THIS IS A POTENTIAL SPOILER!!!!

WWE is advertising a Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry WWE Title match, with Steve Williams as the special ref, for the MARCH 12th house show in Lafayette, LA. Rey Mysterio will take on JBL in a best 2 out of 3 falls match. That would make it appear that WWE is going to go forward with having Orton beat Rey for the Mania main event this Sunday, which has been rumored around this thread.

But it's true, they did fuck pigs. That's why they were also known as "The Deliverance Channel", and a host of others. One of the funniest moments in ECW history was the night after they were finally cancelled off the network and Joey Styles and Paul E. go back and forth on Hardcore TV about TNN's new slogan "We got pop!" (remember those days?) and how it was better then the old slogan "we fuck pigs!" but they keep getting bleeped and just go into a whole discussion about how you can't say "we fuck pigs!" on MSG, but you can say it on TNN because it's true.

They did huh? well it makes it all the funnier then. Those poor pigs... lol

Out of all the matches on the ECW DVD which would you say are your favorites?

teh cool thing about it is that it's volume 1. that usually means there is a second one on the way. Though with our luck it won't be out for a year. Though if sales for this dvd are good they may speed up production.

Another match has been added to the card at No Way Out MNM vs Matt Hardy and a mystery partner..(It won't happen but wouldn't be cool if it were Jeff?). And I have a question is anyone here a fan of CM Punk?

I've heard about CM but I really don't know enough to be a fan of his.

Know what I just realized about that dvd? There are no Raven matches on it! You can say I favor Raven all you want but when you think of the brand ECW whuch wrestlers come to mind out of instinct? For me that would be Tazz, Raven, Dreamer, Sandman, Cactus and the Dudleyz. You just can't have an ECW best of dvd without him. Hopefully he will be featured on vol. 2

Here is a thought. If wwe ever re-hired Raven do you think they could book him right? I honestly belive that he was one of those guys wwe dropped the ball with. He's become NWA champion since his release and still has a cult like following. (Just ask Avie) He could easily be a top contender on Raw. Course the chances of this are unlikely.

I am a huge Raven fan and I think he'd bring a new dimension to Raw. He sometimes uses the old school wrestling style ala JBL. But he also is much better on the mic than almost anyone. I would love to see him used properly in the WWE. I don't think he's the kidn of guy that they would put at the top but it would even be nice to see him win an undercard title.

Response to The Wrestling (WWE) Club 2006-02-15 13:07:47

I don't know Raven has been getting out of shape he seems to be on the JBL diet and I think he's still under contract with TNA.

I just got the ECW DVD (Yay!) But I can't watch it yet because I have to go out and get my car serviced (Boo)

Hey Avie, you missed a match on the first disk:

3-way Dance #1 Contender's Match for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship
Barely Legal 4/13/97
Terry Funk vs. Sandman vs. Stevie Richards

what were your thoughts about that match? Guess you kinda forgot about it in your review.

Redface, you mentioned in a previous post that you miss the good old days when two guy clobbered each other and said it was only 20 years ago but you are the youngest in this club. How does that work? Do you enjoy watching older matches or have you just heard the stories? I ask because you mentioned that you are the youngest around here.

Anyway, I picked up the ECW dvd today myself and haven't watched much of it yet. I will give some feedback on it once i do.

Response to The Wrestling (WWE) Club 2006-02-15 23:34:32

I stand corrected. Raven does appear in this dvd set, but I'm not going to tell where and how so as not to spoil anything.

I just got finished watching the first disk.. holy crap! This dvd is definatly worth getting and I'm only on disk 1! So far my favorite matches on it are the Rey/Psycosis match, RVD/Sabu and the Funk/Sandman/Richards match. Awesome stuff!

Wow, this is true. I can't believe this. For some reason, I think Booker T is going to be a part of Randy Orton winning, after all, Booker T said he oh'd Randy something in the future.

Yes, Joel Gertner's promo against the Network was also good.

Out of all the matches on the ECW DVD which would you say are your favorites?

The Mexican death match is good, as is the Stretcher Match. Really I don't think there's a truly bad match on the DVD I feel. They're all bouts I pretty much enjoyed in other releases, or when I watched them when they originally aired.

teh cool thing about it is that it's volume 1. that usually means there is a second one on the way. Though with our luck it won't be out for a year. Though if sales for this dvd are good they may speed up production.

There is a volume 2 coming, WWE realizes that the ECW library is one of their great assets, and that fan base is still around and will pay to get their hands on that footage.

Yeah I did, sorry about that. I also didn't list the special "bonus" bout that comes after it because that would spoil the result of this three way. I think it was an intense match where everyone worked hard, and a rare bout where you had a situation where everyone had something to prove, or revenge to get against the heavyweight champion Raven.

Raven is a character that has never been used as well as he was in ECW, he's perhaps the most unique character in wrestling history (we could certainly debate this point for awhile). Scott Levy is an interesting man, and I am always fascinated to hear him speak, he translates that very well into the Raven persona. I think that's why the fans take to him. Vince proved he dosen't seem to know what to do with this character, or maybe it's more apt to say that creative dosen't know what to do with this character, but TNA has shown a willingness to use the character correctly.

I like RO too along with The Undertaker, they are my favorate wrestlers. But I will not be smiling until RO beats Rey at NWO. Vince can screw up in any second before the PPV and have Rey winning because of the lame Eddie storyline. So let's still wait and see what happens on Sunday.

Wouldn't it have been easier for the WWE to just let Orton win the Rumble outright. Why let Misterio win if you're gonna take his title shot just a month later?

The only thing I can think of is to exploit Eddie's death. And to piss on his friends and family.

Response to The Wrestling (WWE) Club 2006-02-16 11:21:11

I think wwe wanted to make sure that Orton was a good enough heel so that they had a good heel vs face match at mania, rather than a face vs face (Though they could have easily turned Kurt heel and solved this problem)

Thing is due to them exploiting Eddie's death I'm not thrilled about the whole situation. If they wanted Orton to challenge rey thats fine, but leave something like that out of it.

well I'm off to go watch disk 2. yay!

I understand that the WWE has been trying to make up for the short title run Orton had a while back but at the expense of Misterio? That's not cool.

I honestly hope that they let Eddie rest after this No Way Out match. I really cannot understand how the Guerrero family can let this happen. Perhaps Vince handed them a hefty check. Money can cure all wounds and "Everybody's got a price."- Ted Dibiase.

Here's your boy Carlito back in the day before he was so "cool".

Because Vince believes the Eddie story gave Rey a feel good win I suppose (and it did in a way, but I think most people were happy with Rey's win because Rey is a great competitor who works hard no matter who he's facing, and never phones it in, and genuinely loves the business, and us fans). I believe he then figured it makes Orton a better candidate for top heel if he beats Rey, and besmirches Eddie's name (which I don't think it does, Orton could be a top heel without all this, and was well on his way to that position before Vince and the "H Effect" screwed his push all the way up). I also agree the storyline is lame, and just generates the wrong kind of heat for Orton. I'm sure Vince figures that since he's done a good amount to help Eddie's family, and he deserves praise for that, and the fact that he'll put Eddie in the hall of fame this year, he can use his name however he chooses. I disagree, Eddie was a human being, and it's the human being that died, not the character of "Latino Heat".

Dave Meltzer (WrestlingObserver.com) is reporting that Mike "Johnny Grunge" Durham of the popular Public Enemy tag team was pronounced dead on arrival earlier this morning at an Atlanta area hospital.

The only details available at this time are that he was at a friend's house in Peachtree City, GA and was reportedly gasping for air and then rushed to the hospital. The early word based on the preliminary diagnosis from the Atlanta hospital was that his passing was said to have had to do with complications from sleep apnea.

Grunge was one half of the Public Enemy tag team with Rocco Rock, aka Teddy Petty, who passed away in September of 2002 following a massive heart attack. Grunge was said to have never been the same since his passing. Public Enemy were first created in ECW and became subject to a bidding war between both WCW and WWF. The tag team was never successful in either WCW or WWF after they had left ECW.

Grunge is believed to have been 39 years old. We would like to send out our condolences to the family and friends of Mike Durham during his hard time.

Just wanted to point out quickly since the information listed as obit so far has been so sparse. Durham and Petty in their character roles as Johnny Grunge and Flyboy Rocco Rock, the Public Enemy, they held the ECW tag team championship four times (making them the second winningest team in ECW history behind the Dudley Boyz). PE were a HUGE attraction for ECW prior to the PPV era, and many shows sold out simply because they were the featured attractions. Whether heel or face, the Public Enemy were considered headlining attractions while with the promotion. In fact, the spot where the ring collapsed under the weight of all the fans in it dancing was featured in the recent WWE ECW documentary, and they are the men buried under all those chairs in that legendary Funk/Cactus spot of all the chairs being thrown into the ring. They were one of the last true tag teams, and Johnny worked with the many Hardcore Homecoming events of last year, honoring the memory of his partner, after scaling back almost all other indie commitments.

Hopefully the boys are reunited in Heaven now, and they know that they're fans left behind here on Earth are grieving their loss, but we're also remembering the joy, they gave us.
