"Talkin TNA" by Professor avie
So here we are, our weekly extended look at TNA impact, the notes and thoughts section that nobody else brings. Cooler does a great job with reviewing, so I won't stel his thunder and recap, I'll just talk about some of my thoughts on the show if I may.
This show was all about one thing: Destination X, it was the go home show, and the best bet for TNA was to book whatever last minute matches they needed, and continue the push on the main events which were already signed.
Plusses: TNA needed to push the PPV, and they did an excellent job of that I thought. TNA gave us some great video packages with the participants for Ultimate X, they recapped the events leading to Sting's appearance, and in general put out everything they've got that's of any value or importance going into the show. They also gave us some good in ring action, and kept the focus on that for the first half hour...man, was that not a great world tag title match? AMW and The Naturals tore it up. I think special credit has to be given to the Naturals here as they haven't gotten a lot of TV time since Impact has been on Spike. Kudos to them for making the most of it (finish of the bout covered in the next section)...The X qualifier match was also just good solid wrestling. The undercarders of the X Division in Shelley, Sabin, and Dutt continue to shine. I was also happy Sabin got the win in this match, as he's one of the more talented X Division performers who has seemed to continuously hit that glass ceriling that's been created by Styles, Joe, and Daniels, lately...Nice to see Jeff Jarrett not dominating the whole show for a week...the main event was a pretty wild bout, and got a lot of body's some TV time, and promoted the big 8 man tommorow.
Minuses: Ugh. I am getting so fucking sick of all these screw job finishes in AMW, and "Coalition" (that's what I'm calling Jarrett's gang at present) matches. For fuck's sake, whatever happened to heels who could win a match based on skill and not screwy finishes? I know fans are smarter now, but all these run-ins and cheating is just cheapening AMW and their title run to me...speaking of which, isn't it about time AMW dropped those belts to someone else? While I like the duo, I think it's time TNA featured some other teams, or fulfilled the destiny of the Dudleys to finally pick up those belts...While I can appreciate the old school nature of the Monty Brown/Christian Cage segment, it just didn't do much of anything for me. I think Brown carried it well, but I think Christian Cage sounded lost and it almost seems like their going to make the mistake of playing Christian Cage the way they played Ricky Steamboat in the NWA. Where he's supposed to be too much of a white bread babyface, and that is not going to get over with the crowd. I think this segment made the champ look weak, and considering TNA seems to want to build Christian up as a great star they got from the company that didn't understand him, and will help lead them, they need to keep him out of situations like this.
