Expect to see big pushes for CM Punk, Matt Hardy and Rob Van Dam. A lot has already been shown by Punk's role at WrestleMania and his good performance on the show. On Raw, you saw Matt Hardy become a champion again. And at WrestleMania, RVD gained a win because they want him to a part of WWE in the future. The company threw him a bone with the Mania win, basically letting him know that if he re-signed, they'd take care of him. No one knows what his plans are and the belief is that he's not 100 percent sure at this point.

I read this a while back and to be honest I don't know what to believe... I mean, listening to the fans is something that the WWE doesn't do often (See: Cena, John) so to see them doing this is unexpected. Unless they finally realized that if booked right all these men could actually make Vince money, and according to recent surveys, money is good... Or maybe they just don't want any of these guys to bolt for the competition when they get an opportunity so they're sucking up to them already.

I think they've begun to realize the worth of CM Punk as someone who is going to help carry the ECW brand into the future (since all indications are that WWE has no plans to shut it down), and Matt Hardy is a solid mid-carder. RVD has a lot of street cred with the hardcore fans, and WWE has never been able to totally kill him off, plus the last I heard was that RVD and the company weren't even talking about a new contract because RVD was supposed to be completely ready to leave because he hated how the ECW brand has been booked. It makes me wonder if perhaps WWE is changing ECW's direction a bit because a) They have realized what they were doing with it isn't working and b) They're hoping that by renewing focus in the Originals, and maybe throwing them an extreme rules match every once in awhile RVD might actually decide to stick around. RVD could do very well on the indies, and TNA can always use another solid hand (just not correctly apparently). It's an interesting story to follow, no doubt.

While watching SD, a question came to my mind. If Helms lost the CW title to Chavo, why in the hell is he teaming with him? I must have missed the explanation to this one because it doesn't make any damn sense to me.

You didn't miss anything, there was no explanation for it, apparently WWE is just that low on tag teams and the CW title matters that little that the former champ can team up with the guy who beat him rather then oh...I dunno...TRY TO WIN THE FUCKING THING BACK???!!!

Like I say, when WWE treats their titles this shittily, they shouldn't be surprised when fans don't care about them anymore.

That would have made some sense, and it would have been far better than the "lumber Jill" match that everyone seemed to hate.

The first match they had was in a dark match at mania, against Carlito and Flair. Flair and Carlito had somewhat of a fued not that long ago, where Flair was yelling at Carlito for not having passion. They later earned each others respect, maybe the same thing supposedly happened between Helms and Chavo.

But then how could they have fit all the video packages and commercials in?! You can't have a the biggest PPV of the year without those!!!!!

I had actually heard that even with only 8 matches Mania was RUNNING LONG at the first production run through of it...so they were considering cutting the ECW match or the Divas match...when you have an 8 match card set for a four hour show and you find that's running long, and your instant reaction is to cut matches and not recap packages of feuds we've ALREADY BOUGHT THE DAMN SHOW TO SEE CONCLUDE you really need to lose your job. But that's not going to happen in WWE since the head of creative addresses the boss as "Daddy"

Which always makes me mad in the fact they have one of the most uncreative people in charge of it, and the only reason she is there is beacuse of who she is related to.

I can understand Vince's desire to familiarize her with the creative process since she and Triple H will inherit the company someday, and because she thinks like dad creatively, but to me she just isn't very good at the job because I think she worries about the wrong kinds of stuff, and with the endless amount of meetings they have to tweek and change things, it really becomes easy to have what could have been a good show become a bad one because too many people are getting things changed to how THEY want it before it hits the airwaves.

Seriously the WWE has gotten so lame, there is nothing to look forward to.
The only thing that has been keeping me watching is what Batista has on the table and London and Kendrick. London and Kendrick are seriously the only "real" champs that actually show they want their titles.

There are a few that I have been keeping my eye on, like Carlito, Nitro, Miz, london/Kendrick, Helms, and The Hardys. These undercard guys have been keeping me tuned in more than some of the main event guys. I still like Taker and HBK has always been a guy I could root for as well as Edge, but I also like to root for the underdogs, and in this case, the undercard.

RKO vs HBK tonight for the No.1 contender. With the tradition of WM losers getting their rematches at Backlash, I see HBK going over. P.S: There is also a great chance (80%) that Edge will somehow make it a triple threat match at Backlash.

God forbid Carlito get a chance at a title, even if it would only be the tag titles.

They should just call the ecw title a TV title, he rarely defends it on ecw these days, and when he does defend it, it's never against someone on ecw, always someone from raw or smackdown.

Raw was pretty good tonight. The Orton and HBK match was really entertaining. So was the tag match between The Hardys and WGTT. Hopefully Matt and Jeff will be able to revive the tag titles.

He bitched about not getting on Mania, now he's gonna pay the price, it's as simple as that.

I love how the ECW Champion is feuding with the boss, his son, and a RAW guy...not a single guy from his own show involved. Yep, way to build that roster up Vince!

I'm just hoping that no McMahon wins it. That would be the definate deathblow to ECW. If they want Lashly on Raw so badly, they could have given the title to someone else.

The HBK/Orton match was the best of the night, even if the finish was screwy. Orton didn't even flinch when that final count was being made, so them saying he got a shoulder up is pushing it.

The Hardyz/WGTT match was also a good one. It just sucks that they have shafted Benjamin, he is a much better singles guy yet there he is going nowhere.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Shane winning the title.... At least we would get some nice bumps with him... But this is just another way to continue building up Lashley as the future of the WWE.

I blame Orton... Mostly because I don't like him and I find him overrated. It was stupid that its was a "double pin" when you know.... Not a single body part of ton was on top of Michaels... But then again, us fans are supposed to be stupid and obilvious at the things in front of us.

Speaking of stupid and oblivious, I kind of miss the days when I'd just started watching wrestling, when I was unaware of all the backstage politics and such. Back then I never knew what was going to happen, and I loved it.

Now that I know about the inner workings of the WWE...ugh, it's become rather predictable. Not to mention it ticks me off when talented people get held back for speaking their minds.

I still watch it because of a likely-flawed hope that one day this will turn around, but...I'm not holding my breath.

Love the wrestlers, not the business, I guess.

Punk is now a heel!!!! I just hope that the WWE allows Punk to cut a heel promo next week. It was pretty obvious he was goin to turn, Punk just doesn't fit with the Originals when you think about it... Also this.

Why, CM Punk, why?

That’s the question that ECW Diehards asked of the straightedge – or maybe now not-so-straightedge – Superstar after he shocked ECW tonight by joining the New Breed. The jaws of ECW fans at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. dropped in horror when Punk shook the hand of Elijah Burke and was hoisted atop the shoulders of the New Breed, sealing his new alliance with arrogant, young faction.

WWE.com caught up with Punk after he finished celebrating with new teammates Burke, Marcus Cor Von, Matt Striker and Kevin Thorn. The Chicago native was not very forthcoming in explaining his reasons for joining the New Breed, but promised that ECW would soon see the real CM Punk.

“I know some people aren’t going to be happy with my decision,” he said. “But, trust me, I have my reasons. Tonight is the first step in everyone finding out exactly who is CM Punk.”

Punk’s decision to join the New Breed is puzzling. At first, he told the New Breed he didn’t need their help. Then, Punk kept them – and all of ECW – guessing for weeks as he repeatedly said he would “think about it.” The New Breed, led by Elijah Burke, told Punk – particularly before his Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 23, where he narrowly missed winning the opportunity at a World Championship – that he belonged with them because he was the future of ECW, and they could help him achieve his dreams.

Time will tell whether the hungry Punk made the right choice.

I know Punk can pull this off, and it's definitely got me intrigued for next week, but unless they have some great storyline cooked up here, why turn a guy who is probably the top ECW merchandise seller, and is one of the only new stars they managed to get over as a face, it's a mistake to turn him. They have to have something really good cooking here that's going to really elevate Punk and freshen up the show, or this was just a bad idea. We should hopefully get some good Punk/RVD and Punk/Sabu matches out of it though.

I didn't get the whole punk joining the New Breed thing...
He just doesn't fit. When I saw Punk ready to fight Burke and Corvon, I was hoping they were going to fight. So what does this mean between the fued between the new breed and the originals? Do the originals have to pick up another member or two now? i'd like to see mankind join them. hah doubt that would happen.

in other news....

Is Snitsky liking Layla? I'm thinking there might be a "Beauty and the Beast" type storyline or something... they had these before. They're okay I guess... I mean the monster can't be a monster all the time. Sometimes the monster needs a break and maybe this is the time.

I'd like to see Kane become the ECW champion someday... I think he'd be perfect or at least contender worthy.

I don't see Lashley losing at Backlash... although i'd like to see him FINALLY lose.
Does this mean that Cena will finally lose since he'll be facing three other guys? hopefully!

At 4/11/07 12:21 AM, YoinK wrote: I didn't get the whole punk joining the New Breed thing...

Its actually a perfect fit.... Punk is a guy who doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs... The Originals consist of members who drink, smoke and do drugs. Makes perfect sense.

I don't see Lashley losing at Backlash... although i'd like to see him FINALLY lose.
Does this mean that Cena will finally lose since he'll be facing three other guys? hopefully!

I don't think neither of them will lose... Cena always "overcome the odds" and I'm guessing it won't be any different this time. And Lashley is being treated in a similar fashion as Cena (neither of them lose) so this will just be another way of shoving Bobby down our throats wheter we like it or not.

Another thing on Punk...If he does cut a heel promo next week, I'm hoping it goes something like this. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/C M%2BPunk/video/x1lfyy_punkpromo

And why isn't the ECW title defended on ECW anymore?

Because The Mcmahons want it, and they're obviously much more worthy then the jobbers in ECW! That's my problem with this storyline, there's no ECW guys involved trying to win the belt, there wasn't even an edict by Vince like "none of you fuckers are getting a shot till I say so" so it just comes off like WWE is saying that there's nobody on the roster worth giving a shot to. I'm hoping Backlash ends the Mcmahon crap and Lashley, and his title, will get inserted into the New Breed vs. Originals stuff.

So Punk is a heel now? Doesn't make much sense since he was certinly a rising star, but maybe it's just an excuse for them to have RVD/Punk matches.

Wouldn't that be the reason that Punk turned heel? I can see him leading the New Breed, and potentially interupting the title match at Backlash. They might even get Lashley the win, and try to convince him to join the New Breed. Then when he turns them down, we have a Lashley-CM Punk fued for the title.

Response to The Wrestling (WWE) Club 2007-04-11 22:16:47

Instead of calling it the ECW title... might as well call it The Bobby Lashley Title.
