ECW was very innovative with their promo clips, as I pointed out earlier, ECW for the majority of their run only had an hour of television per week, so they had to try and cram as much on as they could and get the product over. The easy way they did that was they'd run big super shows of about 4 hours or better, then chop those shows into pieces and then run them for a few weeks till the next big show. The promo montages were innovative designs that offered something very unique to viewers.
All the matches on this disc were great selections, so I'll just try to run down what you can maybe expect from each:
The Pit Bulls vs Raven & Stevie Richards in a Two out of Three falls Dog Collar Match for the ECW Tag Team Championship. Gangta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA (09-16-1995).
If I remember this one correctly, to win a fall, BOTH members of the team had to be pinned. The match worked elimination style and featured some good work, and tons of blood and weaponry. This is your standard hardcore filled with plunder type bout, but with four of ECW's best at the top of their game.
Rey Mysterio vs Psicosis in a Two out of Three falls match. Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA (10-17-1995).
Magnificient work here. This was "extreme lucha libre" which meant you will be seeing Rey and Psichosis doing things in this initial feud you won't see them do on WWE TV today. Lot's of flashy moves, and some creative weapon use.
Mikey Whipreck vs The Sandman in a Ladder match for the ECW Heavyweight Championship. Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA (10-28-1995).
Violent, just out and out violent brawling here. Any resemblance between this and an actual wrestling match is a damn dirty shame.
2 Cold Scorpio vs Sabu for the ECW Television Championship. CyberSlam - Philadelphia, PA (02-17-1996).
Very good bout, the two worked very hard here, but I'm not sure it lives up to the expectations that such a pairing would create. Great flying and weapons use here. A very good match showcasing both men's strengths.
Tommy Dreamer vs Raven. WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA (06-06-1997).
The final blow off to the Tommy Dreamer/Raven feud. Lot's of good near falls, tons of brawling, interference and drama like no other. Culminating in one of the most emotional finishes in ECW history. "EC FUCKING W!!"
Taz vs Bam Bam Bigelow for the ECW Television Championship. Living Dangerously - Ashbury Park, NY (03-01-1998).
This match was a good fight between the two. Good wrestling, good brawling, and a finish that was replayed on ECW television for years to come...OH MY GOD!!!
Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn for the ECW Television Championship. Hardcore Heaven - Poughkeepsie, NY (05-16-1999).
The follow up to their historic bout at Living Dangerously of that year, many people wondered if Lynn and Van Dam could top it. While not as dramatic I feel, it's still one of their best, and it cemented Jerry Lynn as a worker's worker. Especially when you consider the Van Daminator he took while crotched on the top rope to the exposed concrete floor both broke his nose and fractured his skull...and that was only in the first five or ten minutes!!!! Lance Storm probably saved Jerry's life by driving him to the hospital that night.
Out of all these matches, Which ones do you guys recommend?
