Paul Burchill. Now, this guy got the pirate gimmick over, so who is to say he can't make this incest angle work?
It's the difference between silly, and disgusting. The pirate gimmick was silly, but Burchill made it work, and probably he was bolstered by the popularity of the Pirates Of The Carribbean movies making pirates cool again, and giving Burchill a bit of a template to help make that work. When Pierre Oullette did the same gimmick, with no movie (and admittedly, less skills on the stick and in the ring) it flopped.
This angle is just something that nobody wants to see. I mean, seriously. This reminds me of Billy and Chuck all over again, except where Billy and Chuck worked somewhat because most people won't admit their homophobic, there's an almost universal gag reflex when it comes to the idea of incest. There's almost no way to progress this angle really without it ending up with sickening segments like them kissing, or simulate sleeping together. At least they are trying to portray Burchill and Lea as a seriously evil duo, and not as comedy. That should give them a good opt out claus on this since if it isn't working they can just stop mentioning the "brother-sister" aspect, do a worked shoot or something to explain it away, and let them continue in the roles. But I just don't see this angle going anywhere good since this IS WWE were talking about here.
Anyone else notice how awesome the promos were tonight? I mean, Ric Flair never fails on the stick, but Kennedy and Cena were really good tonight too. Cenas was short, to the point, and drove home the fact that Orton screwed up and hes 100%. Kennedy, on the other hand, has really upped his mic work since starting against Flair. Hes acting more and more heelish rather than relying on his microphone summoning powers to get over. I'm digging it, and hopefully this program with Flair will end with him still on the rise despite the loss at No Way Out.
Cena needs to stop being pushed in the mold of Hulk Hogan, or the Rock, or somebody who talks on and on for 20 minutes. If they find Cena can do that, always make it work, then it's worth doing it of course. But just saying "Ok John, your the top babyface, and this is what the top babyface does" it's ridiculous because every performer is different. The use of Cena since his comeback has been really effective, the fired up ex champ gunning for what he never lost.
Flair can blow rings around Kennedy in terms of promos if he wanted to, so it's very wise of Kennedy to up his game, and do things differently then he has before. When the actual match comes, time to put those working boots on too. Kennedy may have lost his golden ticket, pre-ordained push to the top, but there's no reason he can't still break into the main events through good old fashioned hard work and excellent performances every time out.
Also, Santino is still awesome.
Yes, he should probably get another run as IC champ or something, that belt is doing nothing on Hardy, may as well turn Santino into the new HTM, and use the hilarious chicken shit heel he plays to better advantage.
Jeff vs Shawn was a very cool match. That said, I'm not sure it was an amazing all time classic like others have been saying, but it was enjoyable to watch and take a ride and watching Michaels try an play the heel without being a heel. Hardy getting the win wasn't as hot as I'd thought it'd be, but thats probably because it was taped and I knew the outcome.
I missed that, damn computer problems, I'm glad Jeff got that win though, after losing clean to Orton, he needed it.
I really miss the old Triple H. Clean shaven, flanked by Flair, and an absolute bastard of a heel. His chamber video package reminded me of that guy. I hope he turns heel soon. I wouldn't mind seeing him with the belt for a few months if he did.
I don't think the fans want to boo him now, and it seems like he's really enjoying being a babyface and making fun of his immediate family and all that happy stuff. I don't think they need to fall back on him as champion at this point though, I think it's time to try and keep the veterans into the pattern of "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" when it comes to main events. You have to build the future starting now.
Provided of course he feuds against Jeff.
I think that could be very good stuff.
