I'm not really thrilled, as well as quite a few other people I've seen, that he's trying to distance the company from the term. Nothing wrong with trying to make your product more appealing to a wider audience, but at the end of the day, you're putting on a wrestling show with wrestlers. Trying to change the name or the term doesn't give you more credibility with people who don't watch or the entertainment industry as a whole.
Welcome to Entertainia 28!
I know that every time I hear "sports entertainment" or "superstars" or "WWE universe", I die a little bit inside.

It's ridiculous and it's one of the major reasons no one takes him seriously. It'd be like Coca-Cola complaining that people identify them as a beverage company. I have never understood this deep seated need with them to be "more". They are the most successful people ever in their field, anybody would kill to be that. So you have critics, big deal. The new Pirates of the Carribean will probably be critically lambasted, and do you think Disney cares? Hell no! So long as they can laugh all the way to the bank. I don't know why Vince doesn't take the same attitude about his product.
Not to mention there's also the fact that they have NEVER succeeded in any meaningful way outside of their core business (and WWE films still borrows heavily from their core business, so I really wonder how much it's success, limited as it is, actually counts). What the hell makes them think they can now? It's just more silliness from Titan.
I think that the WWE did the right thing by letting Edge retain his gold at WM. As talented as ADR is, he is still too green to be given the World Heavyweight title at WM. In addition, Edge and Christian have just reunited. Yes, Christian will turn on Edge at one point and cost him the title, but backstabbing Edge at the past WM was a little bit too early. I am pretty sure that the turn will happen at Extreme Rules since the match is scheduled to be a ladder match. Edge is an expert of ladder matches, so the average fans will expect him to win. Then the turn will occur when it is least expected.
Well, haven't been on here in a while, but I just came now to tell you all how awful Wrestlemania was. I mean, come on, I thought Wrestlemania was supposed to be about the unbelievable moments, the tables, the ladders, the chairs, the blood, the action. All I saw was just an ordinary, boring show that I see all the time on the weekly shows.
For every match, I thought the match with Triple H and the Undertaker had got to have been the absolute worst. I thought snails could have gone faster than that match did, yet they did nothing special except one guy nailing his finishing move twice in a row just for the other guy to expectedly kick out. WWE never used to be this way, but now they are. And that was the match I was most excited to watch, but turned out to be the worst.
John Cena and The Miz was also retarded. These matches at Wrestlemania aren't supposed to have all this bullshit drama with dudes coming out, changing the rules, making decisions and interfering. It's supposed to be a straight-forward wrestling match, which is exactly what this match wasn't. If The Rock's not in this match, I don't give a flying fuck what The Rock has to say. Everything that happened is just stuff that I see every night on Raw.
The only moment that was Wrestlemania-like was Edge destroying Alberto Del Rio's car. But that obviously wasn't the greatest moment compared to others in the past.
Thoughts?

Triple H promised to do what Shawn couldn't. I guess he did, in a sense. I don't think Shawn ever had a match that boring/shitty.
Er, that I know of, anyway.
I am thinking that either Taker was selling it really well, or that he was genuinely hurt. I'M DUMB THAT WAY
Edge has indeed retired.
His promo was 100% shoot and real. He must retire due to medical reasons. There is no angle, storyline, none of it coming out of this.
One of my favorite of the current era, one of the unquestioned stars and innovators of the Attitude Era, has just left the building. I won't sully that by making any sort of larger comments on what that means to the company at large, other then to say what a void they now have to fill long-term.
Thank you so very very much Edge, no, no. Thank you very much Adam Copeland. For absolutely everything.
At 4/11/11 10:52 PM, bhsqad15 wrote: But who will take Edge's place? Christian?
I imagine the next World Champion will be Alberto Del Rio.
In terms of who becomes that top babyface on SD!? That one is a bit harder for me to say. As profoundly sad as I am to see Edge go, I can't deny this opens up a huge opportunity for somebody to really step up and try to fill that void.

THANK YOU, EDGE.

At first, I was shocked; then Edge began rattling off all of his injuries, and I remembered why I shouldn't be (plus the fact that he's up there in his years). I still wasn't expecting it to go down like this, though. We'll all miss ya here, man. You WILL be in next year's HoF, I'm certain.
Sin Cara............HOLY FUCK, that guy can do some crazyass stunts. He has my interest, alright.
"I PAID YOU GOOD MONEY!!!" So THAT'S why Swagger would ever bother training that idiot. Now Cole has no one to save his ass, and we can get a PROPER retribution match, hopefully.
Nexus isn't dead. Good. Still lacked Harris for some reason. Wonder what'll happen now, since I doubt Punk's still with them after having said they were just his pawns. Replacement leader again, or will either Otunga or Ryan (I doubt Hennig) nominate himself?
It was clear that promo was a Kong promo. Guess she won't be playing a mute this time around. I'm actually pretty excited to see her debut. Back when the TNA Knockouts division wasn't a joke, she always put on a hell of a match.
I have to admit, Truth was impressive tonight. At first, I wasn't paying much attention to the gauntlet match, but when he beat TWO guys in a row cleanly, my attention was caught. It'd be nice to see him get a true push.
Lol, Miz actually said "SuperCena"!
Glad they let Edge have a win at Wrestlemania before he left, I would had like it to be the top quality he and ADR could have produced, but I know it isn't their fault. Edge's promo was one of the best I've seen, and he will be missed.
Anyone else think that gauntlet matches are stupid? I don't mean this gauntlet match, even though the ending was dumb, I mean any gauntlet match. Had Cena won, which he was about to, I don't understand how that makes him worthy of being number one contender. You beat a guy who had already had two matches and won both, good for you.
I am a new terror born in death, a new superstition entering the unassailable fortress of forever. I am legend.
Thank you for all these years, Edge! I think that Christian is going to gain the most from Edge's retirement and become a World Champion. Do you think that Rey Mysterio would be a World Champion had Eddie stayed alive? I doubt it.
I was really, really hoping it was just an angle. Goddamn it. Edge was one of the first guys I got behind when I started watching wrestling. I wonder if he'll be sticking around for non-match stuff or moving on entirely.

Funny you should say that; last Friday I was watching how good he was doing on commentary, and thought that that would be a great post-career thing for him. Hope he considers it.

I think if they can find a role for him (and if they can't, they're insane) he'd stick around. Edge loves this business, this is not how he wanted things to end, it's not how ANY of us wanted this to end for him. He could still be a valuable asset in front of the camera, or behind the scenes, even though his physical in-ring days are done...it's still surreal to be typing that.
I'm sure we're going to get more about that sort of thing as the days and weeks role along. We know he's still on the road with the crew right now as he's advertised to hand over the title on Smackdown!. I would love for him to take a little time away, if they can help with this most recent issue medically, get that done, and then come back to whatever role the company has for him. If he doesn't want to walk away completely, they really shouldn't let him.
I see R-Truth as the guy taking the pin at Extreme Rules. Either so Miz keeps the belt and Cena can keep chasing him, or Cena pinning Truth so Miz can claim Cena never beat him to take the title.

I'd rather see JoMo taking Truth's spot, at least he can wrestle.

I think that was JoMo's spot.. but he's apparently in the doghouse backstage right now so he's missed the opportunity... but seriously.. R-Truth?.. cmon Ziggler should be in his place..
Edge retiring is sad.. but still, he's been in the WWE for over a decade.. pretty much won every title he could get.. also neck injury or no neck injury, considering his age (37), retirement was probably not too far away.. you cannot deny that he had one hell of a run in the WWE..
he's been one of the guys that just started in the WWE just as I started watching it, so this retirement is gonna stay in my memory forever.. Edge will be missed.
Though in light of his retirement, I'm really hoping Christian gets a shot in taking Edge's place as the top babyface on Smackdown.. he sure as hell deserves it and if I were Edge, I would really push management to do so.
Team Apple would be alot better if Mark Henry weren't on the team..
Sin Cara's debut was awesome.. I'm glad they gave him some decent time in the ring to show us what he's got.. also glad they gave him an opponent like Primo who can work with his lucha libre style, instead of some other jobber like Ted Dibiase or something.. not knocking on Ted, but Primo's style mixed very well with Sin Cara's.. WWE better not drop the ball on this guy, he looks good.. real good.
Also judging by WWE.com it seems he's staying on the RAW roster.. which to me seems weird as WWE prefers to put hispanic wrestlers on SD!
are we witnessing a 'Thwagger Fathe Turn"?... maybe at Extreme Rules..
JR and King are definately winning at ER.. management fucked up their match at Mania, so I'm predicting Swagger walks out on Cole during the tag match..
Man seeing one of the Bellas becoming divas champ just pisses me off.. here I was thinking they would be wiped out in the big firings spree that's coming soon but now giving them the title just crapped on those hopes.. also Eve turning heel? don't think she could pull it off.. or maybe it was her monthly red carpet ceremony.. women, they work so weird... bless them.
oh and Awesome Kong vignette.. bout friggin time
Knew I was forgetting something
Well Edge retired, what a night right?
Everything as good for the most part yesterday, i'm really glad to see Mayson Ryan back because he didnt get much of a chance to shine before. And hopefully their doing something with the Corre now.
Sin Cara had a good first match, I like how both wrestlers showed strength.
I would be excited for the ER match between Lawler and Cole but after wrestlemania im not getting my hopes up.
Maybe i'll actually care about the Divas now that they have an actual wrestler.
Punk wasn't on RAW.. With Edge gone, could this lead to Punk going back to the blue brand?
As for the Edge thing...Yeah, its legit. Hell, watch last week's SD and you'll see Edge holding his neck after spearing Brodus Clay. You could that he was really hurt.
Its a shame that it ended so sudden (AND WHY WAS NOT THE ENDING ON RAW!), but at least he got out of it before his health got any worse.
Still, thanks for everything, Mr.Copeland. For the crazy eyes, the 5 second poses, the Running Hugs (His spears still suck!!), all the great matches. In fact, thanks for everything.
Thank you Edge. Thank you for all the great memories and awesome matches. I'm sad to see you go, but if it means keeping you out of a wheelchair for the rest of your life then there is no fault on you for leaving now. Even as I type this I still can't believe it.
This definatly changes things for SD. Maybe Christian and Del Rio will be in the ladder match they originally planned. And while he can no longer be phisically involved there is always ways for Edge to be used on camera. They can always make him a GM at some point.
Sin Cara's debut was great. It also shows how underrated Primo is.
It's odd seeing R-Truth put in the main event. Then again he is far from the worst they could have used and at least it makes things a little different.

Seriously :( about Edge retiring. I was hoping so bad that he was just gonna all of a sudden smile and say "Fooled ya!" but his body language and reminiscing pretty much sealed it. He was one of the best people they had and I'm glad I got to see him wrestle again before this happened. Hopefully he comes back at some point in a non wrestling role.
Raw though, was different than all the ones prior to Mania and I liked the change after seeing tons of promos and the same feuds for so long. At least they're mixing it up.
APPLE was ok for a ONE TIME gimmick group but half of those guys need a change to Smackdown in the draft and I'm not talking about Santino or Henry. Bryan at least could go after the IC title and get very over in a feud with Wade/Corre that way.
Oh and cracks showing on the Corre before they've had their domination period on Smackdown? I hope that they drop the tension act right now because it's much too soon for that to be happening.
Sin Cara has a lot of crazy moves to say the least and looked good. That finishing move is pretty awesome too. (even though the first try was botched and it can't be used on the entire roster) But I thought he was supposed to be only on Smackdown. Wonder if they're just having him on both shows until the draft to build views for that Smackdown if he is exclusively there later on.
Awesome Kong: Never seen or heard of her prior to this, but everyone I've seen has been raving about her and that vignette pretty much showed she was there to take out all the pretty girls on the roster so we'll see how that is handled.
The gauntlet match doesn't seem to work as a concept for a #1 contenders match where everyone in it is a potential contender. I thought the main point was to see if one guy could go from start to finish to earn it, but I guess they'll do anything if they really want to show the match.
Oh good, Otunga and McGillicutty are back ._.
At least Welshtista makes them look legit. Punk would have also been there if he wasn't promoting the Europe tour. Anyways, Nexus isn't totally dead.
I would think that the main event at Extreme Rules would have been Morrison, Cena, and Miz if Morrison didn't act like an idiot over Wrestlemania. Him being beat by R Truth (after Truth already beat Ziggler) to take a title contention spot is as clear of a punishment as you can get.
On a last note, I doubt Truth is coming out of that match with the title, but I hope they try to build him up as a decent looking contender for it. The shoving match at the end was a bit unexpected but a welcome change.

SD! could use the star power sure...but I don't see them as terribly deficient on heels right now, especially since I don't really expect a Christian title reign. Sure Punk could be drafted and then turned, but to me he's always been a better asset as a heel (though I think even he underestimates his appeal as a face), I tend to like the idea of WWE building someone up into that role Edge has vacated vs. switching someone already established from RAW over to try and fill it.
Shawn Michaels is gone, Edge is now gone, Triple H is on his way out, Taker is on his way out, Jericho is doing great and won't be back anytime soon, who knows how well this thing with Rock will work out? WWE has got to really start planning for the future and considering the loss is on the Smackdown! side which is not as high profile as RAW (though still very important) I think this gives them an opportunity to really start looking at the ranks and seeing if there's somebody they want to move up and solidify. The future is now, and from tragedy sometimes triumph is born.
At 4/12/11 02:03 AM, Tetris wrote: But first I want to talk about R-Truth really quickly. Man, do I hate R-Truth. He's not ready for the main event, and being put over brighter stars like Ziggler and Morrison is a tragedy. He gets practically no reaction during matches, besides from the entrance which has gotten stale.
He's still a fan favorite, though, and, given his performance that night, it's clear he does have talent. Just as long as he doesn't ever screw up on what city they're in again, I think he's got a shot.
And what ever happened to Johny Curtis? Didn't him and Truth get a tag title shot, or are they waiting for everyone to forget about him so he can join the fucking Nexus.
I'd forgotten all about that. Huh.

Really? He isn't even 40 yet? Damn, those injuries must be worse than I thought......

No argument here. Sad to have to say it, but this might be the blessing-in-disguise that could finally get him that push he deserves.

I'd forgotten that Primo can actually wrestle. Frankly, after not having seen him in action for so long, I'm surprised he's still on the active roster. Sadly, when 'spring cleanin' comes around, I expect he'll be one of the ones to take a walk. Shame.
are we witnessing a 'Thwagger Fathe Turn"?... maybe at Extreme Rules..
Well, if the guy Swagger's been emulating all this time can be either a heel or face, than so can he. :P
No, seriously, I think Swagger could easily be a face. Clearly, his heel persona hasn't gone as swimmingly as management had hoped, so this can be a very good thing.
Man seeing one of the Bellas becoming divas champ just pisses me off.. here I was thinking they would be wiped out in the big firings spree that's coming soon but now giving them the title just crapped on those hopes..
For some unknown reason, WWE seems to have taken an interest in them. Not sure why, though.
also Eve turning heel? don't think she could pull it off.. or maybe it was her monthly red carpet ceremony.. women, they work so weird... bless them.
I have no idea how that's going to work. I personally don't see Eve as a heel working out too well.

Dammit, I wish I hadn't been reminded of that..... Luckily, he was so good that it was forgivable. Still sucks to have a botch on your DEBUT MATCH, though, of all things.

You're in for a treat, then. The only thing I hope is that they don't hold her back & allow her to actually show the WWE universe what she's made of.
Seriously, she can easily make a main event PPV Divas match - something that wasn't possible before, even with Beth Phoenix around (which is a shame, actually, and has me slightly worried that the above statement could go down the tubes).

It did work in Truth's favor, though.

I'm still a little annoyed that Harris seems to be out of the picture....
I think that Vince is too old to realize that he cannot rely on the old stars to carry the shows forever. Sadly, as long as he is still the chairman, I do not see too many young talents like Ziggler, Morrison and Barrett getting their shots at the main event level.

Like Christian ;_;
My picks would be to switch over Daniel Bryan and Morrison to Friday, turn Drew face/prepare him for a push, and then let them all go for it. (Morrison more so after he's out of the doghouse.) Not like the first two have any obligations right now on Raw.
If the WWE is going to crown Christian as the World Heavyweight Champion, at least make him earn it several months late instead of just giving the title to him at Extreme Rules.

I agree, too often WWE goes for the quick pop vs. the longer term investment that really makes the audience blow their load. If you make this into like an all consuming quest that culminates at say, Summerslam, then I think they can wind up making even more money then they would have by flipping the belt onto Christian immediately. The trick here is to give the people what they want sure...just not as quickly as they might want it.
