Why anyone truly expected Vince to just put a product on the air that was just going to be the old ECW is beyond me. Vince has always for better or for worse wanted a ton of imput in anything he puts on the air. It's admirable but they he wants to share in the blame for any bad shows (although I think it's more about getting credit for the good one's) but my opinion has always been, why hire writers if you aren't going to let them write?
Kurt Angle is still upset that management moved him down to ECW. However, he's being professional about it and will try to make it work.
I can't believe Angle is really all that upset to be part of the new ECW considering he came from SD! which is such a lame duck show, and even with guys like Batista coming back, I tend to agree with the feeling that many other folks have that in the end WWE will probably allow the deal with CW to be renewed (thus totally freeing them from Viacom) and will then try and split the talent between RAW and ECW, and get USA or Sci-Fi to give them another hour or two of programming so they can justify the salaries of these guys. I understand if Angle feels like it makes him look like a hypocrite, but so far I think it's been a great fit for Kurt.
Of course, I'm always a bit skeptical when I read about "how guys are feeling" because a lot of times these are the most bullshit stories that get out on the net since guys are naturally stepping on their peers any way they can to get ahead (just as a for example, if you ask say Tony Mamaluke about Kurt Angle's demeanor, Mamaluke has great reason to tell the internet "oh he hates it here, he hates ECW, and he hates it's fanbase" so that Angle's main event push is sabotaged and perhaps it helps Mamaluke get over more. Again, that's just a for example, it is in no way meant to be based on reality!)
But honestly, I feel like the show had one really bad week, and one pretty good week. It's too early I think to really feel like it's a failure or a success. Not to mention this just ISN'T the old ECW, that ECW ended in 2001 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas (or maybe you could say it ended with last year's ONS show), this is a WWE production. A third brand which is drawing on the history, talent, and legacy of a very popular promotion to help get it over, but it cannot be judged against the ECW of old. It's not fair to either show.
