (hopefully) make it look less cluttered.

We still need to decide what to do with the header (if anything).
Here are the options as they stand so far, please ring in with your opinion(s) on each:
A) Have day-specific headers. They'd be accepted from this thread and, once a day was taken, no one else could have it again until, maybe, the next year...maybe never...so 365 diff pics, a new one for each day. We'd probably have to appoint someone as judge to decide which pics get in, or else just take the first "honest" attempt.
B) Have month-specific headers following the same rules as the "day" idea above, except only 12 of them (possibly permanent, probably renewed every year)
C) Have day-specific headers that are randomly generated from the entire pool for a day. Every submitted header would then have an equal chance of appearing on its associated day. Days like Pico-day would probably have a ton, other days might not have any. Any days without art would show a default pic.
D) Month-specific headers generated randomly from a specific month's pool, similar to the idea for days above.
E) All people with birthdays in a month collaborate to design and submit a header for the month. I really don't want to try to organize this one, but if it's what everyone wants, then someone will have to step up to the plate and organize the people in the month to make sure that we actually get a header from each group.

(I have a feeling this is alittle OTT) Would it be possible to link the icons to a 'groups page', so you click a B-day cake - and you're at a page full of birthdays in upcoming order. You click on the flash symbol - and you get a list of the flash events coming up. You click things like christmas (where it has it's own icon), and you are sent to a 'holidays' page.
I have no idea if that's atall possible sorry, but if you could, then i'll give you a hand if you'd need it.

Will have another crack at it. The arrow does have a tiny outline, but only a 2 pixel low contrast thing.
I'll try putting some brighter ones one that. Or maybe I'll just make text buttons. Should be able to make a 'V' and 'X' to fit.

I just want to see more pictures. Strongly prefer A/C as I like the idea that we'll be practically guaranteed a new pic on the days when it's added. Random pics mean we may theoretically see alls of that month's pics on day 1. And why limit it to 12 when we're not wasting any trees?

What's the importance of putting up hundreds of pics that wont get seen? No one is going to be checking this site daily, it seems pointless.
I like the idea of poeple getting there picture up there to feel special and all that, but who is going to be here every day? As it is, it's not that type of thing.

You're probably right. Even I'm not gonna do that after it's stopped changing all the time. Probably once or maybe twice a week, if I'm in Glasgow.
I just like the idea that when I do go I'm almost guaranteed a new pic. And if each person is only allowed one slot, they're more likely to put effort into it. And having it show for just one day also kinda takes some of the pressure off and means we're fairly likely to get folk just submitting something, without feeling they're gonna be constantly judged for a whole month by what they submitted. I reckon we'd get a good number submitting interesting and/or appealing art.
People could maybe be a bit sillier.

Yeah, some sort of advanced search is a good idea, based on event icon(s)....I'm just trying to think of a good way to display the results, and where to put the options to run the search.
I have no idea if that's atall possible sorry, but if you could, then i'll give you a hand if you'd need it.
If you want to sketch up some ideas for where to access the search and how to display the results, I'd like to see it. :)

Well I was just imagining something like this. Not a search thing, but just 'groups' of events - birthdays, holidays etc. It would be like that link, but alot simpler as there's not all the stuff to include, just a picture and a list below. On the left where there's the links, that'd be links to other groups.

ok, but why don't we make it so people can mix and match which events people want to see, just in case they'd like to see birthdays AND winter holidays (for example)? I'm picturing a list of checkboxes with all the icons next to them and a go button that pulls in all the events corresponding to whatever's checked...also a date filter so you can specify a range of dates for which events u want to see (just in case you don't want to sift through a giant list). That way anyone can get a cross section of whatever they want for whatever time frame they want.
I'm imagining something that would be scaleable in case this thing ever had thousands of events for the year....or if it had been running for a few years and people wanted to look back on certain years and see what was crackin.

Try PM-ing him (stamper) to see if he'll send you the font...or if he'll at least make us some custom labels, I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping out with a project like this.

If you get the font 'FeaturedItem' it's very simillar to the current NG one and definetly close enough for little bits like this.
You'll have to have a tweak with it still to get all the inside gradients and that.
what font is it you need. I'll get it from them. Stampers been purposefully in cloak mode not sure his availability. Toms running a slave ship over there to get that site redesign done soon and i know they are swamped to the gills. Well thats what I heard :P

Not sure what the name of the font stamper uses in the header is, but if you can get it from him, we can make a little flash dealio to display the ever changing Month name and year at the top by embedding that font in it, which would be pretty darn cool.
