I worry about how good Taker will be. I suppose if he can work at the same level as he always has, but for shorter periods of time, then a tag match is perfect.
After watching the Breaking Point bout, I think a BOD reunion might be the best thing to do here. Kane is directionless at present, and there's a lot of feeling internally that's the best that Taker can do at this point in the ring. I don't think anybody wants to see Taker working at less then his best and with a big ol' spotlight on it. The man deserves better, so if he really is hurting that bad, team him back up with Kane. This also could give him a "one last title run" as he and Kane can etch their names into the list of Undisputed Tag Team Champions and be on both shows (this would be great for putting Taker on TV but not actually having him work as he can just do angles and be Kane's second in matches). I also think this could help them try to re-establish Kane and for whatever time Kane himself chooses to hang around this might be a "passing of the torch" to an extent as well.
We all need to just savour every Taker moment we get. Every so often, we say how much trouble the WWE are going to be in when the big names do retire, but fortunately, we've never really had to see that become a reality. It seems that Taker will be retiring sooner rather than later, however, and much sooner than I'd have hoped.
Much sooner then I think a lot of us had hoped. I mean really, let's think about this for a second: Come November, Taker will have been working in WWE for 19 years. In those 19 years he has ALWAYS been a top guy, and a featured performer. He has always been a draw and one of the most unique characters in WWE. An undisputed legend in his own time that is easily in the top 10 of most recognizable figures in wrestling. This is not a situation WWE wants to be in, but it is a stark reminder that the future is now and you can't afford to piss away opportunities to make new stars because guys from the attitude era and prior to it are reaching the end of their careers and they cannot be easily replaced. But on a more personal note, yeah, really trying to savor the flavor here, Taker is probably the biggest thing that hooked me into wrestling early on, and I don't think you're ever ready to let a performer that special to you go.
It's really quite sad that we may have seen the last truly great Undertaker match this past Wrestlemania, whilst it is quite fitting that he had it with HBK (and it was a classic). I guess I could see him maybe pulling out one last top class match to go out with a bang, but really, when you've put your body through so much for the wrestling business, maybe you should just rest it while you have the chance.
I would like to see Taker pull one more out of himself for that last great Mania bout, and as long as the rumors about where this angle with the screw job are heading aren't true, I think it could be done. I have heard the priority for WWE is to use Taker as sparingly as possible and protect the asset. But the way it sounds from all accounts, the countdown to the last Undetaker bout is on and any time he's in the ring could be "the last time Taker wrestles this guy" or "the last time Taker wrestles this match type".
I suppose it is quite speculative at this point. No one really knows how limited Taker is and will be going forward, but he sure has put his body through alot.
Indeed he has, and the surgery he had post Mania was said to be much bigger then we were told about and that is the principal reason he is so limited right now. We'll have to see what happens, in the end Taker is a very good soldier, he always has been a leader and a guy who's done what's good for the company and for business, but it may now be time for Taker to do that which is best for himself.
