LordKooler's Friday Night SmackDown! review
1.Finlay vs William Regal
A good match to start off Smackdown. Regal won by DQ when the Little Bastard got involved. Then Lashley came out and gave Regal the dominator.
2.Elijah Burke vs Scott Wright
Burke won the match by using the stroke and the rings of saturn. I'm not kidding, Burke actually used the finishers of Jeff Jarrett & Perry Saturn to win the match. After the match, Sylvester Terkay attacked Wright.
3.Ashley vs Kristal
2005 Diva Search winner vs 2005 Diva Search loser. Speaking of the diva search, Remember that segment from last year's diva search where the divas got pies thrown on their faces? They're doing it again. The next segment WWE should do for the Diva Search should be the Queen of the Road competition. Remember the King of the Road match between Dusty Rhodes & Barry Darsow from WCW Uncensored 1995? That was one of the worst matches of all time. The match took place on a moving semi trailor truck and the only way to win the match is by ringing a Cow Bell. Imagine if WWE were to use this match for a diva search segment. Ashley came out to the generic dance for 30 seconds diva search music. Kristal won at the end.
4.Sylvan vs Tatanka
Tatanka won at the end.
5.Batista vs Ken Kennedy
Batista won at the end. Then Batista said that Michael Cole can congratulate him when he wins back the World Heavyweight Championship.
6.Vito vs Brooklyn Brawler
Remember when Steve Lombardi became the Boston Brawler last year? That was actually a one time deal. It didn't last long. He's the Brooklyn Brawler again. Vito won at the end.
7.KC James & Idol Stevens vs Scotty 2 Hotty & Funaki
Michelle McCool called James & Stevens her Teacher pets. She's gonna manage them. James & Stevens won at the end.
8.Chavo Guerrero segment
Chavo cuts a promo on Mysterio and Chavo says that Rey stole the Guerrero name and blood and stole his spotlight. Then Chavo says that Rey used Edde Guerrero's name to help himself. Then Rey Mysterio came out and attacked Chavo. Then Vickie Guerrero comes out to seperate them. There are rumors that Vickie Guerrero will turn heel and side with Chavo. WWE should just leave Eddie alone. I'm sick of WWE for using his name in storylines.
9.King Booker vs Undertaker
Undertaker won by DQ when the Great Khali interfered. Undertaker will face Khali in a last man standing match at SummerSlam.

At 8/4/06 06:02 PM, DaveGrohl wrote: In ECW, they already have loads of main eventers, and quite a few people who would be viable for the ECW title now, or sometime in the future.

Absolutely, but right now those men have to be built. As I've said before, when you look at the new ECW, you have to look at it from the perspective that while our fanbase was always bigger then anyone would credit us with (because then they'd have to admit how influenced they were, and how much they stole and continue to steal), we were still no where near as big as it can get now. WWE is wisely proceeding as though the fans don't know many of the faces in the company, and is trying to establish as many top talents as they can rather quickly, while using some big names to boost the show.

Plus, Jeff is a loose cannon. Putting him into a more free environment in ECW could either tempt him away from the straight road, or make him feel more comfortable.
Whereas on SD! with Matt, he will have someone to stay close to, who can possibly make sure he doesn't stray.

How is ECW a loose environment? The old ECW was sure, but the new one is entirely a WWE brand. Staffed by WWE agents and officials, Vince is backstage at all TV tapings, and has final say over everything. ECW will thusly have no higher a level of drug abuse or other infractions I would say then the other two brands. Yes, I imagine when many of the performers took initial drug tests, they probably tested positive. But that was no doubt true of many WWE performers. Yes, the incidents with RVD and Sabu were a big early black eye the show didn't need, but come on, it's not like RVD just started that behavior.

On the subject of Matt being a good influence, he and Matt traveled together in 03 when he was drugging up. Matt was attempting to get him to shows on time, and try and get him to straighten out his act and couldn't. It would seem the only one who can keep Jeff Hardy on the straight and narrow is Jeff Hardy.

I dunno, what would you say is best for him?

I'd say what is best for now is to pair him with Matt. You make money from the nostalgia of the Hardy reunion, while figuring out if Jeff truly has cleaned up, then you begin to figure out if he's ready to be the player they wanted him to be three years ago. If he can? He needs to be sent where his talents can be best used, and I believe ECW is that place.

Either way it will be good to see hardy on tv again. I would be all for a Hardy reunion, they were always amung my favorite teams.

ECW seems a logical place for him to go, but maybe wwe will use him in singles first on SD to beat Helms for the CW title to re-establigh him.

That's good. At least no more Matt Hardy jobbing. I see a feud between the two. Also, a tag team run will be nice considering how weak the division is right now.

Michelle McCool's new tag team defeated S2H and Funaki in their debut. Scotty and Funaki really need a push in my opinion. Scotty's a former Tag Team champ and Funaki's a former Cruiserweight champ. They only ever appear to get their arses kicked. They really need some wins to get back on the scene.

Man, their finisher looks like one of the hardest moves to pull off. A catapult, combined with a dropkick to the head from the top rope. That can't possibly do that with 100% success.

William Regal vs. US Champion Finlay

Regal got the win by DQ after getting blasted in the gut with the shillaligh that Regal actually brought to the ring. Lashley then came to the ring and got hit with the shillaligh. Then Finlay helped Regal to his feet and told him to attack Lashley. When he went to do so he got smacked in the back with the shillaligh again by Finlay. Finlay then scuttled off up the ramp as Lashley hit the Dominator in on Regal. So it really wasn't a good night for poor Mr. Regal.

I don't like how they're portraying Regal as being naive, but perhaps this way they can do a thriple threat for the US title like originally planned, by keeping 3 feuds going between them.

Overall it was a good show with many interesting new talent. Also, what do you all think about that MVP guy who came in and talked to Teddy Long about his new contract? What do think of him; will he be good in the ring do you think?

Montel Vontavious Porter, apparently, and his finishing move is a spinning Capoiera kick, influenced by Tekken :D

I'll have to skip the SD reviews for right now so I can go watch the tape.

I'm looking forward to see what they do with Jeff.

Here's the deal with Hogan...

The WWE website has just posted a story where they say that Hulk Hogan called Vince McMahon, in an "urgent" phone call, and said that "there’s a possibility that Hogan has a cracked meniscus, which in turn could possibly prevent him from appearing on RAW this Monday night in Memphis, next week’s RAW in Charlottesville and even SummerSlam." According to the story, Hogan is set to have an MRI to determine the damage to the knee.

My take is that given they broke it on a Friday night, which is traditionally when stories that the companies don't want publicized release them, there is something more going on here.

I'm not completely sold on this just yet... but I'm not a Hogan fan si I don't really care if he is a part of Summerslam or not.

Also CM Punk was chosen as Joey Styles Most Extreme Player of the Week and there's also an interview with Punk in the ECW website in which he's asked who he would like to wrestle his answer.... Kurt Angle (obviously).

My prediction about this match turned out to be exactly what happened! Undertaker destroyed King Booker and then Great khali came down to the ring and interfered, attacking Taker and getting him the DQ victory. Khali chopped Taker's head and put his foot on him and did that retarded roar he does. Undertaker then sat up and clotheslined Khali out of the ring. He then challenged Khali to a Last Man Standing Match at SummerSlam. I can't wait for that. That way the rivalry between the two will finally be over and then Taker can get back into the title hunt against Batista.

Dude, did you even watch the match? Undertaker FAR from dominated. It was pretty much fifty-fifty with booker dominating from most of the start and Taker finishing strong. It actually was a really good match, filled with great wrestling.
Undertaker came off strong which is good for him. He'll end Khali as the Slam.

Not sure.. But since Smackdown is taped its easier to blur things out, I remember they used to censor Melina's entrance aswell.

Taipei Death Match: Axl Rotten vs Ian Rotten.

Two out of Three fall Light Tube Log Cabin match: "Sick" Nick Mondo vs Zandig.

100 Light Tubes death match: Abdullah Kobayashi vs Daisuke Sekimoto.

FMW Electric Pool match.

Those are the matches that I could find. The 100 Light Tubes deathmatch if the closest thing you're gonna get to a 200 Light Tubes deathmatch. I couldn't find the Lucha en Jaula Electrificada match, the Piranha Death Match, The Anus Explosion Death Match, and the Firestone Death Match.

WARNING: All the matches that I posted contain lots of blood.

I'm currently watching the Chris Sabin/Petey Williams/AJ Styles Ultimate X match on the Best of The X Division DVD. I'd like to ask you guys a question, What Wrestling DVDs do you have in your dvd collection? I currently have The Rise & Fall of ECW, TNA Best of The X Division Vol.1, and Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story.

I must apologize - I was half-way watching some of SD! last night, but I did see the highlights.

Chavo's explanation: I TOLD YA' GUYS! Told ya' that Chavo Guererro was gonna' use the excuse that Rey was running it into the ground & overusing his death. I think that that was the only time I actually agreed with JBL & disagreed with Michael Cole on their opinions of the matter. I'm also a little pissed with the fans not realizing this.

Anyway, Taker looked GREAT last night!!! Knocking Khali over the ropes and giving King Booker the heebie-geebies! Old School! And now we have a Last Man Standing match!

And I got my wish - Elijah Burke showed us what he was capable of. That finisher of his looked like it could easily give someone a concussion if something goes wrong. I don't know about any moves used by Jeff Jarret & Perry Saturn, as I don't know either or their moves. All I saw was "The Elijah Experience" (by the way, great name choice for it^_^).

Excellent cameo of Lashley coming out of nowhere. BAM! Glad he's back.

Michelle McCool's "techer's pets" - I envy those lucky bastards for having the opportunity. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ Didn't really pay attention to the actual match.

KEN-UH-DAY! WENT KEN-UH-DOWN! Batista Bombed. Thank god he finally shut him the fuck up. And now for Batista to shut the Royal Pain up, and we MIGHT have some peace & quiet for a short period.

Tatanka did alright; he got his revenge Again didn't really notice the match. As for the Brawler having to go through Vito's........................um, "submission move", I feel sorry for him......

I kinda' liked the pie-in-face thing for the Diva contestants....tee-hee. And the match with Ashley vs Krystal I didn't really pay attention to, other than JBL's complaints over Cole pointing out their wrestling ability other than their sex appeal.....

I believe I covered everything.

Because SD! airs during the "prime time" hours on free tv, and the show has drawn criticisms from parents groups and the news earlier in it's run (during the Attitude era mostly) and was then toned down. Considering Vince's pentient to still run things on that show that might get UPN in trouble, it seems they're taking absolutely no chances these days. I can't blame them there.

Not much to look at this week, but it is nice to see someone acknowledge what the fans do for them, and I think the general ECW site has some really cool features, and is destination visiting for any internet capable ECW fans (which should be most all of us...I kind of can't fathom us having any NOT net savvy fans)

I've never seen so many injuries during a year of wrestling. Hogan, Henry, Batista, others. Rey Mysterio is getting old as champion already. I find Smackdown more entertaining than Raw though. Although, the bring back of DX has brought back some excitement in Raw. I was thinking of more good fights we havn't seen yet. I'd like to see Batista vs. Untertaker for once. That be nice. Also, I want to see Sabu vs. Big Show. Paul Haymon is a dink, let them fight!

Taker did not mess up his chokeslam. Actually, he was about to tombstone Booker T when the great Khali interfered. I agree that it was a great match. Taker is still the shit of the company despite being 41 years old. :) He can even have a decent match with the likes of Khali. But too be honest, I do not see Taker putting Khali over again. There is a good chance that the feud will be over at SS. After the PPV, it will be the reunion of BOD.
