Cena won it?! God damn. 2 questions though...
Who did he eliminate to win it?
Triple H...
How far did Batista make it?
3rd, though he didn't exactly make himself known much and didn't last long against Cena and HHH, so its debatable whether he gained anything from that in my opinion.
Jokes on them, I'm not going to watch wrestlemania nore buy the Royal Rumble DVD because of that.
I probably wasn't anyway, even less so now.
So, a few opinions on all of that...
1) Why the fuck did they have to do nothing about Hornswoggle? I spent most of that praying he wasn't going to reappear at the end and win the bloody thing from nowhere, as technically he was never eliminated. They said Finlay was DQd (which isn't even possible- past rumbles had weapons and entrants running in before their time), but nothing on Horny.
2) Taker and Michaels went way too early. Fair enough don't let them win it, they don't need a push and have both won it before, but both went out in a complete damp squib half way through- blink and you'd hardly even have noticed!
3) A few others went way way too fast- Shelton Benjamin and Dreamer the most obvious.
4) The people left at the end... what the hell? There wasn't anyone there who really appealed as a winner, or had any real reason story line wise to be there. I'd have loved to see an outsider in there- especially Kennedy or Punk, pretty much the only two guys I enjoy watching these days, at least that were in the rumble. I can't believe how far Kennedy has slid down the pecking order in the last year (though at least he got some time in there).
5) Cena.... I don't know as much as a lot of the people who post in here, nor would I ever pretend to. Simply as a fan (more so in the past than now it must be said) this decision made no sense whatsoever. There is nothing more annoying, in entertainment OR sport, than one person being too dominant. Things like tennis and golf don't exactly get a choice in the matter, the WWE most certainly does. Cena never ever seems to lose- the second his music hit I was tempted to switch off, there was only ever one outcome from there. Doesn't the fan reaction tell them anything? He's supposed to be a face, yet he gets booed more than anyone I've ever seen in the ring. That isn't through lack of commitment, or talent (he's a hell of a lot better than the likes of Khali for example), but simply people are bored to death of seeing him win, again... and again... and again.
I could go on, but everyone's heard it all before...
In short the Rumble sucked- easily the worst I've ever watched. That may be because I watch less these days and don't get caught up in the story lines much, but I suspect not... shame, as the rumble has always been the best match of the year in my mind, and has so much potential to set up the months to Mania.
